Has he not been? Disregarding the quality of opponent what is wrong with saying he has been scoring regularly? I count myself lucky this season i've seen chelsea play about 6 times this season and torres scored in 5 of them.

You sure about that Mod ?

Well, sure they took some sh*t but mostly its falling to Benitez and Torres.

I'm not even taking into account Torres form, that's a non issue to debate. I'm saying that on a personal level and the insults thrown at Torres, people would think he sacked RDM and rang Rafa to get him the job.

I'd hate to see the reaction if he stops scoring regularly

OK Linesy, I'd like to give you a range of options and ask which one you think we should take;

1. Do you think you we should maintain the status quo and continue with Torres as our starting centre-forward ?

2. Do you think we go all out to bring in a top quality striker Falcao or A.N Other in the transfer window to replace Torres as our starting centre-forward ?

3. Do you think we bring in another centre-forward, but only as a back up to Torres ?

Questions addressed not just to you really but also to all the Torres fans i.e. Shedpensioner, Mclovin, Timetowaste, Ballack & Blu etc. I would be geuninely interested in your choices and the reasons for them.

Some of the sh*t Torres gets in posts here is embarrassing. Sure, we can vent frustration but some of the personal attacks on a Chelsea player is cringe-worthy.

Exactly how I have felt. I will hold my hands up and say he is terrible. But I have never doubted that he has wanted to win silverware here. Unlike our "manager" who is only here to use this clubs fame to line his pockets and improve his tattered image.

My fear is that Roman will credit the FSW with reviving Torres, and then we're really in trouble, because both of them might stay beyond the summer.

Those 6 goals include a pen, 2 against Nordsjaelland, 1 that was going well wide till it was deflected (against Monterrey), and a tap-in against Leeds. It hardly suggests he's back, but alas, it might make Roman feel vindicated.

Not even Roman could be that stupid. His goals have all come in matches that are largely meaningless. If he was at all a trusted option for RDM up front, we wouldnt have gone striker-less in the game against Juve, and things mightve been different in Europe. Similarly, the team takes the blame for the loss in Yokohama, but Torres on his own had more than enough chances to bail us out and didnt take any of them. This is while he has his supposed "confidence" back.

My hope for his recent goal scoring (and my hope for Roman's outlook) is that playing him is about nothing more than hoping to bilk some desperate team into paying money for him in January or June. Nothing more. But even that has become a pipe dream.

The original purposes of getting Torres (adding starpower, adding a goalscorer) have now both been rendered moot. Roman wasnt so forgiving with Sheva, who lasted 2 years here before being gone, so I dont know why Torres would get more of a leash.

I presume because people are taking into account the level of the opposition those goals have come against and, in some instances, how those goals have been scored i.e. Monterray deflected shot, the Shaktar shiner and the Leeds tap in. Now I fully expect some on here to come out with the usual, "I don't care who he scores against, or how he scores them". Fine if that's what they are happy with. Fine I suppose, if they think that makes him what we need. But I think they are totally wrong. IMO you measure the real worth of your Centre-forward against the best teams, with the best defenders, in the big games. On that criteria Torres is a repeated failure.

Goals against Barcelona, Arsenal, Newcastle and Shaktar say otherwise.

No one is saying he is ever going to be the player he was or that he deserves his place in the team but he has scored against big teams in big games...maybe not enough of course but he has done it and it's easy to just look past this as you have done.

I think we will buy Falcao and keep Torres, I am a fan of a 4-4-2 and i think that could work, managers seem to be terrified of playing 4-4-2

Please everyone ignore the question.

This is just one of those cynical easy-peasy questions designed to get you to text in and part with £1.50.

Every idiot and their monkey will be entering and you have no chance of winning the holiday.

Either way we need a new striker in january! Not because torres is bad but because you can't rely on one man to lead the line with the amount of games we will have to play!

^ Big teams big games? Newcastle?

