The old Den had a waste ground hill built on top of what used to be New X Dog Track which allowed a free view of the game “ Jews Hill” it was known as until they stuck up a big advertising hoarding. Went to Withdean Stadium to watch Brighton v Leeds. Couldn’t believe how many people were watching the game perched on the top of trees- it was woodland behind one of the sides. Strong breeze and they’d have another Hillsboro on their hands Edited April 25, 20206 yr by Ewell CFC

Remember the shop near Broadway, was long inside with everything behind the counter. I was told when I was a kid that it had nothing to do with the club and was an independent shop.

That stretch of road at the back is Bishopsford Road, and pretty much where three towns, Carshalton, Mitcham and Morden met, I had a girlfriend who lived in the house behind Dario Gradi's head and first asked my mrs out while walking along that stretch sometime early in 1980. To the right were two shops, a furniture store and an off licence a well as the 118 bus stop going towards Mitcham and Streatham, and opposite that for the bus to Morden tube that I used to catch every morning when I first started work, just a bit further to the right was the Blue Star garage, the only place around to buy ciggies on a Sunday evening back then. It's almost 40 years since I moved away, but that neck of the woods will always be home to me.
