I hated him at first for that and now it's funny. He won the biggest trophy but his desire to be the centre of attention made the trophy lift look absolutely horrible. Not just because it was him but because of how he was underneath it tipping it over. Really it should've been one man to lift it. Lamps being captain.

The issue was the planning around the trophy lift. Nornmally you get a stand on the pitch, everyone comes through gets their medal, then captain last gets the trophy. They had everyone pile into a big line in the stands trying to get past each other. It was stupid.

Yea it is a shame there isn’t a good pic of the trophy lift itself thanks to him, all the clean/good images are ‘on-pitch’. UEFA really got their sh*t together when they changed it to on-pitch, and as we saw in the same stadium, PSG were able to lift it in organised fashion. As we did in 2021.

The positive from that night (aside from winning of course) is that Munich stadium staff were so pissed, they tossed protocol and let all the photographers on the pitch at once, made for really chaotic scenes which matched the mood, making it look even more iconic, chasing Didier around. Whereas, keeping them off gives a bit of a sanitised feel.

Cech, Lampard, Cole, Drogba, you can see the focus in their faces. They knew this was the last chance.

It's similar to the tunnel when we beat City. Our lot was all lined up, focused, looking straight ahead. City were disorganised and looked nervous.

That Munich defence wouldn't have given the Munich forwards much confidence. The best teams are built from the back, well the teams that win.

That really wasn't the case, that Munich side was really good, they made 4 changes to the squad and they became treble winners

I'd argue that 2011/12 CL was one of the strongest CL. You have prime Messi, Xavi, Iniesta Ronaldo, Aguero, Cavani, in-form Van Persie, up and comers like Hazard and Lewandowski

Tymoshuk was out the following year and the left-back and Gomez, never to return to Bayern. Who won the WC for France in 1998? Thuram, Blanc, Bartez, Dessailly and Lizurazu or Guivarc'h, Djorkaeff, Karembeu, Zidane and Dugarry?

All of them did, it's a team game. That's my point. The 2012/2013 Munich team added 1CB, 1LB, 1DM and 1CF. That's a whole spine change

I don't know how you can casually ignore my entire point of it being a team game. Hence the best team won. That Munich team is still one of the strongest iteration they had, I added the bit about the 2012/13 to show that to make that team even better they had to replace the spine, that's how good it was and how great our players were to beat them while they were near their best

I'm not dismissing what you wrote. I'm not sure if an average side has ever reached the CL Final, probably not.
