programme cover for Chelsea v Grimsby Town, Saturday, 11th Oct 1980 Saturday, 11th Oct 1980 and a 3-0 win over Grimsby Town watched by 16,206.

Our scorers were: Colin Lee 31st and 53rd mins and Clive Walker 38th min.

I thought we'd be promoted this season after we so narrowly missed out at the last gasp in May 1980.

Sadly, it was not to be for a couple more seasons.

“Sing when your fishing...you only sing when your fishing...”

Barnsley it was “ Sing when your mining”

What other versions were there....

Ps Classic story about Grimsby taking a rubber dingy to games during the inflatable craze. I miss those days when football was just a big laugh

Colin Pates?

I think that’s before Pates time mate ( he was rumoured to have a NF tattoo BTW)

I was thinking more of a bit part player like David Stride or Micky Nutton?

Edit: Stand corrected. Pates was playing in ‘80. Could well be

Colin Pates made 281 appearances for Chelsea between 1979 and 1988. It looks a bit Like him.

I've been trying to Google who that game was against and get the team sheet. The only team playing with any hint of orange in their away kit would have been QPR but I don't thinks that's right. Pates played in the Grimsby game.

I'll stick with Pates unless somebody can enlighten me.

I've just got back from the pub I might have this programme so I'll have a look over the weekend. I'm with you I think it's Nutton or Stride it's definitely not Patesy.
