Heard about this at the weekend and thought it was just a rumour, and certainly didn't expect it to happen so soon.

 

Can't quite remember the club discussing buy-back clauses before either. Best of luck to him though and hopefully he continues to get better.

Presumably it will have been agreed in all but name, Bundesliga clubs generally sort out their transfers before the window is even open. It's not entirely unheard of with us either - we were linked (beyond media rumours) to de Bruyne and Zhirkov for literally years before we actually signed them.

So this is sort like a pre-contract agreement where Thorgan will officially sign permanently in the summer.

 

He seemed to be one of the better loan performers and so I'm a little surprised to see him go in truth especially as attacking midfield is an area we could do with more strength in depth... Makes you wonder if we've got a couple of summer moves lined up already much like Costa and Fabregas were?

Well if the OP is correct then we can always bring him back with the clause in the contract.

Like FC I'm a bit surprised as out of the loan boys he was the one who stood out and seemed to be doing the best.

Hopefully though it means we have targets identified in the summer.

Good luck to the lad! I do like hearing that we have a buy-back clause on his new club contract if things turn out well for him over there in Germany.

 

Strange timing but not surprising that this has happened though. I never really thought he was a look in for the current Chelsea squad and due to his obvious connection with Eden I doubt he would have been given a second look by most people.

I'm dIsappointed by this, i thought he was good enough to come back to us and fight for a spot in the first team. Out of all of our on loan players he was the one is was expecting to retur.

Looks a decent player although I think he would struggle to make it here if the likes of schurrle and de bruyne couldn't. Hope we got a good price for him around 10m.

I heard it was done to a tune of 8 million Euros - I hear in Mongengladbach they are partying like it's 1999 - I wish the lad well & hope he can play along side his brother @ Chelsea

Not really. It's about £6.000.000. For someone who is considered to be a potential world class player i would like a bit more for him.

£6 million for someone who has never made a first team appearance and we still have a buy back clause. This is good business.

He's considered to be potentially a world class player by some member of the Shed End, but outside of this forum he's not as it's clearly shown by the price tag he could command.

Think for 6 million we could have held out a bit to see if he fulfiled potential
