£5 milliion. Are they having a laugh or what?

Methinks this be bollocks:

Malouda heading to Juventus as Chelsea prepare to accept knockdown £5m deal

Chelsea are considering offloading Florent Malouda to Juventus in a cut-price £5million deal.

The French winger could be sold in a knockdown move to help balance the books ahead of the arrival of Porto right-back Alvaro Pereira.

Malouda, who scored the winner in Saturday's 2-1 victory over West Bromwich Albion, was widely regarded as a key part of the Blues' squad.

However, new boss Andres Villas-Boas is ready to sell him to Juventus as he attempts to freshen up his options ahead of next Wednesday's transfer deadline.

The Italian side have previously attempted to land Malouda but this time they are confident of wrapping up a deal. They also believe they can lure Brazilian centre-back Alex away from Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea have made an opening bid of £15m for Pereira as they look to finalise the signing of Juan Mata.

Sportsmail revealed Chelsea's interest in the Uruguay international wing back Pereira but his buy-out clause is £25m.

Villas-Boas has gone back to his old club for the hardworking and versatile left-sided star and may offer a player as part of any deal for Pereira.

How much do you really think he is worth? I dont think he is worth more than 8 million any more. How much did we buy Yossi for? I would put him around the same price as that.

£5m for the player who was statistically the best in the Premier League last season?

With this level of farce, it must have something to do with... oh look... the Mail.

0/10 wouldn't read again

If we were looking to offload players then I don't think Malouda would be top of the list. Ok he can be frustrating at times, but so can any number of players. Malouda is the kind of player who tends to be undervalued by many and is all too often used as a scapegoat. Remember the "Malouda refuses to pass to Torres" bollocks?

How much is he worth? At his age I'd say around £10 - £12 million, maybe a little more depending on whether it's a buyers or a sellers market.

Stats can be twisted which ever way you want. He failed to step up at all last season and he is one of the oldies in the squad, i say if someone is willing to take him off our hands and payroll then sell him while we can. I agree he wouldnt be top of the list who should be shown the door but i dont think we are getting many serious offers for the likes of Anelka and Kalou.

He was a definite part of the revival last season. If we must trim the wage bill, okay, maybe, but if we are just looking to shorten the squad there are much better ways of going about it.

Agree with you"U no it makes sense"...Whilst he may have been the clubs top scorer, he didnt really ever perform against the bigger teams and as you can see below all his goals last year game against teams who finished in the bottom half of the league. Also other than scoring the decisive goals in three games against bolton, wigan and birmingham, we would have still won all of the other games had his goals been erased.

Goals:

2 against WBA 6v0

1 against Wigan 6v0

2 against stoke 2v0

2 against blackpool 4v0

2 against wolves 2v0

1 against bolton 1v0

1 against bolton 4v0

1 against wigan 1v0

2 against birmingham 3v1

1 against west ham 3v0

For me, the fact that he was our top scorer shows how poor the rest of our forwards were last year.

Whilst i consider 5-8 million for a 31/32 yr old with just 2 years left on his contract a fair price, if it was my choice I would certainly keep him over kalou and nico,

A second or 3rd goal is as decisive as the first goal in a game. 1-0 up and scoring to make it 2 massively important.

sums up quite nicely what i think about him, when push comes to shove hes nowhere to be seen. i dont think hes an important player and would gladly see him at another club

So we wouldve been 5 wins and 10 points poorer without him scoring last season.

Frankly, I dont think its fair to judge him on the opposition for last season. The entire team came up short in virtually all of our big games last year. Liverpool, the Mancs three times, Arsenal in January.

But I am starting to see the logic in that being good money, and saving the club his wages, for someone past 30.

It would be insane to let Malouda go this season, for one what if Mata gets injured?

Kalou would be first on my list, followed by Beneyoun ( providing Modric arrives )

I'm worried this might happen, I think we're getting a bit desperate to offload a few players to incorporate our new signings, and if there's interest I can see him going..

My Daily Mail logic from the Pereira thread has now appeared in the Daily Mail.

It's Pereira for Malouda. That's AVB's masterplan. The genius boy would be making a mistake if he thinks that's smart business. Never mind the wages Malouda despite his ups and downs has been one of the best 3 at the club over the past two years. We'd be cutting off our nose to spite our face.

This is a league like no other, you don't go selling Premier League veterans for left back occasional left wingers from Portugal. It doesn't work.

First of all, Im all for letting him go, but then i dont rate him, he does chime in with a fair ammount of goals but some times i think we could have a fair few more as a team if he would just look up or play for the team, he is a preditor in the box no dowbt but as a winger ive not been impressed.

Slows down play, rarly puts a cross in and is always in field leaving us with no option to spread the play.

Ok but take my opinion out of this for a second,

I cant help but feel that those who want him to stay might also want us to be giving youth a chance, I think these is one of those situations where you cant have it both ways. even if malouda is now mostly back up, isnt that taking a place on the bench that a prommesing young winger could have. As fans we seem to be stuck in two minds, we want to see our kids do well but we are petrified to move the older players on. For me its worth accelarating the progress of a young player at the cost of squeezing one more year out of one of the older ones.

It's ironic that Malouda was on most people's to 'go list' in other thread, but when the rumour comes along, plenty of people want to keep him. Sure 5M is not much, but we will cut a big chunk out of the wage, same reason we let Cole go last year. He's no spring chicken anymore, how many good years can we get out of him, 1, 2 years? With the signing of Mata and potential signing of the Porto guy, we got him covered. Everyone wants us to play youngsters, how are they going to get a chance if we have 2-3 players for every position?

In addition, when Anelka was withdrawn from the starting lineup of the Champions League team he was one of the top scorers with seven goals to his credit. It was really unfortunate that who he was dropped for did not produce anything of note neither was the one who dropped him justified in making such a decision. Anelka has been the fall guy/scapegoat on too many occasions when persons find it difficult to understand his personality.
