September 3, 201411 yr It's only desperate times for them if they are unable to buy those players. The sad thing is they can afford it.
September 3, 201411 yr It's only desperate times for them if they are unable to buy those players. The sad thing is they can afford it. They can but they don't have what we have. A settled manager A strong well balanced squad CL football Make no mistake United are a long way away from being in our kind of shape...while they throw money at panic buys we will supplement our already well functional side. We welcome the chase
September 3, 201411 yr Even with their large sponsorship deals United can't maintain their current spending and still comply with FFP. Falcao, Rooney, RVP and Di Maria are probably the highest paid players in the league by a comfortable margain too.
September 4, 201411 yr Going back to Chrissy Powell - Charlton legend & as others have said, a lovely, top bloke. I was a ball girl at Charlton when I was younger and whilst the mascots got all the attention from the players, he came and spoke to all of us, asking what we thought the score was going to be, where they'd end up that season etc... Little things like that, fantastic person.
September 4, 201411 yr There were reports that United would struggle to spend big again next summer if they don't make the champions league. Not only will they miss out on the champs league revenue and prize money, there sponsorship with adidas will reduce significantly, if they font make top 4 this year. This will be the one year il prefer liverpool and arsenal to finish ahead of United, as denting Uniteds spending power will be beneficial for us in terms of success. Ideally a top 4 this year would be Chelsea City Everton Liverpool/arsenal. Don't mind everton as a football club, although top 4 would be a massive achievement for them.
September 4, 201411 yr Let's wait until we go to Anfield, we'll run them ragged just like we did against their scouse neighbours. Fed up with hearing Liverpool supporters crap; they struggled in their first game at home and they've hardly looked impressive against underwhelming opposition. I thought Spurs would do better, but they were a let down too. I predict we go to Anfield with Remy and Costa toying with their defence with no answer in return. Their defence is sh*t, their attacking quality is overrated (even more so without Suarez) and the added games will catch up to them, but they won't have the quality in depth to cope. 5th place, say hello to Liverpool, Liverpool, say hello to 5th place.
September 4, 201411 yr I would not be so sure as to say, Liverpool won't get in the top four. Of course, it's too early to tell now, but I consider them a better team than Everton or Arsenal.
September 4, 201411 yr I would not be so sure as to say, Liverpool won't get in the top four. Of course, it's too early to tell now, but I consider them a better team than Everton or Arsenal. I'd agree with that for the moment. I think that if/when Arsenal sort themselves out they'll be better than Liverpool overall. But I have to say I thought Liverpool were quite impressive against Spurs. Moreno could be a great signing. However, I just don't see how Balotelli fits into their style. Rodgers likes to play with a lot of fluidity between attack and midfield, Balotelli doesn't move enough off the ball for me. I guess he'll adapt. Ideally a top 4 this year would be Chelsea City Everton Liverpool/arsenal. Don't mind everton as a football club, although top 4 would be a massive achievement for them. Haven't got much of a problem with Everton either. I like how they are a traditional club with decent history but unlike their neighbours don't wallow in it and believe that it entitles them to anything. ManUnited: It doesn't seem like they have thought about FFP much for next season were they to make the top 4. Their turnover is enormous though. It would really interesting to see what would happen if they didn't get top 4. Hasn't Falcao effectively been signed already? I wonder if there's some get out clause in case United don't make the CL. Surely Falcao wants to play at the top level at some point in his career? Not sure if anyone saw last night but Di Maria played an absolute blinder against Germany. 3 assists (one beauty with the outside of his foot) and a cracking goal. Highlights on the BBC website for those interested. Edited September 4, 201411 yr by Celery1989
September 4, 201411 yr 1989, If Arsenal players stay healthy, they may be hovering close to the peak. Nevertheless, that IF asked we all know their midfield is full injury prone players. Everton to me, throws a very questionable defense.
September 4, 201411 yr I can't see Everton getting into the top 4. With us and City probably being 1st or 2nd in either order, I can definitely see 3rd and 4th being Arsenal and Liverpool. Everton and Spurs aren't good enough while Man Utd's formation and defence isn't ready yet. I doubt Man Utd will be able to spend as big next summer if they don't get into the top 4. Adidas put a clause in reducing their sponsorship if Man Utd didn't make it and as another poster said, they'll have no Champions League revenue again. As well as that, all their best players are ageing so will have little sell-on value. Edited September 4, 201411 yr by RichardCFC

September 4, 201411 yr Everton won't get top 4 Not with a central pairing off Jagielka & Distin, they will need a more forceful pair, also Martinez is not a truly defensive manager as his time at Wigan bears this out. Edited September 4, 201411 yr by mbh

September 4, 201411 yr As well as that, all their best players are ageing so will have little sell-on value. Also those players are on mega money that very few clubs can afford, so it would seem they would be stuck with them till there contracts run out. Similar to us with a certain striker. Agree with that Bobby no strength in depth. plus a excursion in Europe will test them to the limit. Edited September 4, 201411 yr by mbh
September 4, 201411 yr I hate the International break Me too gets in the way of real football. Maybe I just say that because I'm English.
September 4, 201411 yr Champions League winners Sir Alex Ferguson and Carlo Ancelotti with a fan. Or put another way steve jobs...bill gates...and alan suger
September 4, 201411 yr Me too gets in the way of real football. Maybe I just say that because I'm English. I'm not English, and I entirely agree with you. Internationals are a waste of time.
September 5, 201411 yr There's really only 1 rival to Chelsea and it's city. We all know the dippers and manure spent massive amounts of money but it's a 2 horse race. Lots of respect for Chelsea as a club and the fans. Love all the fringe teams crying because we have owners not afraid to invest. I'd love to see Chelsea and city share all the trophies this year.
