Posted April 23, 20159 yr Adam Johnsons been charged http://www.teamtalk.com/premier-league/9818762/Sunderland-winger-Adam-Johnson-charged-with-sex-offences Thoughts?
April 23, 20159 yr You'd think that would be his career over, but in a world where Lee Hughes  was signed up to a club weeks after being released from prison for killing someone with dangerous driving, I just don't know any more.
April 23, 20159 yr Well he's entitled to a fair trial, so best to leave it till then. Sadly it's guilty before the chance to prove innocence in this country when the media are out in force. "I would also remind people that the complainant in this case is entitled to lifelong anonymity under the law. For these reasons, it would be inappropriate for me to comment further." Strange that the victim has lifelong anonymity but the defendant is named before they have been found guilty. Edited April 23, 20159 yr by Chelsbear
April 23, 20159 yr What I initially read was that he met the girl in a nightclub on a night out.  To be charged with "three offences of sexual activity with a child under 16 and one of grooming" suggests it might be more premeditated when he hooked up with the girl and probably more than once.  If that is the case, I lose all sympathy for him and he'll deserve whatever is coming his way.  Think I read he recently become a father, which makes it incredibly upsetting for his partner and child.Â
April 23, 20159 yr Obviously if he's found guilty his life, to a large degree, will be ruined. Â It could even spell curtains for his career, but right now, he is innocent until proven guilty and people should remember that. Â My major thoughts regard comparisons with the way the player and his club have been treated over this and the way John Terry and Chelsea were treated over the racial allegations. Â Chelsea got it in the neck, if you remember, for "standing by their man", when in fact all they did was wait for the outcome of the trial, presuming his innocence until proven otherwise, as is perfectly right. Â Johnson has been playing for Sunderland recently and I see no such condemnation. Â Amazing really, when you consider the sh*t we had to put with. Â Sunderland may not be as newsworthy as Chelsea but they are a large Premiership club and Johnson is an England player, yet one thing we can be sure of, the press won't go after him like they did with Terry. Â Edit: I would suggest that having sex with an underage girl is worse than trash-talking on the pitch but I dare say all the self-righteous moral crusaders and opinion-formers will go relatively easy on him, by virtue of the fact he doesn't represent our club. April 23, 20159 yr What was Johnson thinking? Thinking with his Johnson, playing on the wrong pitch. Knob
April 23, 20159 yr Somewhat relevant factoid: my nan taught Lee Hughes at primary school.  I might be conflating the two stories I still recall from her teaching career, but I seem to remember her telling me that a large spider once found its way into her classroom. In reaction, she shrieked and jumped on the desk, while a young Mr Hughes simply scooped up the spider in his hand, tossed it out of the window, grinned at her and said "there you go, miss".  Obviously if he's found guilty his life, to a large degree, will be ruined.  It could even spell curtains for his career, but right now, he is innocent until proven guilty and people should remember that.  My major thoughts regard comparisons with the way the player and his club have been treated over this and the way John Terry and Chelsea were treated over the racial allegations.  Chelsea got it in the neck, if you remember, for "standing by their man", when in fact all they did was wait for the outcome of the trial, presuming his innocence until proven otherwise, as is perfectly right.  Thoroughly agree with this.
April 23, 20159 yr PS can you imagine that was a chelsea player? The stadium world would be burned downCorrected for you sweetness.
April 23, 20159 yr He's been charged, but there is a current spate of cases being pursued by the CPS that shouldn't be; I hope he has a fair trial in all respects as being charged is not synonymous with guilt.
April 23, 20159 yr disgrace. how much is this vermin paid again?  no excuses at all, even if not convicted should certainly be sacked at the very least.  no smoke without fire and hes on more money than doctors, lawyers etc  get these types out the game i say.
April 23, 20159 yr This issue is complicated, not least because we don't know what is alleged to have happened. It could be as straightforward as an adult male exploiting a child or the incident could result from Johnson thinking the victim older or being told she was older. There's also the sad reality that the victim's story will at some point have a monetary value. I hope he gets a fair trial and that she is respected as a victim but I don't agree with naming the accused at this time, fwiw.
April 23, 20159 yr The Ched Evans incident I hope won't affect this, that court report highlighted some very worrying things about the basis of the case. You're right Spud we don't know the facts and ' no smoke without fire' is what innocents wrongly charged, and sometimes erroneously found guilty, struggle with even when vindicated. We will just have to wait and see.
April 23, 20159 yr I live in the northeast many people have commented on the girl in this case and many know who she is. By all accounts she looks much older than 16, she apparently looks over 20, by all accounts she is absolutely stunning as well. I'm saying all this because he met the girl in a nightclub not outside the school gates, he would have assumed she was over 18 at least. None of this is a defence in court, but it shows how easy it is to fall foul of the law.

Wow. How the law works is a big mystery to you, isn't it?
April 23, 20159 yr  no smoke without fire and hes on more money than doctors, lawyers etc   This is a dangerous opinion to hold. Whilst Adam Johnson may well be guilty, just because someone has been accused of something does not make it true.  For example from the recent news: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3047263/Father-falsely-accused-sexually-abusing-children-drinking-blood-babies-satanic-cult-speaks-horrific-ordeal-time.html Edited April 23, 20159 yr by Zeta Orionis
April 23, 20159 yr Just to add to SP's point. When our girl was teaching, in a certain sector, she could not 'treat' her students at the end of term in case it was deemed 'grooming'. This is the world we now live in. We don't know the facts and will have to wait. There but for the grace and all that.

I think the major difference would be that one incident happened on the pitch whilst another happened in someone's private life.  But you've also brought up a key point in that Johnson is a nothing player at a slightly adjacent to nothing club, whereas JT was England captain, had a far higher personal profile and was at a far higher profile club.  Wow. How the law works is a big mystery to you, isn't it? Â
April 23, 20159 yr doesnt matter IMO what the conditions are, you cant justify a charge of grooming along with the is it 3? other charges being in any league esp the prem.   terry got more egg than what im seeing too for far far farr less  our justice system is on parr with the fa's these days...a lottery essentially and the more money you have the better.
April 23, 20159 yr PS can you imagine that was a chelsea player? The stadium would be burned down  Yes it didn't in 1999 when Rix did something strikingly similar.  Regarding Johnson, cheating on your missus when she's just given birth is the height on scumbag behaviour. Edited April 23, 20159 yr by Blue Daze
