March 7, 201412 yr Any other new stadium plans? Batter wouldve been great seems likely we will end up holding our breath for nothing- besides updating the bridge, or moving to the old train station, where are chelsea fc going to end up calling home in the future?
April 11, 201412 yr What's keeping the Malaysians from getting this started? One day I'll click in here and will see some possitve news on this! I watched a programme on the expansion of London etc and the Malaysians consortium were on it. They've already sold hundred of apartments, which haven't even been built yet. They are going ahead and doesnt look likely that we have a way in. Whats up with Earls court? Is that happening?!

There's a guy who blogs about the proposed housing project on The Guardian who tracks the progress. Looks like the 1000+ un-affordable flats is set to go ahead seeing as it has Borris Johnson and his Torrie cronies backing. http://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/davehillblog/2014/mar/27/earls-court-lillie-square-capco-marketing-materials
April 11, 201412 yr There's only enough square footage around Stamford Bridge to expand the current stadium by about 5 thousand which is not big enough for what the club wants. It's to do with the area surrounding the ground itself not being big enough mostly due to the railway lines but I read on the Chelsea website they would need to expand the width of the exit points leading out of the ground mostly the one which runs parallel with the East Stand. It really is shame that office space and apartments was chosen over this: Yeah, saw that and it did send shivers up my spine. Yet, I thought it would have been quite awesome, and would have involved some engineering clout to boot, to basically move two of the chimneys so that the four chimneys were actually the four corners of the stadium. Imagine a mostly blue stadium with the four white chimneys lit with spotlights at night. OK, back to reality. Cheers, Butch

Imagine a mostly blue stadium with the four white chimneys lit with spotlights at night. OK, back to reality. Cheers, Butch We could have had an original modern football stadium. As impressive as a stadium like the Emirates is, it's so nondescript, you could pick that stadium up and put it anywhere else in the world. The thing that I really liked about the incorporating the power station chimneys into the stadium was that it would have been so unique and iconic of London. Now all we are getting is more flats and office space and our search for space for a stadium goes on and we'll probably end up building another lifeless "bowl" stadium.
April 11, 201412 yr Battersea laid empty for so many years.............. It's BS and sad for us. Next best scenario is buy up some of the area that surround the Bridge and/or send the railway underground but I don't know how realistic that all is...?
April 11, 201412 yr Another instance of local culture being impeded by businessmen overseas. It saddens me. I would love to see a revamped Stamford Bridge, but as many have said on here, I cannot see a logical way of doing that. If we want a larger capacity venue, we will need to move. As much as I hate the thought of leaving the Bridge, it will eventually be a necessity. I had goosebumps when I saw the proposed power station stadium. With a bit of luck the Malaysians plans will fail spectacularly and we get our ground in the end. Edited April 11, 201412 yr by theblueone
April 11, 201412 yr Local elections next month, if Labour get voted in to LBHF they should should be a little kinder to us than Conservatives as far as expansion/EC goes.

It really is shame that office space and apartments was chosen over this: still a bit gutted about this. i didn't want to leave the bridge until i saw this mock up amongst all the discussion at the time. the worst thing about losing battersea was the vast majority of it is now going to be more ridiculously-priced apartments that 70% of London can't afford to live in anyway. can't help but feel the city missed out here as much as the club did. the most successful London club of the future, merging with such an iconic location of the past (i'll stop moaning now, what's done is done)
April 11, 201412 yr That is the biggest disappointment for me too. I can't stand all these property developers who don't even live here but own iconic land such as this but seek to only make second homes for the filthy rich. That mock up looks incredible. I love the pipes and the overall shape of the building with the pillar like features. A bit of a moot point now, but I wonder what we would have called it.

I would have call it battersea stadium but it would probably be Samsung stadium
April 11, 201412 yr I would have call it battersea stadium but it would probably be Samsung stadium You lot are probably gonna think I'm sad for this, but I was thinking about it earlier. Its inevitable that Samsung would want to brand it if we move. But Samsung stadium doesn't sound right to me. I think the Galaxy stadium would sound much better. Even though it sounds American lol. April 12, 201412 yr Honestly guys these luxury apartments will be much more beneficial to London's economy than a sports stadium. It's been debunked that sport stadiums bring any kind of economic growth to an area. They don't. Stadiums sit idle for most of the year, but don't get me wrong Battersea would have been amazing.

I'm sure the bars and restaurants around Stamford bridge might disagree especially if we moved. Ok fair enough in the simmer it might be quieter but during the season with chelsea in europe the pubs shops and restaurants make a bomb. Let's say a pub like the Lilly langtry is quite on a midweek then chelsea get a home draw in Europe the pub is packed. Think it's unfair to say a stadium isn't beneficial to the local trades in the area. I'm sure Stamford bridge on a match day keeps a lot of business running for the year
April 12, 201412 yr I wouldn't look to rename it. The Power Station sounds apt :) Given the need to increase revenue (FFP), it will definitely be called 'The Npower Station'
April 12, 201412 yr could we not do a spurs and knock the stadium down and build a new one? Groundshare with a team like MK Dons for a season or 2?
April 12, 201412 yr Can be possible but we have to like share stadium with different club or build temporary one
