The one that got away

Imo the main transfer that would have really took the team to another level is Alexis Sanchez.

Awesome footballer. Creative in abundance. Has pace. Great finisher - scores a lot of goals. I've heard the term 'Mourinho player' thrown around a lot and believe me this guy matches it to a tee. His workrate is something else, those of you that were impressed by Chile will have seen this in effect.

Sadly he is now at Arsenal, and i feel he will really improve their team maybe not enough to be title contenders but will sure as hell push them in the right direction.

It's all speculation, I would say it Di Mari, who looks like on his way to PSG.

Here is a guy who could create, able to track back like a wing back, and score decent amount of goals, i know how would cost a fortune, but imagine you get a Mata who could defend.

Getting Aguero instead of Torres.

.

Probably would go down as one of the biggest in our history. I'd also add preferring Shevchenko to a young Torres as a creepy precursor. Without a shadow of a doubt we'd be at least two EPL titles better off.

Other than that, there isn't another player out there that we were genuinely in for that has made us regret not signing them. Maybe Modric?

I can't remember if Ozil was linked to us in 2010 but I really wanted him here especially after missing out on Silva, as well as the club letting go Ballack and Cole. He only cost Madrid around Â£15m as well.

Modric, oh how different things could have been.

On the other side are players where we dodged a bullet, robinho for example.

And I remember when it was a choice of us and Madrid for Royston Drenthe. Phew.

Messi

Sturridge

Neymar

Robben (to this day i wish he never left)

Messi? I don't think any club in the world was ever in for him, lol.

Sturridge and Robben are givens but in the last 15, even 20 years, they are probably the only two players who had left Chelsea for better things. The next closest I can think of is maybe Deschamps, who left us and reached the CL final the next year.

Neymar is an iffy one for me. I'd agree if we didn't sign Hazard. Missing out on both Neymar and Hazard would've been a huge turn of fate for this club, but I feel as long as we got one of them we're all good.

Pirlo.

If we'd have signed him when Carlo took over I reckon we'd have performed much better in his second season at the club when the board sold off half his experienced midfielders.

I think one of the reasons we didn't retain the title was because we lost a lot of depth Belleti, J Cole, Deco, Carvalho & Ballack all left. Had we kept Ballack I think we'd have been far better off.

Letting Sturridge go was a stupid mistake aswell, there's no doubt he should have gotten a chance to lead the line after Drogba left.

As for players we didn't sign I was gutted when we didn't get Robinho but in hindsight it was a blessing.

Think only one that really springs to mind is Aguero, although I wish we'd have gotten ourselves a top striker at the start of last season.

Scary to think what could have been if we'd signed Aguero.

Imo the main transfers we missed out seem to be in the forward department, Aguero, falcao, possibly Lewandowski too - who I rate very highly.

Rvp was available for around 25 mil but the club didn't chance it.

On a general note the club do seem to make the right call. I also feel that Ballack was never replaced.

We all know messi's dream move was to come to chelsea. That is why he deliberately never scored against us. We just couldn't afford him. To this day he still dreams of a move to chelsea.

Sergio Aguero. Even in an injury plagued season still netted 17 times in 23 EPL games and bagged 28 goals in all comps.

Torres can't even count to 28.

Was gutted we didn't complete the double signing of marco delveccio, and Luigi di biagio from roma. I was a massive serie a fan at the time and though those 2 would have pushed us to the title.

Alves was a big one for me. As much as he is a prick (and as much as Ivan has been stellar) he would have taken us to another level attacking-wise when we were really at our peak. It's not a coincidence that Barca really clicked when he signed.

Aguero is another an obvious one, so is Modric.

From a personal perspective I raved and raved  on here about Reus when he was at Gladbach, but we were never really interested and bought Marin instead.

I'm interested to see noone has listed Robinho here. I remember that being such a massive deal at the time. I really do think he would have made a difference for us (people often forget he was quite good at City for the first season and a bit) Not getting that signing put Scolari behind the 8 ball from the beginning.
