Would michu be a good choice as striker?

Featured Replies

Just wondering. The options are limited at the moment and might get him for a lot less than rooney or et'oo and better choice than ba at the moment.

Im not so sure to be honest. Swansea wouldnt let him go for less than 25 million so i read the other day. He had a fantastic season last season but can he do it again this season? Im just not sure really.

I think he'd be best off staying at Swansea, even though he had a fantastic season I'm not quite sure how he'd cope in a title contending/champions league team. I like him a lot but I just don't think he's the way to go.

He's only had one good season in the Premier League after being a relatively unknown player up until the age of 26/27.

I'm not sure he will consistently deliver the good personally and personally I don't believe he would be much of an improvement if any on the strikers we already have.

He's more than capable playing as a striker, that's not really the problem. But I guess he personally prefers playing behind the striker.

Capable is good enough for teams like Swansea, not the top teams. He's a lot better behind the striker making late runs and lurking in and around the box, it's where most of his goals come from.

yeah, that's why we're saying he's not the way to go. But if we count Shrek out who do we go for? Am I the only one who saw that Rodrigo rumour last week or so? That would be so perfect.

There are plenty of good players around. Lamela who is rumoured to Spurs or Arsenal could be a very good player, I see him in the mould of Suarez without the personality flaw, would need work on his finishing but could be an excellent striker with time. El Shaarwy is also very good maybe more rounded and had a good rate when played as a striker before Balotelli came in. Luis Muriel is highly rated also and I would love to see him come here. Lorenzo Insigne has bags of potential as well if we were willing to be patient. Jackson Martinez looks like he could be a very good player but might be to similar to Lukaku. Then the more established players like Lewandowski and Benzema who are unlikely but are considered world class strikers and should be sensational for us. Alot of these players may have the same problem as Lukaku in the fact they may not be 'ready' but compliment Lukaku so can develop with him and offer different options. After all I believe Jose has said they don't need to win this year so moulding 2 different styles of young hungry strikers this year could make us unbelievable next year. Basically Michu imo isn't the best striker to have and is at his peak so hasn't got alot of room for improvement.

Demba Ba is essentially a goal poacher though. Imo he would be a good option off the bench if we need a goal but a 'poacher' doesn't really sound something we need. A Rooney or Lewandowski kind of player is what we need tbf someone who is clever and makes good runs and can link the play.

Lamela is not a striker though

Suarez wasn't a striker before he moved to Liverpool but he merged into one. Me bringing up Lamela is really if we go for a 27 year old Michu for 25 million pounds why not go for Lamela who at 30 million has a higher ceiling of potential and is imo better and younger. I can see Lamela developing into a very good striker if he was nurtured that way.

Completely agree with what Jonty said about "Big fish in a small pond."

It took Ba coming to Chelsea for me to realize that it could happen to consistent goalscorers at mid-table clubs. It would be a real shame for Michu and I think Ashley Williams if they left for bigger clubs. I think their careers would dramatically tank. Look at Scott Sinclair last year, what a terrible career decision!

Hell yes

Him or Benteke would be great, cheap and both big strong fellas with a clear eye for goal.

Eith would be well worth a punt.

Both are locked into new contracts though...

Benteke would have been very cheap if we acted when he put in a transfer request!

No, no he wouldnt. He still had plenty time left on his deal and Villa were saying they wouldnt sell him for less then a club record. Which was something around 25 for Downing if I recall correctly. So at least 30 mill from a club of our stature..
