Take off your blue tinted glasses(or blonde in this occasion)guys and admit that Torres never is/was/will be the player we paid for.

Just out of interest- who are you talking to?

I don't think you need to convince anyone of that statement, it is pretty obvious by this point.

Well it was pretty obvious last season as well, yet he somehow ended up Player of the Season it seems, and if I could see results in the polls this year(haven't voted too many times personally), I'd bet that he has the most votes and MOTM awards thus far this season(on course for player of the Season again :laugh2: ). People convinced themselves that selling Drogba and letting Torres be the main man will somehow miraculously turn him into the player we watched 3 years ago at Liverpool.

I am pointing to the guys who still think Torres will deliver. I am saying this pretty much since the QPR game but almost nobody really agreed with me.

That is a reflection of the tournament more than it is my support of the club. I can quite happily watch teams that aren't my own in the champions league but whenever I have tuned in to watch Europa league games they have been tedious to watch bar seeing Utd knocked out by Bilbao last season.

And the point I was making about mata was that he doesn't get analysed week in week out like Torres does. He obviously deserved his honours last season as he does this one, but in terms of his 'everything that Mata's' topic I don't see people posting in their every time he plays well or plays badly

Each to their own, I always used to love the Cup Winners cup back in the 90's but obviously we have become used to the Champions League so naturally it there is less of a buzz about it. I know I will still watch it though, I would watch us play anyone though to be fair.

I agree with your second paragraph about Mata although I thought that was the point I was trying to make to you in reply to the fact that Mata doesn't get praised week in/week out when he has a decent game- the fact is nobody is under the spotlight quite as much as Torres and this applies when he is good and when he is bad.

I am not sure who these people are that apparently still think Torres will deliver (his Liverpool standard of form that is)?

I presume the same people that apparently flood the forum in their hundreds after any game he does ok in declaring he is 'back' ?

Yep, exactly these guys, how i can't stand them.

If Torres plays well tonight, I will say so, I won't be saying he's back and the best striker in the World, and nor will anybody else that backs our players!

The only people that will go over the top are the haters, who will criticise him no matter what he does!

Simillarly if (for e.g) Paulo was to play tonight & played well I would praise him, it wouldn't mean I thought he was back to the player he was 5/6 years ago!

To be fair I think everybody realises he isn't going to be the player he was at Liverpool, it just depends on how he adapts, like him or not Rafa has a style that has Torres getting chances and once he adapts to this style he'll get us a fair few goals. he has 5 in 4 right now but of course, we need to see how he does against the Mancs and other big games.

Rafa also has a style that has us dropping points against awful teams. That Torres might score a few goals here and there against awful competition doesn't absolve him. You say that we need to see how he adapts. I disagree. We've seen enough. Scoring against the likes of Sunderland, Nordsjaelland and Monterrey is the bare minimum that anybody with a pulse should be able to accomplish. If Torres is still leading our line the next time we play the Mancs, there's a giant f**king problem.

I'm not going to get into the Rafa situation, all I said is Torres seems to be doing well in this new system and it will be interesting to see if he can start performing in big games.

The interim manager has a style? And there was me thinking he was just a big fat clueless twat.

Against a Danish team, a Mexican team and Sunderland. Wow. Impressive.

Which is why I said we'll see how he does against big teams, he can only play against what's put in front of him.

And so far this season he hasn't done it. Your acting like he's not had chances. He's been here 2 years. He's had like 4 managers, a host of players around him, different styles and still not shown it. I have honestly lost faith in him now. He doesn't show for the big games..

You're entitled to your opinion but from what I've seen so far since Rafa has taken over he looks sharper and more willing to shoot. As I said, he'll never get back to as good as he was at Liverpool but I reckon he could get us a good few goals under this new style of play.

I would'nt be surprised 1 bit if he scores tonight...due to the fact its gonna be a lower standard of defence in front of him again....but then again
