Azpi is a right back and is miles ahead of Bertrand at left back. I'd keep Ryan as back up but it's clear we are bringing in another player for that position as Jose doesnt seem too keen on Ryan for whatever reason.

It would be a shame if he left while not being given a proper go but at 25 he's not even in the top 5 or 6 left backs in England.

Ryan isn't good enough to be first choice and isn't going to want to spend his whole career as a backup.

I don't know, maybe bring both him and PVA in, who knows one could rise to the occasion. If not we have azpi as an option and the jan window to sort it out. Yeah it's a risk, but one that could pay off and save a lot of money.

Agree about not caring much who comes in now. Azpi playing right back is good enough for me. As long as the guy has a left foot and isn't a CB who's impersonating a left back.

I don't think we should continue playing two players out of position, wich have made our attacking play congested and isolated our AMs/striker in several matches.

Just to give you an idea, I've seen F.Luis do this in several AM games I have watched. With that said I wouldn't mind us buying either of them though.

That's fair. I watch a lot more Bundesliga than La Liga (less boring) so less of a view on Luis' work. I wasn't overly impressed when I did watch. Rodriguez's delivery is almost Baines like. Watch him for the Swiss. Not as solid defensively though.

Azpi as left back is good for defense but this is extremely wasting his overlap ability

As I've said a number of times. Fullbacks under Jose are picked primarily to defend. That's not changing it is the way he wants them to play. The overlap is secondary.

Azpi is a perfect Jose leftback because he defends superbly. Same with Ivan.

Please. Cole is on a downward spiral, he can still do a great job when called upon but he isn't what he used to be as we saw earlier in the season. Azpi is great defensively but offers little going forward. Maxwell isn't that great, he is decent but Luis should have been called up to the Brazil squad instead. Alba is great offensively but can be caught out in defence. Luis is a good signing, he can play at the highest level for another 4 years or so which is good enough. Of course I would have preferred Shaw, Rodriguez or Moreno in the long term but Luis is a good player nonetheless.

Well he should of been called up to the world cup squad this year no way is Maxwell better than him, he nearly got into the 2010 world cup squad aswell if he didn't break his leg. The fact he only has 4 caps again for me doesn't make him a bad player there are plenty of good Brazilian players who dont have alot of caps who should of gotten more at the end of the day its just one mans opinion. Fernandinho is a very good player and he only has 7 caps.

 

I would put Luis in the top 5 leftbacks in the world, guy is strong defensively and good going forward. He is a better defender than pretty much all those players you mentioned on that list, the only problem i have with Luis is his age if he was 25 and £20M i would be all for it.

I wasn't calling out any of these players as being inherently a better signing. But people knocking Shaws experience then saying Luis is a better are simply wrong. If experience and consistency is what you are after Luis is not even close to top notch.

Jack, is he £20 million better than Azpi,Cole or Bertrand? He will be at Chelsea for 3-4 seasons only, is not proven at the highest level and if he does struggle to adapt doesn't have a long career in front of him or a resale value to make a regain on.

Whilst his signing wouldn't be a bad one, I can't get myself excited in anyway for him and would not be happy if the club spent anything over £12-15 million.
