Izanagi
Such a bizarre signing. This is either going to be a terrible signing or an incredible one. I'm still convinced Juan Mata is going nowhere but I can understand why people are getting slightly nervous about his future here. I have a suspicion that Manchester United are going reject our third bid for Wayne Rooney only to come back on deadline day and make an offer of a Rooney <> Mata swap. Call it a hunch, I think that's how it will go down. If it came to that I would refuse to let Mata go, sign Eto'o and use him as our backup after Torres and Lukaku. No matter how much people may want Rooney here he is not worth us losing Mata to our biggest title competitor. Guest RFC_CFC
Jose clearly wanted him so we have to trust him. He said Mata isn't leaving so that's the end of that because Jose doesn't go back on his words as far as I can remember. Moses and Ba will be loaned or sold. Teritus
I don't go with this need for more depth, blimey in that position we're about as deep as we could get! I agree, it's the one position that we couldn't conceivably become any stronger in. Edited August 25, 2013 by Teritus

Andreas
Never say never when it comes to Chelsea, and Mourinho. If he wants Rooney really really badly and if he plans to play Willian with Oscar and Hazard then you never know, especially if our 35m offer gets rejected. Izanagi
True, he is easily the most universally liked Chelsea player since Zola. However, look at this from Manchester United's perspective. Manchester United are badly hurting for playmaker and midfield maestro. Juan Mata has seen very little action since the start of the season, and before the window closes people will inevitably start asking questions no matter what the top brass say on the matter. As I said above Juan Mata is loved by our fans and respected deeply by all of our rivals (even if they will not openly admit it), any club in the league would flock like bees to honey if they even suspected that Mata might be appearing on the market. He would be the major signing David Moyes needs, especially after the Fabregas disaster.

Feel a little sorry for Moses had a real good pre season his first for the club and then is almost dumped. Not the best message to send out to our players! I just hope we don't start playing players out of their preferred position just to get names on the park. Example, Mata on the right!
timetowaste
Jose cares about the fans and he knows that almost all Chelsea fans love Mata and would that we would rather see anybody else leave. Also, as Jose said, he wants to add quality, not lose quality and selling Mata would be certainly losing a lot of quality.

bjd
No Do you know that for sure? Do you watch the Russian league on a regular basis then? Sorry if that comes across as facetious , I'd just like to see evidence of a decline, the only thing i can see that may point to it is his age. Yes, he's been a bit of a twat towards us before but he's also been brilliant against us too. Lets not forget we didn't want Ashley Cole either. A few goals and we'll be happy. As a short term stop gap I think it would be an awesome signing and he will improve our centre forward options massively. evissy
I have a horrible feeling that this spells the end for Mata, I hope to god I'm wrong, but it's the feeling I have in the pit of my stomach. He's been out best player over the two season with no competition. I don't think that much has changed over the summer.

We need a reliable striker right now and the club only seems willing to give him a one year deal which supports that reasoning. I think in the summer we'll go back in for Rooney, and Lewandowski will be out of contract. We'll see how our striking situation will be set for up for the future then. But right now, Eto'o could be exactly what we need.

We look nailed on for Willian, Rooney will stay at United without signing a new deal, Bale and possibly Suarez will sign for Real Madrid. Mikel, Moses and possibly Ba will be sold. Thinking Galatasaray, Everton and West Brom respectively.

Well I saw Anzhi in most of the Europa league campaigns over the past 2 years while my flat mate a Celtic fan watches Russian football all the time in here due to that cock McGeady at Spartak. So I'd say from what I have seen of Eto'o that no, no he is not the same player he was when he was in his pomp with Barca and Inter. I'm not denying he aint a great player because he was but from what I have seen he's not carried that forward to his time in Russia, it's my opinion. Rag
Another £30m attacking midfielder, just what the squad was crying out for. I'm glad Jose is working hard getting the most out of the current squad and developing our youth policy. A 32 year old Eto to, to keep Lukaku on the bench even longer would just about top things off.
