I am certain young Fernando will make a steadfast New Year's Resolution over a glass of Dom Perignon 64  to start scoring a lot more and everything will work out just swimmingly and the FSW will go on to win the prem, UEFA & FA cups

I honestly think Ash is saying to Dorris in this picture ......." Its  always best to shave between your eyebrow, otherwise you end up looking like Bosingwa................ & you know where he ended up!.

Lamps gives a knowing stare.

How long until we hear from the Torres apologists that the rumours of Falcao are undoubtedly ruining his psyche

Where are all these Torres apologists that exist in your and others minds, their maybe 1 or 2 people who are in love with Torres regardless, but it feels to a few of us that people hate for him has gone over the top!

Lets get this straight for the benefit of everyone who reads this thread!

Torres is not a girl who puts no effort in, neither does he whinge at every given chance if things don't go his way!

He was bought by an owner for a hugely inflated price and asked to play in a style that has never been his, he has tried, and Failed, to adapt to that style, but how is that his fault? It just means that he should never have been bought in the first place!

I think even those that support the fact that he has tried have all conceded that it would be better for both parties if we now parted company, that does not mean we have to resort to petty name calling and abusing him as a person.

To go back to your post, I would eat my hat if we signed Falcao in January, so I doubt that Torres is overly worried about that, and as an intelligent person and player I'm sure he realises that we need other striking options anyway, so that he can rest in some games.

Where are the Torres apologist??  Mate, there's 153 pages of them dispersed throughout this thread alone, let along Match threads and the Rumours threads.  I'll admit that my dig was a little tongue in cheek but there certainly are a lot of people who feel Torres can do no wrong.  That a couple of goals against "lesser" opposition and "He's back!"  But other than the breakaway goal against Barca (Cue G Neville orgasm noises) It always seems he's scoring against these lesser opponents.

Sure, he came with a stupidly inflated price over his head that he had nothing to do with, and in some ways I think people feel that affords him some liberties and to others he'll never live up to that tag.  But when he finally shows some promise, it's all over the boards athat "He's back to Liverpool form!"  What Liverpool form are we taking about, his last year, yes?  When he was fresh from Athletico, not a chance.

Again, I am not saying any of this in the past, I am merely pointing out that there are people who are very boisterous when it comes to him being back, and then the excuses come out when he's not.  We have some AMAZING talent in the team behind him, and yet people still claim he's not getting the service.  That's unreal!  To me, Torres needs to be told "You're still a great finisher, but you can't dribble that well, and you've lost a bit of pace

; therefore, stay in the area, don't go out wide, and bang em home!"

The amount of support he's had since he got here from the fans has been terrific.  I can't help but feel he's going to be a divisive figure the entire time he's here, but there are certainly a LOT of people that stick up for him even when he's not that good.  Those are the Torres apologists I am talking about.  At no point did I mention that he whinges or doesn't try, just that there are people who'll never think he can do anything wrong, or right for that matter.

Also, if we do sign in another striker (and if we do now, why didn't we in the summer???) to "give Torres a rest," then that's giving these apologists the excuse that "he needs games" should he continue to mis-fire.

In all honesty, I think there's been far more complaining about Torres apologists than there have actually been posts by Torres apologists, especially of late. The arrival of the interim manager appears to have increased the level of anti-Torres feeling to the extent where a statement regarded as not adequately anti-Torres is deemed as apologistic. This is tied up with what I was saying earlier in this thread about a lack of perspective regarding Torres.

I'm not condemning anyone here. With everything that's gone on lately, with feelings running so high, it's perfectly understandable that people would connect Torres to the presence of the interim manager, and equally understandable that they'd be keen to see the back of the pair of them.

I don't hate the bloke, but with all due respect he's a bit of a burden. Even if we signed Falcao, Torres would probably still play. That's part of the problem with having an owner with so much pride, he can't admit and move on from a mistake with ease.

How is that his fault? He can hardly turn around & say no I'm not playing if he has been picked.

When was the last time anyone actually posted on this forum that "Torres was back"? People reference this all the time as if whenever he scores a goal against a weak team people are in here banging on about how he is 'back to his best' but it doesn't actually happen. People may comment he has improved or had a good game but that isn't really the same thing as declaring he is "back".

I said give credit when credit is due.

