October 10, 201312 yr I personally have had 6 ops on my left knee (4 times cartilige removal and 2 clean outs) and one cartilige removal on my right knee last year and i'm now going for double full knee replacement surgery in a months time at age 53. All my problems started with a cartilige tear when i was 21ish and i managed to maintain a volleyball playing career well into my 30's although left knee was never the same ... hopefully MvG's knee will be a straight forward ligament tear as this can be repaired or replaced doesn't look good for the future though. Firstly good luck for that!My nan is having a knee replacement very soon too, at the age of 90!! Sorry to be a nosey bugger, but do you attribute your injuries to volleyball, or did other sports etc have a factor? What happened? Edited October 10, 201312 yr by Zola

Aye im allegedly way to young to have the replacements but needs must lol Not quite sure how it came about ... think i tore cartilige on my knee playing football when i was in my teens, however was just a niggley injury and could keep going, managed to keep playing national league and international volleyball until i couldnt take the pain anymore and the NHS finally had a look and removed a torn piece when i was 26 ... kept playing volleyball and had 3 further surgeries to remove various bits and finally all the cartilige in my left knee by the time i was 30 ... been suffering ever since and with the ultimate embarrasment tore my right knee cartilige last july playing Lawn bowls .... slipped on wet grass going to bar ;-) lol which has now led to the replacement surgeries

That's commitment. Or insanity :-)

October 11, 201312 yr Commitment and insanity Valerie and Sticky plaster bandages You know youve problems when it takes you about 30 minutes to get ready because of all the strapping, taping up etc.
October 11, 201312 yr Im sure MvG will have the best of facilities to aid his recovery and rehab ... i had nothing after the Falkirk & District Royal infirmary butchers block
November 4, 201312 yr on Instagram MVG just uploaded a video of himself jogging on the spot in a swimming pool, looks like the recovery is going quite well...moving away from the no impact stuff to the pool is a good sign. Still a long way to go, but I am sure he is happy that he is progressing. Edited November 4, 201312 yr by Zola
December 15, 201312 yr Any updates on him lately? We could certainly do with him again in the squad. I thought he was an exciting prospect. But I also felt the same about Kevin De Bruyne
December 15, 201312 yr Physioroom has him out till June, so basically the rest of the season. Also has Bertrand listed as out injured.
December 15, 201312 yr Physioroom has him out till June, so basically the rest of the season. Also has Bertrand listed as out injured. Shame, hope his recovery is coming along. Yeah I knew about Bertrand, but it seems that not many others in the forum do as they see it as a big Jose conspiracy as the reason Berty isn't being selected and Dave is playing LB
December 15, 201312 yr Its a massive shame he got such a bad injury, with our midfield struggling so badly he had a real chance to make the position his own.
December 15, 201312 yr I still can't understand why Jose doesn't give KDB a go in midfield. He can't really be any worse than what we've seen so far.
December 15, 201312 yr Maybe. But if KDB an international footballer with a great season in Germany, and Lukaku a international footballer with a great season in the PL can't get a game for us, I can't see Jose giving Chalobah a chance except maybe in the carling cup. I just don't like this playing 2 defensive midfielders, because they don't really defend much anyway. When you play 4-1-2-2-1 or 4-3-3 or 4-5-1 however you want to define it, with one holding midfielder, that is his sole job to sit in front of the back 4. But with 2 players there, letting them go forward and attack, it runs the risk of them both having gone forward and being out of position. With just one, told to just defend, you know he's going to be there all the time. I think Luiz could do that job to some extent, but he's too flamboyant and attack-minded to do it for long, as I feel he'd get frustrated being told to stay back all the time. Chalobah is that kind of player, but he won't get a chance probably. Not really sure we have someone who can fit there at the moment. Essien perhaps?

I would like to see him try this, but KDB would need to play alongside a more defensive player like Mikel or Essien. So that puts KDB in direct competition with Ramires and Lampard when we do play a DM

But Chalobah for me is better than what we have in centre midfield which is the biggest weakness of our squad in my opinion.I don't see what Mikel and Essien can can do for us that Chalobah cant do. Chalobah is more mobile, can tackle, pass, good technically and by the look of him last season at Watford can score you a goal.If Mourinho thinks he has a future with us next season then why not put him in our squad now?.

I agree. Next season will give us these answers concerning Chalobah and Van Ginkel and Lukaku - I believe they're are future (along with Hazard, Oscar, etc) - let's see is Jose thinks so too.

December 16, 201312 yr Hes getting there. Potentially end of season return? Seems to be recovering quite quickly. Id imagine building up the strength to a professional level will take the most time though.
December 16, 201312 yr Six months I think they said the injury recovery would be so he should be looking to return around March/April.
December 16, 201312 yr I hate to be a pessimist as I wish the best for this chap...but can you think of any player who has had such a serious injury and came back to their best? I know Aaron Ramsey had a serious leg break, with age on his side he is very lucky.
