Barca after Courtois

Featured Replies

I doubt he would get many games there. We would be wise to include him to stay on loan for a season or two in the Falcao deal.

You don't like Cechs clearing of the ball upfield so much that you are willing to replace him with a keeper who is inferior to him in nearly all other skill sets?

this really shouldn't be an option, need someone in to really press Cech, and i am getting sick of him constantly hoofing it to no one.

So you think Cech is the one who's deciding to boot it up the pitch haphazardly? You don't think that's a coaching issue? Even the FSW isn't stupid enough to allow Petr to continue doing something that he doesn't want him to do.

By the way, Courtois isn't particularly adept at long passing either. Petr Cech is one of the absolute best keepers in the world. He doesn't need pushed. It's great that we have Courtois, particularly as Petr is always one knock away from never playing another match, but this is getting silly now.

He's better than Valdes but we wouldn't sell him. Anyone who watched the Barca game last night would have heard what the commentators were saying, and for once it's true. he's easily the best young keeper in spain, if not world football. 20 years old and easily in the top 3 in spain. Will be a huge keeper for us down the line, we wouldn't sell unless we got a huge offer, even then I doubt we'd sell..

Where did i say replace him???

So you'd bring him in to sit on the bench as our #2? That's almost as ridiculous. He needs to play. Why sacrifice his development to "push" a keeper that doesn't need any motivation to perform at an elite level? Because his distribution is poor?

Well if we dont recall him and barca do get him, you do the marhs!

Ask him what he would rather do. Stay on loan or come back and watch Cech from the bench while he wastes his talent. Cechs got 3 years left in him Courtois is extremely young for a GK..

Silly me, all this time I was under the impression that we had a choice in the matter. I guess if Barca wants one of our players, they've got him because, f**k, they're Barca. Who are we to stop them?

Logical thinking i like it!, I actually think Cech is on the wane, obviously he is getting older, just enquiring for a few replies, not some snotty, put you down!

Will be interesting to see how we manage Courtois in the near future. He will be wanting first team football and will know that Cech will be far from over the hill within his present contract. All the time he is in Spain he is gaining reputation whilst getting used to a Spanish way of life, both Barca and Real will be looking for replacement keepers themselves within the next couple of years. The links with both these clubs will continue until he establishes himself in our first team. It wouldnt surprise me if a bid did come in for him, question is will we bite and cash in?

at the end of the day I think Courtois would rather play for us with hazard, de bruyne, and Lukaku, not to mention the possibility of thorgan or the musonda brothers breaking through.

I do think we should be offering him an improved deal at the end of this year for another 4/5 years to keep him out the clutches of our rivals.

I think this would be a huge mistake to let it happen.

Courtois from what i've seen of his looks very assured for a young fella and Cech is now one of the Old Guard that will need replaced in a season or so.

It's not as if we're brimming with backup keepers either.

We would be absolutely mad to. Roman, to his credit, doesn't 'do' selling.

Athletico seem happy with the loan arrangement at the moment, the fact that we've extended it beyond the typical single season points towards that fact. I don't see any reason why they wouldn't be happy to have him there on loan until we need him, and from Courtois' perspective, surely it's a pretty cosy position to be in. Number one at one of the biggest clubs in Spain, with a nailed on spot in the succession plan here, what's not to like?

I think he needs to come to England before he comes to Chelsea. Look at how David de Gea struggled last year. There's a big difference in the style of play between the two leagues and de Gea had lots of trouble dealing with balls in the air for Man U even though he had no trouble with that facet of his game in Spain.

A very good point, something which the club should consider a bit further down the line.

Realistically I don't see Petr leaving for a good four or five seasons at least yet, so a lot will depend on Courtois' patience and desire to become our number 1 one day. If Barca are seriously looking at him, it would be a bit blinkered to dismiss it as a possibility. It all depends on where he wants his future to lie.

Ourselves and Thibaut hold sway though, the fact (?) that Barca (or any other club for that matter) might want him doesn't matter a jot. It's up to us.

If Petr doesn't deteriorate and sticks around till he's pushing 40, we mightn't see Courtois at the bridge at all. There will come a point when the club will have to make a decision between the two, weighing up sentiment and practicality.

All I know for certain is that as long as Petr is number one, Thibaut shouldn't be at the bridge. He doesn't need to do an 'apprenticeship' on the bloody bench, he needs to be playing.

I remember reading an article a while back from Thibaut saying that Chelsea's plan was to loan him to Atletico for two years, then to a PL side, then to replace Cech...

Hang on, just found it:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2051245/Petr-Cech-Chelsea-future-doubt-says-Thibaut-Courtois.html

'Chelsea’s goalkeeping coach told me he doesn’t know how much time Cech can play at the top level,' the 19-year-old told Spanish radio station Onda Cero.

'I know he has problems in his knees and on his back.

'Chelsea told me to spend two years at a club like Atletico. After that one season in an English team so I can integrate myself into the Premier League.'

Solid plan for him if true.  Will be interesting to see what Prem ream he goes too.  Is there one right now screaming out for a better keeper that would take one on loan?