Credit would be due when he has played well, the same for any other player, it is not rocket science.

An analogy with your job is rather stupid as you are not a proffesional footballer so we are comparing apples with pears but if you insist on nit-picking then I will play along:

Yes, you would be given credit for doing your job if, for example, a group of people were reviewing your capability after you were assigned a task and subsequently completed it well.

In this case, overall, Torres has not done his job well as most (myself included) would happily admit, my point was that I will give credit when credit is due, i.e. on the rare occasions he plays well, you on the other hand will not.

I can't believe I actually had to just explain that in minute detail for you.

I know what you were getting at but if we have to praise him every time he has a good game then that is a joke. I don't see mata getting credit every time he plays well because he is so consistent. Just because Torres, and this is my opinion, has one good game in ten then we should praise him for that. He will get credit where credit is due but he has to earn that with consistency, having one good game or scoring a couple of flukey goals against poor opposition is not deserving of credit

If mata (or any other player) has a good game, then he gets credit....have you never read a match thread or man of the match threads?

On the flip side, Whenever and however Mata plays, he doesnt get the mindless abuse on here from a select few that Torres gets.  I also want Torres replaced, but it is all a bit pointless just  bashing for the sake of it. Comments such as ladyboy, girly, Drogba should have kicked the sh*t out of him, etc...it is just mindless bashing, and not something that any other player (mata or anyone else) is subject to.

You're right.

But you're only right.

Perhaps we should start calling him Jonah instead.

I don't really see how analysing his performances honestly is a joke- it is just a normal and fair way of evaluating a players contribution on a game by game basis- something I would extend to any player that plays for us. As I have said a thousand times people are not delaring he is 'back' purely reviewing his perfromances as they see them. I find it more of a joke that regardless of how he has performed you will get some people who refuse to admit he has played well (albeit if this is a rare occurance usually against lesser opposition) and instead just verbally abuse him and try and mock those who give praise declaring they will 'crawl back under a rock' or 'call for his head' when the goals dry up. Each to their own though eh.

With regards to Mata I don't really know how you can say he doens't get praise, just go into any match thread and they are full of praise. The main difference that you have missed is that there is not a thread dedicated to Mata that evaluates his each and every move to the degree that there is for Torres.

Come on Doris made every one laugh a little bit. Made me chuckle.

The only thing Torres is guilty of is not being very good. I actually don't think he's good enough for any one in the top ten. But he didn't set the price, he doesn't continuously pick him self. Thats some one else's kook out. His performances continue to warrent critasisem but lets be honest We have a bigger fatter uglier problem to worry about..

Actually there is the difference is it doesn't get posted in every time he has a good/bad game because the latter is the rarity. I guess we each have our own way of supporting our players but for me with the amount the club paid, the amount of wages he is on, the amount of support he has got from the fans and the fact that the board granted his wish to be the main man, for me one good game does not deserve plaudits. If he went on a run of good games (never going to happen in Chelsea blue) then I would give him credit an admit I was wrong.

The thing is, is that you have decided you hate Torres and will now no longer review his performances without bias and instead just verbally insult him and mock others who review his performances honestly, regardless of how he plays. That is your choice but it doesn't make great reading.

I am pretty sure we have a very different idea of what is classed as decent support, as was apparent by your own admission that you would only bother tuning in for the final of the Europa League should we get that far, and not bore yourself with any of the games leading up to the final. Everyone is different though I guess....

Wonder if he is on course to win player of the season 2012 / 2013  :face_palm:

I'd bet my knickers on him being far ahead of the chasing pack.  :blush2:

That is a reflection of the tournament more than it is my support of the club. I can quite happily watch teams that aren't my own in the champions league but whenever I have tuned in to watch Europa league games they have been tedious to watch bar seeing Utd knocked out by Bilbao last season.

And the point I was making about mata was that he doesn't get analysed week in week out like Torres does. He obviously deserved his honours last season as he does this one, but in terms of his 'everything that Mata's' topic I don't see people posting in their every time he plays well or plays badly

Are you serious he was voted player of the season for 2011 / 2012  :laugh2:

Yes, he was voted player of the season. This is something to laugh AND cry about. Take off your blue tinted glasses(or blonde in this occasion)guys and admit that Torres never is/was/will be the player we paid for.
