If I were Pep...

Featured Replies

I would be heading to Bayern.

He has been linked with every top club around Europe, us included obviously but I think should he chose to make his way to the bridge it would be an extremely risky move on his part. At Bayern he is going into a team that is not in transition, has a squad full of superstars and is the best team in the country (Touch and go with Dortmund I know but going off league form this season). To me it just seems like the logical choice for him.

Wouldn't want to be touching AC Milan with a 20 foot pole, PSG aren't really a great fit considering his relationship with the big man they have banging in goals up front. Unlikely he would go elsewhere in Spain, although I can't remember who but I do seem to remember he has a relationship with a smaller club there.

As for teams in England it would have to be one of United, Arsenal, Chelsea or City. Two of these teams are waiting for managers to depart although I do think both United and Arsenal would suit him but they are not currently available. As for Chelsea and City at both these clubs there is the demand for instant success and in such a highly competitive league. Chelsea in particular are in this transition stage at the moment and whereas with Barca he was walking into a job with one of the most outrageously gifted squads of all time (still a bunch of diving, whining pricks) he would not have that luxury with us despite our squad certainly heading in that direction.

It certainly will be interesting, I for one am not all that keen to see him here. What are everyone else's thoughts of where you see him landing after his sabbatical and if he were to come to us?

Bayern is set up nicely for the future, however with how well Heynckes is doing with them at the moment I can't see them wanting to make a managerial change. It is Pep though, so who knows.

Pep to Man City is a real possibility. The management seem to stick behind their man more than we do. Plus, they have unlimited funds for Pep to mold the team to his liking. I can really see this happening especially if Mancini has an early CL exit plus doesn't repeat as PL champ. No trophies? Expect to see Pep's name linked with Man City quite a bit.

I don't think Pep to Manu has much traction to it basically because of timing. Fergie isn't going to retire for a couple of years and Pep will probably be planted somewhere by then. He could end up there in the future, but I don't think he'll be there this summer.

Why would he want to go to Arsenal? They turn a profit but they don't sink money into their team like they should. Pep wouldn't put up with that maddening situation, I don't think.

Obviously Pep coming to us is a real possibility. I think he'd want some assurances from RA that he might not get. I bleed blue, but have to admit that we aren't the most stable of clubs for managers in recent years. So why would Pep want to come here? Money, transfer funds, club success, etc. However, if he thinks he could be fired for finishing second and not wining the CL in year one, I could see him potentially staying away. I'm not sure I want to see him come here... Yet. For me, RDM has been doing a fine job so far. Yes, we're third and we've had a little blip. Yes, we're not undefeated in the CL. However, Robbie hasn't done anything to really question what the heck he's doing. Everyone makes mistakes and I think he'll get things straight. I might change my mind at the end of the year, but for now I'd rather stick with our man.

I could see Inter as a possible landing spot for Pep. If they open up the purse strings to get him and for transfers, he might want to try his hand in Serie A. I can't see him even debating the AC Milan job. I just don't see that as a fit for Pep at all with the disarray happening there.

Could Russia be a fit for Pep? I have no idea. I would imagine if Anzhi or someone through gobs of money at him that he might consider it.

It'll be interesting to see how this plays out. If I had to guess where Pep would land based off of where things stand today, my money would be on Man City.

I don't think there is enough prestige in the Russian league for someone like Pep. I know everyone has their price and all that but can't really see it. Reason I started the thread is because I had been watching ESPN Press Pass and Raphael Honigstein or Gab Marcotti, one of those guys anyway with connections in the German league said that apparently Jupp Heynckes is leaving at the end of the season and if so the job seems set up perfectly for Pep.

I also mentioned Arsenal as somewhere he would suit, not necessarily somewhere he would go. He has often praised Arsenal in the past and they would be perfect for him but you are right that one would never happen.

But getting complete players isn't his style either. Imo he wants younger players like Haz or Oscar, which can be easier thought of his style, while you can hardly teach a new style to players like Robben or Gomez for i.e. as they were playing a diff style for their whole career.

And he likes to spend, too. While Bayern aren't poor at all, they still (apart from Martinez, but he's supposed to be the last big buy in many years to come) they rather look for cheaper options.

You don't get to be the best in the world at something without taking on challenges. I don't know, or particularly care where he'll end up but suggesting that the easy choice is the most likely just seems plain wrong to me. He'll want to prove himself to be one of the greatest ever managers and he'll have the self belief to think he can succeed in a difficult job.

I wouldn't exactly say that Bayern prefer to look for cheaper options. They're shown no hesitation at splashing out sizable transfer fees recently.

Luiz Gustavo - 17 million euros

Neuer - 22 million euros

Robben - 24 million euros

Ribery - 25 million euros

Gomez - 30 million euros

Martinez - 40 million euros

The reason that they don't need to spend big more often than they do is because they've done a fantastic job of developing talent internally. Schweinsteiger, Lahm, Kroos, Müller, Badstuber, Alaba and Contento have all graduated from their youth set up. That's another reason that Pep might be attracted to Bayern, as he's used to having a great youth set up with La Masia.

The only reason I would accept Guardiola coming here is if he brought Messi with him. Otherwise RDM should be given a decent chance. But if Roman feels the need to change again soon, there is of course still only one man for the job - Mourinho.

Jose is the only man who I'd want if Robbie was not to be.

Arsenal fans who think that Pep Guardiola would go to them are just...and the fact that they think they have a realistic chance of signing Cavani? There are no words to describe the delusion.

I wouldn't mind seeing him here but I like RDM and he needs a fair run as manager. If we win no silverware this season and RDM ends up getting sacked then I think Roman will do all he can to get Pep here if he is still available.

We've mentioned Bayern, Milan and Inter but we're forgetting a certain Juventus here...

If Juve are sticking with Conte for a year long touchline ban I don't think that they would go for pep should he want to go there

My indoor team could use him, willing to offer him a coke & a pie (sauce is performance based) not sure how the boys would feel about the high pressure defense though

:D

Could see him going to a bayern or man city though. And with a potential man city job trying to bring one of messi/cronaldo with him

Conte will be back early december, so Juventus will definitely not go for Pep.

I dont want him here, it will be a massive gamble. He has coached once at a club he knew inside out, in a league he knew inside out. Coming to us in a different league and a different environment could be a big mistake.

He also had the best bunch of players in the world, and the best attacking line-up we've seen. Most coaches with half a brain could have won things with that team.

think pep's overrated myself, he just tweaked the barca team, foundation was already in place

I agree. I have said plenty of times now, any half decent manager could win things with a team as good as Barcelona.
