Oscar - Little Diamond

Well I am his biggest fan.... But his all round movement is brilliant, hard to spot it if you watch the ball but in the opponents half whoever has the ball he is nearly alWays available to collect, ,give and go again. But he's not cocky or lightweight, he works and tackles too.

Jose coiuld build the team round him...which is slight worry for juan but for me he is a first pick

Big fan of Oscar, our most complete midfielder. Love seeing him also playing in a deeper role as he is always there to help out other player by being available. This could also accommodate Mata in no. 10 role.

After watching Grouch play in the confederations cup I thought "wow, this kid plays a lot better at international level then for us,"  So I was a bit worried when Mourinho hinted he may be our main #10.  Honestly that much against Hull has dismissed those worries.  The way he moved the ball and set up play was as good as anyone I've seen in a while.

I love me some Juan Mata, but he does not command the field like Oscar does. Give Oscar 3 years and he will be top 10 in world football.  Either him or Luiz for next captain!

I can picture Luiz being a captain but not Oscar. Just because a player plays well doesnt make him a good captain.

I see it the other way round. Just because someone is a big personality doesn't necessarily make him a good captain either. May be Luiz is too much of a joker to be taken seriously as captain.

I think Oscar, although he seems to have a quiet nature, would be an inspiration because of his attitude and work ethic.

Luiz is a natural leader as is Terry. They don't impose it but other players naturally see their charisma and leadership and it catches on. I don't see why Oscar couldn't be a captain but as long as we have the two formerly mentioned I think he wont get/want the armband. After 4-5 years who knows...

Would be great if both are here in 4/5 years. If for some reason this year Terry, SFL ans Cech are missing I'd see Luiz being next in line. I was thinking more of a few years down the line ( might be getting ahead of myself here) but I can see Oscar being a world class Chelsea stalwart and a natural inspiration to all around.

Hope so. I don't see why he couldn't captain us.

Watching him in pre-season and against Hull he looks like a different player, the way he carries the ball, tracks back and works the midfield.  He has certainly grown in confidence during the pre-season.  I have to agree with the article that Mata just might be on the outside looking in if Oscar's performances continue.   As for a future captain, well I think that he is down the pecking order somewhat, perhaps vice captain like Frank.

I think oscar is wasted out on the right hand side, he is a central player, but Mata can play out right just as easily as he can through the centre. I can't see him being left out of the team, he's too influential a player, but i think the team will be rearranged to make mata one of our wingers. After all, that's where he played for valencia

I doubt he is captain material, probablu hardlys speaks english, which means he cannot tell the bar stewards aka referees to go f**k themselves, and for the same reason and the fact that he looks 14 as Blueblur said, he'd hardly have captain authority. And he just doesn't seem the character.

The requirements for a captain are to lead by example, be vocal and command the respect of the squad.

David Luiz fits that description perfectly.

Our current captain John Terry believes Luiz is a future Chelsea captain.

Here's what he said " David has the personality of a leader. He pushes the lads.

He is like that in training demanding a lot from himself and others around him. It's good for the squad".

John Terry's endorsement is good enough for me.

Did it, can't remember that one. Funny never saw Mata as captain material.

I thought it was Cole who got the armband after the top 3 are missing, and Ivanovic has captained in friendlies too I believe.

Luiz is definitely captain material. Did he not captain Brazil in the game against england?

He was the first to console Mata when he missed his penalty in Munich.

I dont think theres room for both him and mata in the starting lineup, and both are too good to be benched

As Jack above said Oscar can play deeper allowing Mata a more central role. Oscar looks very comfortable in a deep lying role but in some ways he might be a bit of a waste.

I think there is enough room for both, remember Mata hasn't had a pre season so isn't match fit by a long way. Last season under Robbie he lined up with Mata on the right Oscar centrally and Hazard on the left. They were at their best like that and when Mata is fully fit they will be sensational. If they all interchange like De Bruyne Hazard and Oscar did at Hull not alot of teams will be able to deal with them.

Don't know if anyone else brought this up, but please can we not call him "Little Diamond." Simply because Benayoun is know as the "The Diamond from Dimona", so I would appreciate if we steered clear of all things diamond from now on at the club.
