That’s the stickler with me Zola.

I’m all for these people being punished but if Adam Johnston is getting 6 years then so should woman who are guilty of the same crimes. We hear about Teachers bedding their pupils yet they get off with a slap on the wrists and lose their careers…that’s it.

What is the difference between those people and Adam Johnston? To me it’s because it’s a high profile case and he is a male.

The courts and law in this country are hugely sexist when it comes to this kind of crime and it’s getting swept under the carpet. A woman paedophile should be viewed the exact same as a male, anything less is just plain wrong.

I agree with the sexism thing, I am first to note when sexism is in force against us but in these cases women get let off, it's sickening.

What a thoroughly unpleasant situation. I have little else to say other than that I hope the victim can return to normal life and that Johnson can get the help he sorely needs in prison.

It's weird isn't it, a man has sex with a 15 year old girl and it's seen as this awful thin, yet a woman sleeps wth a 15 year old lad and people wil say good on the lad and such. It is a double standard, both should be treated the same.

I think the important thing here is to be thankful that Adam Johnson received a punishment appropriate to his crime. As Mayos said earlier in another thread, claims of sexual abuse/assault (especially originating from vulnerable young people) are often met with indifference by the authorities. Like in Rotherham, for example

He wont get a hard time at in prison. He'll be locked up with other non violent inmates - thieves, fraudsters and such like. He will be out in 2 or 3 years with good behaviour.

Also worth bearing in mind that he pleaded not guilty on all counts to start with - which the courts always hate - and finally pleaded guilty on some of the charges late in the day, having continued playing for months after the case started. That definitely had an impact on his sentencing.

Will serve 2 thirds of sentence and licence on the rest. (4 years prison)

Since it's a sexual conviction he wont be eligible for early release beyond the 2 thirds.

Good riddance should be longer but he will probably be out in a couple of years sadly.

I just read through the Judge's sentencing remarks and I've no doubt that he deserves every year of his sentence.

Thats crazy that she got a suspended sentence, compared to johnson's 6 years.

It is a strange and old fashioned stereotype, even as I'm reading that article, im half thinking, I wouldn't have minded her being my teacher. But abuse is abuse. She took advantage of her position, and manipulated him, she deserves a harsher sentence than johnson.

Thing is it's one rule for one and another for someone else.

A teacher who has sex several times with a 15 year old pupil gets no prison time yet here we have this guy doing 6 years for a lesser 'crime'.

How is that justice?

Let me get this straight: you're up in arms that a female abuser doesn't get punished more harshly, AND you regret that someone like that wasn't around when you were 15? Riiiiiight.

This kind of mindset may be why there is such a huge difference in court sentences.
