That's effectively what I meant when I put 'Torres is back'. It's not us that say it, but the media most certainly will.

Great minds and all that.

I think I can finally put an end to the confusion though. It's not "Torres is back" but "Torres's back".  And by way of illustration, here we have an image of ... Torres's back:

Dedicated to all those who say they can't wait to see the back of Fernando Torres.

I think Torres has done really well not to get injured the whole time he's been here. As i recall he was never off the treatment table at Liverpool, mainly with hamstring problems.

Honestly that list shows the lack of talent in the PL outside of the top 4 clubs!

Being centre forward for Chelsea is a lot different to being centre forward for Villa or Newcastle!

Not sure I'd fall over myself for any of the others.

Agreed that it's different, but all of those CFs have shown better movement and touch than him this season. On that list, hands down/no question I'd take: City & Utd's forwards, Adebayor, Long/Odemwingie, Suarez, Berbatov, Ba/Cisse, Benteke, Michu, Fletcher, Giroud/Podolski.

Interested to see how many of those you agree with.

f* you Torres, costing us another game! I'm sure that's what said in the majority  last 100 posts here.

Of course he's leggy and not looking sharpe, he plays just about 90 minutes every 3 days. Swapping Morrison or Cole or Torres? Players like that shouldn't even be sitting on the bench for our reserve team.

Not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing at this point....

Poor in the first half, I missed most the 2nd half so I can't judge him on that but he got a goal so that alone means he did more than in the 1st half.

Giroud is a donkey, one of the few strikers I wouldn't swap Torres for.

Played poorly the whole match aside from the header and the actual goal. I was pretty frustrated watching him but I did come to the realization that he has played in nearly every match this season. He has got to be exhausted. We absolutely need to give him some rest.

If it was anyone else then people would be crying out for him to be rested but since it's torres they will just brush it off as an excuse! He did look very leggy tonight and should of been the first to be subbed off once the game was over.

The problem is, who do we play there? This should have been resolved in the summer by signing a legitimate back-up or by actually giving Sturridge a shot. We cannot expect him to play every game...if he isn't scoring at top fitness levels then the odds are only going to go down as he is fatigued!

Sturridge keeps getting injured every time he steps onto the pitch so he isn't a viable option. Definitely need a back up in january.

Another shocker tonight. Again he found the areas of the pitch that seemed to be covered in tar. His ball retention and touch was as poor as I've seen it these past 2 years.

It was like playing with 10 men for 70 mins and then he perked up (a little). He plays like a man who has no enthusiasm for the game whatsoever.

Honestly a half decent striker would make this team a completely different proposition.

Sturridge is said to have declared himself fit but again was ignored, I said in the other thread that Interim could end up with this squad and the addition of Falcao...how unjust is that?

It was the game where you bring the fringe players in and we played almost a full strength team, even Leeds had the second string Keeper in the nets and we

even second half when cruising left the youngsters on the bench and brought on Paulo (dont get me wrong I love Paulo).

I don't think there can be anybody anywhere that can understand why Robbie wasn't at least given till the end of the season, I couldn't even properly enjoy drubbing Leeds...I've got Interimitis and its a bad bad dose.

And the only cure for it is amputation!

And the only cure for it is amputation!

I've tried all the usual remedies...Paracetamol, Ibuprofen and the like but lately I find a mixture of alcohol and any type of opiate is the only way I can watch a game without constantly picturing him stretching one of our Tracksuits.

I've tried Hypnotherapy, Hydrotherapy and Physiotherapy'

Anger management, Pain management, hard drugs soft drugs and soft porn but still his image appears like an apparition.

I need help, I need a reaction from the only man that can save me, the only man whos patella can whip in a sharp enough motion to oust this fraud and bring me back to the modicum of sanity I used to feel was almost normal.

Help me mr Abramovic....I'll be ever ever so grateful.

I'm not sure why he played the full 90 tonight if he's so tired.

Perhaps our manager was worried we might collapse without him.

I see people on here are questioning if he's good enough for a top 10 side.

It's the wrong question.

The question is, if he were playing for Leeds, would any League One side be interested in taking him off them on loan?

I'll leave you to make up your minds.

Taking out Utd & City players, probably only Ba, Berbatov & Saurez!

Really? (this next sentence sounds like I'm realllly bashing Torres but I'm not) What do you see in Torres that beats Adebayor/Benteke, who hold the ball up, have an aerial presence and are decent at keeping the ball? Or Fletcher who was finishing every single chance that fell to him at the start of the season, or Michu who is more of an aerial threat and has been finishing like a monster?

Each to their own I guess - I'm not in the "I've always hated Torres" camp, I still want him to score and do well, I just gave up hope at some point in October. I genuinely had a think about other strikers today and I can honestly say that I'd take almost any first choice PL striker over him at the moment.

Lets look at the statistics while Torres was at Liverpool by season:

2007-2008    33 goals

2008-2009    17 goals

2009-2010    22 goals

2010-2011    9 goals

Chelsea have basically bought a player whose goal scoring ability has shown a trend of declining.

There should not really be any surprise that he is not scoring goals.

If any of us were to buy a striker for our club, i'm guessing the first thing you would check is his ability to score goals?

Maybe i'm missing something here but I don't think this is rocket science...

^ He is actually scoring goals, but not when it matters, and not in the games that matter. Torres is in double figures this season, but that doesn't tell the whole story, especially considering the talent we now possess, which is frightening. A top striker would make all the difference. Even at his ripe old age, I don't think we'd be out of the CL and would have spurned 3 opportunities to win trophies already had Drogba been here, do you?

His performance was typified by a moment in around the 41 min mark when Lampard took a shot and their keeper parried it to his right. Torres was around the edge of the box and had ample time to get to the ball either before or at the same time as the defender that cleared it. Instead of busting a gut to get there and trying to make some kind of goal scoring chance, Torres was slowly walking AWAY from the ball while looking back at it. It was unbelievable. I had to rewind and re-watch it to make sure I wasn't seeing things.

I'm far from a Torres basher, but if he's not gonna try and make something from a parry from a keeper there isn't much hope for the guy is there?
