Anyone who thinks danny welbeck is a good signing has not watched him enough, he has a poor touch, poor shot and is a poor finisher, he works hard and has pace..that's it, arsenal will have to break down defences with their passing and he won't be able to do that.

I couldn't care less about age or potential, we've seen enough players that don't meet any future potential, we see players who develop later and come from almost nowhere and we see enough players who peek young and stay at that level. He is 23 and in the last few years I have seen little to no improvement.

United fans I know are so happy they got rid of him for such a high price and spurs fans are delighted they dodged the bullet. He was linked with hull, that says it all for me.

Teams don't have time to try to develop strikers, they are the only position that can't be in the team whilst developing, if they are not getting goals the teams are generally not winning. Arsenal will be lucky to get top four if Falcao takes off and they'll be begging teams to take welbeck off their hands.

Yeah Veeria, I agree that peak is not uniform and all players have different stages of development.

Though I think Welbeck does have some potential for them, especially when playing against the non parked bus teams, something which happens more often for Arsenal than us.

The problem with this signing is that at a title competitive team (what Arsenal want to be), Welbeck should be a back up option like Remy is for us. If any relegation candidate had made this signing, I would have been confident as declaring them as being safe this season.

Sorry this guy could not save wet spam like Tevez did. This guy is still work in progress & isn't the finished article yet.

going pretty OTT here. I don't think you've watched him enough if you're giving him that little credit, either.  :JC_doubledown:

Perhaps a little harsh, but I've lived with a Man U fan and have watched them every time they've been on (other than when cfc are clashing) just shocked at the hype he's been getting, so I guess I over exaggerated to match the exaggerated hype he's been getting.

Arsenal medical staff are amazing, managed to injure a player in a medical...

Just when you think they cant get any weirder :laugh2:

That letter helped me to my quickest ever full house in 'Scouse Bullsh*t Bingo' - every cliche is there! Thanks for the post.

Lfc fans are, errr, deranged.

funny I remember last season the goonie faithful were questioning the physios of le arse - another reason why I don't hate le arse - I only laugh at them - 10 years ago I did hate them though

Liverpool writer forgot to mention how he should expect death threats the minute he wants to leave

and how his house will be burgled when he's playing in Madrid

I haven't hated Arsenal since their unbeaten season. They've just been a joke since then.

I will hate them until the day I die, hate is a very strong word but I do truly hate that club with a passion, the fans, Wenger, the players, and their holier than now attitude.

hey Spud, disappointed on Sunday poor old Spurs just didn't get to grips with them at all. Still 5-0, 4-0, 3-0 is going in the right direction so better luck next time.

I look forward to our 1-0 win in the 2016-17 season...:-)

I dislike them but, even more, I don't understand them. Arsenal are a financial institution more than a football club because the money side of things seems more important than success. Put another way, success for the Gooners equals £25 million for CL qualification.

Robert Peston was on 5 Live last night and he said that Arsenal now need success in the EPL or CL for business reasons as, without some success as a football team, their business model will fail. I don't think that Wenger 'gets' that point. FFP and Arsenal being solvent is great (and, tbh, Utd for example would love to be as solvent as Arsenal) but they are a football team FFS and need to challenge and not just be there or thereabouts.

Exactly and last I checked football is about getting results and winning things not only been bothered about making profits every year.

Arsenal's approach is different to others they seem to have little interest in the expansion of their brand in other markets such as Asia and the US while United, Liverpool, Chelsea and City are all keen to have that international brand exposure.  It seems Arsenal believe that the stadium makes them self-sufficient for eternity.  All they need is top 4 and the cash will keep rolling in, keep on squeezing the season ticket holders and it doesn't matter too much if silverware follows as long as we play attractive football everyone will be happy.

It's an interesting approach in the short term, they've probably still got a decent set up for the longer term but if I were an Arsenal fan I'd find it as frustrating as hell.

As you'll know Spud I'm not at all anti-Spurs and I've no real dislike for Arsenal either. I only really despise the scousers. LOL

^ Yep, it must be frustrating when Arsenal have the financial clout to add to their team and mount a strong challenge for the league title. It may be the case that Wenger thinks the current team can do that or is capable of developing with that goal in mind. He's a very experienced and clever bloke and, if he thinks that, I can't say he's wrong. He'll be very lucky if he turns out to be right tho.

It's funny how we all dislike the same teams but we all seem to hate different teams.

I hate Arsenal, Barca and Liverpool with a passion and dislike a few others like Spurs (sorry Spud - mostly only when we play you tbh always want you to best the Arse) and QPR. United I don't really dislike but I think its because my brother does (and Father did).

Key to survival is taking points off our relegation rivals, insists Van Gaal
September 1, 2014

Following his side’s nil-nil draw with Burnley, Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal has urged his squad to continue taking points off their relegation rivals to ensure their Premier League survival

The Dutchman, who took the helm after Holland’s successful failure to win the World Cup, expressed pleasure at the Red Devil’s refusal to let last years’ promoted sides get away from them in the early Premier League standings.

“Before coming to Old Trafford, I saw from a distance a side that lacked both heart and invention,” he told reporters.

“Now that I am here in person, I see a much more expensive side that lacks both heart and invention.”

“A club like Manchester United must strive to keep it’s head above water against classy workman-like teams assembled for the transfer value of Tom Cleverley.”

“We have our sponsors to think about, which is why remaining in the Premier League is so important. It’s my number one priority this season.”

“And taking a point off Burnley is a massive step in the right direction. It bodes well for the future.”

Manchester United relegation battle

Van Gaal went on to urge patience from Old Trafford season ticket holders concerned at their position in the league table reflecting their level of performance.

“It’s going to take a little time to get to know how to control the referee’s here in the UK, and for rival managers to get to know what bottle of wine is my favourite.”

“Though I am starting Glaswegian lessons next week.’
