Petr Cech to Arsenal

Featured Replies

If he wants to stay in London I'd much rather he went to PSG. Only 2 hours on the Eurostar and much more palatable than Arsenal.

I noticed that Cech sits directly behind Jose. Maybe he might decide to be a Coach. I would love to see Cech showing the youth the proper way to Goalkeep.

What about Manchester United?

If they lose David De Gea to Real Madrid they'll want a quality keeper in his stead, even if said keeper is a stop-gap.

Certainly be more tolerable than Arsenal. Jose hates the Specialist in Failure with a f**king passion, no way will he authorize a deal with Arsenal.

Supposedly Man Utd have had Lloris lined up for a while as a contingency plan should De Gea get poached.

There aren't a huge number of teams (on that level) who will necessarily be looking for a goalkeeper. Barca have just signed ter Stegen and Bravo, PSG have Sirigu, Man Utd have De Gea (etc.) I suppose the key part of that phrase is 'there aren't a huge number of teams on that level' - unless he's willing to take a step down to someone like Monaco, Roma or Liverpool (and there's no reason he should), there are very few teams to choose from, and we have some form of rivalry with most of them, if not quite as deeply-ingrained as our rivalry with Arsenal.

I guess we'll have to keep our fingers crossed that Real plump for Cech over De Gea or that Juventus decide that it's finally time for Buffon to ascend to the footballing heavens.

I wonder if Atletico might be interested; Moya and Oblak are decent but not close to the same level as Cech.

why strenghen a rival? chels would be mental in the face to give them petr, even for £20M

Because he might want to stay in the capital.

I can understand why people wouldn't want him to go to Arsenal because they're a rival whom we play twice a season....so let's send him to PSG who are a rival that we've played twice each of the last two seasons.

Although I understand it's not quite the same - what are the chances of us selling them a player who will have an impact in a game against us? :laugh2:

I think it's more to do with the points contribution that he will give them in the other 36 games as well. Petr won't have the kind of semi-regular horror show we've come to expect from Szczesny, even if he only brings in an extra five points a season, that is a significant amount in a title race. It's certainly not an ideal situation.

I'd much rather he goes abroad, but the man is a true Chelsea legend and a class act to boot. If that's what he wants then he has more than earned it, he certainly won't lose a jot of respect in my eyes. Ultimately nothing he achieves at Arsenal is ever going to top this:

Petr+Cech+FC+Bayern+Muenchen+v+Chelsea+F

I do understand why people are against it and I am being a touch facetious. I'd prefer him to go somewhere like Italy in all honesty but if he wants to go to Arsenal then so long as the fee is correct I'm ok.

And if he did go there then I'd be peppering that box with crosses all day long.

it's not just the 2 games a year he could hurt us playing for arsenal though is it. He could easily earn them an extra 6 points a year.

If he was to go to psg, there would only be a smallish chance we might play him a couple of times.

I appreciate the opinion that cech should be allowed to choose his own destination regardless, but I just think if the boot was on the other foot, and arsenal had a club legend who was no longer first choice, but still one of the world's best, there is no way arsenal, spurs, United, city, or liverpool, would sell them to us.

How would you feel if cech went to arsenal and helped them dominate English football for the next 5-7 years, to the point he will be remembered as an arsenal legend, as much as a chelsea legend?

Selling world class legends to domestic rivals will never sit well with me, and il be disappointed if cech would want to go there.

Oh I don't know about that, Arsenal seem happy enough selling club legends to their rivals who are still first choice!

Oblak might not be at his level yet but he'll get there pretty soon if he keeps developing the way he has been. Can't see them signing Cech to block his development, especially not after paying so much for him in the first place.

Nasri, Toure, Van Persie, Clichey, Adebeyour.

All sold by Arsenal to rival clubs. Sometimes if the timing and money is right you've just got to accept it is for the best. Just like it was with Mata, same would be true for Cech.

I don't want to see him leave but I understand it's very difficult to keep two top goalkeepers happy in the same team. If he is going to leave then I wouldn't care who he joined. He has to do what's best for himself and his family, just like the rest of us.

Cech did say in an interview at the start of the season (Courtois's arrival) that he liked living in London and he is used to being here. It does seem like an Arsenal transfer is foreseeable. (Though none of us want it)

I mean we do have Valdes too... He is a quality keeper, yeah I'd definitely have Cech over him anyday of the week but if you have a keeper like Valdes in your squad full of experience then it's probable he'll take over should De Gea leave.

Think Cech publicly laughed at someone on twitter who asked him to join United as well, so that's out of the question too.   :laugh2:

But Plan A for us: Keep De Gea.

Cech's future is elsewhere.

How much do you think it would take for Real to get De Gea, Mata Beard?

Not much, after this summer he'll have one year left on his contract and we'll risk losing him on a free, as much as I'd wish for us to cash in big if we get the chance it's most likely not going to happen. Lucky to get 20m...

Would honestly rather have him for one more year and have him leave on a free.

Not a bad idea, I remember seeing something about how Dortmund made considerably more money by advancing in the CL and also securing a spot this season than they would have by just selling Lewa.

Anything can happen with Madrid in the picture though.
