Oscar - Little Diamond

Featured Replies

Don't know if anyone else brought this up, but please can we not call him "Little Diamond." Simply because Benayoun is know as the "The Diamond from Dimona", so I would appreciate if we steered clear of all things diamond from now on at the club.

I dont like it either, sounds really camp

This is something I read elsewhere "Oscar has stats but not performances"

Can someone explain what that really means?

It means, someone doesn't know what they're talking about.

Pretty sure they say the same about Lampard.

He has goals (the only thing that really matter in Football) yet he's still inferior to most midfielders apparently.

It means they're really really bitter.

Someone suggested it means " He barks but doesn't bite"

Someone likes to spew random proverbs at you.

I always knew he was a real talent. While everyone was raving about Hazard at the start of last season I was adament that he was the best player we had. I was bowled over by his touch at Wigan at the start of last year when he appeared as a sub. He's pure football. Interesting as to whether Jose sees him as a better player than Mata or if it's just something fitness related.

Should have netted tonight though.

The notion that he is even close to Mata is a joke. Mata should be in the 10 role. End of story. Oscar is mush more suited for the Lampard role.

Mata is better in games were we dominate possession, Oscar comes into his own in games were we have to dig deep but still has the quality to produce at the other end. Both players are vital to our season.

It's hard to dominate possession when we sit back and defend the whole game. Doesn't logo good for Mata then. Anytime we play any team with some quality, our best player will be on the bench.

Stats don't just appear out of nowhere. They are real-world observations.

As the lad above me said I believe oscar is better than mata in the number 10 role in games like tonight where we attack quickly on the counter. Look at mata in the champions league final and the semi final against barcelona. He was invisible and couldn't get on the ball and create anything. Oscars work rate is incredible and he isn't afraid to get stuck in an put himself about. When he gets the ball he is able to pick a pass and drive ta defenders.

Mata is good for 90% of the games we play in but in the 10% of games we play like tonight oscar is the better option!

A bit too much dribbling if you ask me. A deep role like everyone is suggesting would be perfect. Long shot capable. Good work rate. Slight but fearless.

Mata should be the 10. Mata creates chances. Oscar creates moments.

This is precisely it. They are different players and Oscar has a much more versatile playing style which fits him into these tight checking contests. mata's wonderful offensive abilities are fantastic but when it comes time to winning the ball back Oscar is light years ahead of him already. Though it may take some years, the ceiling for Oscar is much higher than Mata. The question as always is if the player can fulfill. Regardless we have two quality players on our hand and the depth and the squad and the intelligence of our manager mean that we can really play to our strengths now.

That would mean droping Lampard now and again, something JM seems very reluctant to do.,even when he is slow and tired like yesterday.

Honestly think Oscar could be one of the best holding mids of all time.  I still think Ramires--Lampard is too weak a duo against the big clubs.  Oscar--Van Ginkel could be electric!

oscar and van ginkel would be very vulnerable, and naive at this moment in time, however id love to see them paired with Mikel and Ramires respectably, until they have matured into their roles.

I think a five of van ginkel, oscar, hazard, mata, and willian, could be pure gold in years time.
