Costa isnt top 20 strikers in the world according to these lot?

Featured Replies

Hmm, dont mean to be cynical but your very first post is a link to a podcast you "came across"?

The host was so sure he could name 20 but struggled to think past 5. And 2 of those were Rooney and van Persie. The other guy had to start suggesting others. What a joke.

I don't care if people don't rate costa, don't think hazard will win a ballon D'or or think cortouis is the best GK in the world. If they play well for us that's all that matters individual awards mean nothing.

Didn't click on the link, but i'd only rank the following above Costa right now:

Messi

Aguero

Suarez

Maybe Ibrahimovic, i'd probably rank them about equal.

And actually that is all, so god knows how they got to 20.

I'd swap Ibra and Suarez around but aside from that I can't really argue with those rankings.

Lahm you could put anywhere between #2 and #20 really, impossible to compare defenders with strikers.

if you don't watch costa a lot I can see why some one whouldn't rate him. I didn't. And even now I bet watching him live is a different feel to TV. On TV you can't appriciate  all the work and movement like that the game.

He's not the most graceful of players but neither was van nistilroy,  it doesn't really matter as long as you have a habit of finding the net.

Not effective enough against parked buses I reckon even Drogba did better than him today.

His technical ability and aerial game are behind that of Drogba, even now. It's the intangible stuff that make Costa a better striker than he seems at a glance. His movement and work rate is arguably better than any no.9 in the world right now. But unfortunately that means he does need some space to be at his most effective.

Costa is a striker, who dives into spaces and needs them indeed. When the opponent parks the bus there is no space for him to dive in and then he is just a striker with a lack of much technique. He is perfect in the Champions League, where we often play against teams that want to have posession, and against the better teams in the Premier League, because the team allows itself to lay back and wait for the opponent to come. Against teams like Sunderland an Newcastle however, he has a hard time. Their defence is strong enough to defend him, where Burnley/Leicester are just not good enough to defend him if you ask me.

I like him anyway and he is great counter-striker. Against teams like Sunderland/Newcastle we should start Drogba nevertheless. He has so much control and is able to hold the ball, more like a targetman. Costa isn't a targetman. :)

Yesterday wasn't a parked bus. Not every team we don't score 3 goals against has parked the bus.

C. Ronaldo as well.
