I got 3 but regardless.... Could it be argued that his transfer fee may have been repaid by shirt sales alone?

 

Even if that was the case we are still paying him a very high wage.

Most of the sales are fans who want a shirt and the number is just a bonus type thing. Some percentage of shirt sales will be tourist who will buy a 9 for torres. BUt for the fans it is a case of 'well i'll get a 9 on it for torres' but if chelsea sell him you just decide on a different number as youre always planning on getting a shirt.

Despite all the Monaco stuff we're still odds-on with the only bookies still taking bets on this transfer with Monaco way out at 10/1. When the Falcao/Monaco rumours started last summer they very quickly overtook us in becoming odds-on favourites to sign him.

 

Maybe all this Costa/Monaco stuff was overblown, or maybe we ourselves leaked the Monaco info to keep interest alive in the transfer.

A quick Google shows he was either the 8th or 9th best selling shirt worldwide.

As others have said, its the number 9. With Torres gone and a new big name striker in taking up the vacated number 9 shirt, I can't see shirt sales taking a knock.

I have a shed load of shirts with names and numbers from over the years, but I do not own a Torres shirt. Never really been all that keen on him. When the new striker is signed (depending who it is) I'll probably throw in for their nameset.

He has to deal with JT and Cahill, not an easy task for anyone.

 

If he can make mugs of our defense, only makes his case to be signed that much greater.

People keep saying that about Suarez but I just don't see it. José likes his strikers to play in and around the box all the time when attacking, not crowding the space the attacking midfielder use. Suarez drops into those spaces all the time though, taking up positions our attacking 3 need to use. If anything sturridge is more suited.

Potentially 2 key players of Atletico joining the Chels next year. Just another storyline.

 

That's one thing that puts me off Costa. Diving and getting into trouble. I guess we'll see when game day rolls around.

 

I think its more of a piss & vinegar thing. He is one of those guys you hate to play against but love on your team.

il be pretty gutted if we end up paying falcao/cavani money for him. Surely we would only pay his buy out clause. I cant see athletico demanding the tax from clause if they want courtois next season.

Jesus I hope that's not just the transfer fee, but the positive thing with these articles is that there are a heck of a lot of rumours atm - I reckon we are definitely in with a shout of getting him.

There are a too many websites out there who have regular guys like you or me just making up stories out of thin air and publishung them...
