Webb to ref United game.

Featured Replies

Not surprised about Webb for the Utd game at all - he needs those extra few appearances to ensure he gets a medal

I admire you blind faith Scott. Im not so sure. Our run in is so tough. I think it relys on Spurs and Arsenal dropping points. Fingers crossed they do.

...and he did very well indeed in that game I thought. Let the game flow and didn't get anything wrong that I could see.

Disagree. Madrid were very dirty and got away with it. It was clearly a tactic. How Ramos escaped a booking till late on in the game evades me. He was kicking and elbowing Lewandowski all night.

Definitely!

@Davey

That kind of behaviour, however wrong it may have been, is more commonplace in the PL where Webb plys his trade. No wonder he allowed a lot to go without punishment, any other referee from a different league would have picked up on it. I think it's a testament to the English game that we allow a more physical side without having to resort to diving and endless play acting.*

I realise that everyone loves to jump on the I hate Webb bandwagon whenever he's in charge of a game involving United, but personally I think he's a fairly decent official. Certainly one of the better ones when it comes down to it.

*although there are some exceptions!

^ Splishysploshy, raising your hands to someone's face is a straight red according to the rules. Both Alonso and Ramos were guilty of the act right in front of Webb. Nothing done, just as when Cisse grabbed Cole round the throat right in front of Webb at Newcastle. Yellow to both players. Cole had literally done nothing. As far as I'm concerned Webb gets to ref so many Utd games because Fergie has him in his pocket. Remember Rio this season? The incident with Torres? Retrospective punishment came down to Webb who said he would not have sent Rio off had he seen it. There are countless other examples. He gave them two penalties at our place last season one of which was a dive by Hernandez, etc etc.

Klopp said last night things went on he had never seen in his life. He castigated Webb. He commended his players for keeping cool. Real were trying to get a reaction. Webb did nothing about it IMO.

Lets just hope that with Man U already safely ensconsed as title winners, and unable to surpass our record points total, it gives Webb a chance to "prove" he is not biased by reffing the game fairly...

Obviously I won't be holding my breath...

I'm struggling to remember a time when Webb really screwed us - correct me if I'm wrong.  I know he's screwed others (namely Liverpool) against United but he generally does well in our games from my recollection.

Newcastle this season. Two clear sendings-off for them and a stonewall penalty for us? Not a chance.

Was he in charge for that one where Ba was kicked in the face?  I stand corrected!

V United at the Bridge last season, we were winning 3-0, he gave them two penalties- one of which was very soft, the other just a dive.

Maybe Madrid got away with a few things 'cos Webb loves Mourinho as much as Fergie, so we should be okay next season

I personally though Webb had a great game last night and let it flow with no fussy whistle blowing for every little incident. Both camps raised their arms a few times so he was fair to both. If Dortmund had taken their chances as they should have done the game would have ben over long before the final whistle so Klopp should be moaning at his players rather than the ref.

@Davey (I would quote you but it doesn't give me the option on this computer)

Points very well made, I certainly never meant to imply that Ramos' behaviour was excusable because it most certainly wasn't. Should he have been sent off? Probably yes.

I agree that Webb has certainly made some questionable decisions in his time, (what ref hasn't?!), however I still believe he is one of our top officials. I'd much prefer to have him ref'ing one of our games than say Foy, who has to be the most inept offical of all time.

Ramos and contreao could have easily had a red each last night, they got away with a ridiculous amount on lewandowski.
