Ake is a CB, Mikel is on his way out, Ramires is better in CM than what we have right now, but forever? That leaves just MVG/Chalobah throw De Bruyne and Oscar in there assuming they have developed their defensive responsbility, and it's a quality set of CM options.

I wouldn't want to inhibit KDB and Oscar's natural attacking flair by burdening them with extra defensive responsibility. If we need a natural pivot player, then the club should buy one.

I never mentioned Lampard and Essien. As for Mikel, he is a good enough player.

I think he's an average player.  None of the top teams in Europe (or England) would take him.  Even United fans wouldn't take him and their CM is a joke held together entirely by Carrick.  The point is Ramires the only one assured of a long term future at the moment and there is plenty of room for evolution there.

People in Germany liken De Bruyne to Schwarzenegger, bar the defensive discipline at the moment. Oscar I think loves the combat of midfield and would actually prefer the chance to get on the ball more and influence from deep, and he has the intelligence to go forwards and stay back as required by the team.

Mikel's the best DM we have, he stabilizes the CM and usually does a good job in big games.

I actually, I don't know where the Mikel is on his way out came from, perhaps people have already sold him in their mind, due to paper rumours.

I reckon if he's being sold, he must have been gone by now, and we'd have bought a capable enough replacement for him.

However, he's still our player, until he officially gets sold,

And to someone saying Mikel wouldn't get into Man U's midfield, I think you are having a laugh, perhaps you rate Cleverly over him..another example of overhyped player.

I'd take Mikel over Carrick and Cleverly anyday, no wonder their midfield is played off the park by any average midfield.

They are the current champions so that's obviously not true....

Carrick was arguably the best midfielder in the league last season, lets not forget that.

Mikel has yet to feature so far despite being fit, seeing as a Mata clearly lacking match fitness got a start I think it is telling of his ranking in the midfield pecking order.

Personally I don't think he is going to suit our play style this season and would be surprised to see him get near 15 starts in the league season.

Seeing as he won't really offer much coming off the bench I think if he stays he is going to have to accept a much diminished role in the squad in the squad this season.

Pick out RvP from the team and his goals and then calculate who'd have been the champions instead. Their winning the league is just a testimony of having a great striker and a manager who believes in winning at all costs, not cus they have a great midfield.

It's RVP today, before that it was Rooney, before that it was Ronaldo, and before that it was RVN.  They've done awfully well for being a one man team for the last few decades.  Carrick has been one of the best central midfielders in the league for the past few seasons.  Their problem is they rely on him completely, and his partnership ranges from youth players to a 39 year old Ryan Giggs.  It's anyones guess why they've allowed it for so long.

Well, I don't think that's the case, I know most of Nigerian papers reported he had a stomach bug, just before the last international friendly, which obviously kept him out, don't know the extent, but am sure it might be hasn't featured at all. I guess he's still to hit full fitness. But, I expect him to play a part soon enough.

Looks like they're signing Fellaini too, plus I think Cleverley is slowly developing into a very good player. Zaha/Januzaj promising...

Some talk of Ronaldo holding a desire to return also.

I am yet to see any signs of Cleverley developing into a very good player.

That must be one hell of a stomach bug.

This signing still makes very little sense to me. I know its fun to stuff up Spur's plan, but now we will have 50-60 millions worth of talent sitting on the bench. He hasn't got a great scoring record, won't be the answer to  our scoring problems. Let's hope we dont do some crazy in the next few days to get rid of Mata. Moses is definitely out after this signing, I fear for the future of Lucas too.
