League table predictions

Featured Replies

Given that the new season is almost upon us now, I thought it might be interesting to post our predictions for the final league table, and see how close we were at the end of the season (could make a competition out of it and see who is the closest).

Here's mine:

1. Man City

2. Chelsea

3. Spurs

4. Man Utd

5. Arsenal

6. Liverpool

7. West Brom

Can't argue with most of it.

Interesting to see Man U 3rd and 4th - is it because of doubts about Moyes/the transition? I.e. would place differ if SAF managing?

Pretty much agree with Zeta's prediction but could equally be Teritus'. I'm not sure that Everton will finish as high as you think.

Tough to pick between Villa, West Ham, Everton and Newcastle but that's more or less what I'm expecting assuming there's no more transfers. I'll adjust this at the end of the transfer window if things change.

Yep, in hindsight perhaps I did put Everton too high up. Holding onto Fellaini and/or Baines will of course be massive for them, but losing Moyes was evidently a huge blow.

Yep. The Man U job may be a difficult learning curve for Moyes but he knew how to motivate and get the best from Everton (although to the frustration of some fans who eventually got fed up with the 'doing well with modest resources' line).

Gonna be an interesting season.

Fingers and toes crossed, goat sacrificed, let's get going!

Seems that almost everyone agrees with the view that if you finish above City, you win the league.

I can't see any stopping them though, incredibly strong team.

If City can be consistent they should just about squeak it over us with Utd coming a distant 3rd, 4th will be an interesting fight again but depending what Arsenal do in the transfer window they just might be on the outside looking in.  Spurs have become a much stronger team this year and it depends on their away form as to whether they can finish in 3rd or 4th place.  Liverpool just might be in with a shout but their overall squad depth might see them fall short and end up 5th or 6th.  I think the January transfer window might have a big say this season as the expectation will be that 4 or 5 clubs will be in for a shout and it will depend on who wants to spend the big money for the final push.  Of course it will all depend on where teams are in terms of domestic cup competitions and European games.  Wouldn't be surprised if this year has been put aside as a settling in period for the new boys and the real challenge for all competitions will come next season.

I can't make myself type the top two but will say if we get a striker by the time the window closes we'll just pip City, if not, then probably not.

a lot depends on transfers though and I might have a rethink come September the second.

I think you will either finish a close second to us, or us to you... but i had to opt for my beloved Citizens. i'd love to see "the rags" (our traditional name for Yoonited) fall into complete disarray under Moyes, but i doubt it tbh.

Just a bump to ask (even though it's early doors) would anyone who posted their predictions revise them based on the season so far?

At this time it looks as if the PL title will be hard fought and a few teams are under and overperforming.

It's hard to discount Arsenal but I do think City and ourselves are the most likely.  City on form is still the best squad in the league.  Who knows what will happen to United.  Nobody is assured of top 4 this season though.  If Everton have good luck with injuries they could even have a go of it with Lukaku's help.  The November/December period is usually the test of mettle in title races (where United usually do so well) so we'll see if anyone breaks away through that.

I'm still not happy to speculate as our striker problem is still to be ironed out, if Torres or Eto'o could be relied on to play around 85% of their best form I would be confident Jose would have us sorted in the next couple of months and if the other pretenders keep slipping up I'd put my money on us.

As it is though for me and after the transfer window I'd change my first prediction a bit, Arsenal would have to be taken more seriously and Everton would climb a few places while City would still be the team to beat.

Spurs are not quite looking as good as I expected and Soldado has been a bit slow to find the form I thought he would, Eriksen looks good though and I think they will have a tight battle with Pool and UTD. Wengers experience at grabbing a cl place plus the way Ozil has slotted in with Ramsey and Giroud in form make me plump for the Gooners to nick third.

Here's how I'd imagine it going unless something surprising happens in the January window.