We're scraping the bottom of the barrel somewhat ;)

Well they did push us all the way last season :P

For me it is option 2 regardless of whether he stops scoring or not- we all know deep down he is never going to fill the shoes left by Drogba and that is the difference between winning trophies and not winning trophies- would we have got out our CL group last year without Drogba? Quite possiby not, says it all.

For the record, I am not a 'Torres fan' at all, I think he has been poor for us since signing and if you actually read my posts reviewing his performances I think you will see that, I just have an issue with the verbal assults on him much like Mod touched on earlier.

The Barcelona goal was well taken, but it happened as a result of Barca's entire team being pushed up to try and score because they were losing on aggregate.

The Arsenal goal was well taken and an important goal, so that's one.

Newcastle are 15th in the table and are absolutely dire. It was his best looking goal in a Chelsea top, but they aren't a big team and that wasn't a big game.

The Shakhtar goal was a massive gaffe by the keeper. Whilst a Champions League match certainly satisfies the "big game" criteria, the goal itself was a joke.

Only the goal against Arsenal can be considered a big goal in a big game without a huge qualifier attached.

You could be right. Falcao as the spearhead centre-forward and Torres used in support of him. TBH the only time Torres has looked decent to me over the past two seasons is when he has been operating from wider positions.

You could also add the oppener against City in the CS.

Newcastle were high in the league at the time coming off a fantastic season so the 15th place is a bit of a stretch to use is it not?

No, I can't use the opener in a glorified friendly. The Community Shield doesn't satisfy the "big game" criteria.

And no, it's not a stretch to use 15th place against Newcastle. Whilst I don't truly believe they're that bad, they're a pretty poor side nonetheless. Their performance last year screamed fluke and their being "high in the table" when we played them this year means nothing considering how early in the season it was.

You can choose to view it that way if you like.

You call it a 'glorified friendly' but none the less it was a cup final and thus an important game for Chelsea.

It's funny how it's viewed like this when you lose it....

I'd view it like that no matter the outcome. All that needs to be said about the legitimacy of the Community Shield is that Ivan's red card didn't matter because it was a "non-competitive match". Anybody here who'd be touting the Community Shield, had we won it, is a bit desperate IMO.

Nah, if we sign a player like Falcao - we won't drop one of Oscar/Moses/Hazard/Mata just so Torres can "support" him, we have better players to provide "support. He will be on the bench as he was last year in our big games.

For all those advocating the thought of playing Torres + another striker, he played for 13 hours with Drogba on the pitch, both 4-4-2 and 4-3-3, and he never scored one goal.

The other issue with that change in formation would be that a 4-4-2 places considerably more defensive responsibility on the wide players. Mata and Hazard aren't players that hold their width and backtrack defensively. With a 4-4-2, you'd almost have to play Victor Moses instead of Mata and it'd be crazy to drop our best player. The 4-4-2 could certainly work for Torres, but it wouldn't work for us.

If we signed Falcao, I wouldn't be opposed to a 4-2-2-2 every now and then when fitness needed a boost? This would only work if we added another holding mid. It would allow us to rotate the midfield maestros by only playing 2 and resting the other. The old 'magic rectangle' is sketchy at times but it would allow us to occassionally rest. By no means would I want to see this formation game in and game out.

Something like this: Cech, Azpi, Iva, Terry, Cole, Ramires, Luiz, Mata, Hazard, Torres, Falcao (Basing this off of if we played a match during the African Cup so we'd be missing a few)

You're entitled to your opinion but from what I've seen so far since Rafa has taken over he looks sharper and more willing to shoot. As I said, he'll never get back to as good as he was at Liverpool but I reckon he could get us a good few goals under this new style of play.

I don't think it's about getting back to his "Liverpool form", we're long past that. At this point Torres is desperately trying to prove to everyone, including himself, that he is not finished as a top class footballer, despite all the signs to the contrary.

Probably a mix of 2 & 3 because I don't think Torres will leave & I doubt we will be going for Falcao! Apparently we're still after Schurle who I'd love us to sign.
