Your Best Games Of All Time

Recommended Posts

What are you favourite video games of all time? The criteria for my list is simply amount of time played and enjoyment of playing. Obviously modern games tend to be substantially better objectively but I played some old games an unbelievable amount. List as many as you want.

I only ask because I see articles with the top games of all time and mine never tend to be in there.

My list + the platform I played it on (in a rough order but not definite).

1) Age of Empires: The Rise of Rome (PC)

2) Battle for Middle Earth (PC)

3) Call of Duty Modern Warfare (Wii - yes wii)

4) Total Club Manager 2003/04 (PC)

5) GTA III (PC/PS2)

6) Medal of Honor: Allied Assault (PC)

7) Far Cry 3 (Xbox 360)

8) GTA V (Xbox One)

9) Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (Xbox 360)

10) Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (PC)

11) Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (PC)

12) Far Cry 4 (Xbox One)

13) Mario Kart (Wii/DS/Gameboy)

14) James Bond: Nightfire (PS2)

15) Need for Speed: Most Wanted Original (PC)

Is number 4 the one with Martin O'Neill on the front? AKA the greatest management game of all time?!

It would take me weeks to come up with a proper list but ones that come to mind are Crash Bandicoot/TOCA 2 (Original Playstation), Cel Damage Overdrive (PS2), Fifa 2010/COD:MW/Oblivion/Assassins Creed 2 (360) and I'd probably put Dragon Age Inquisition and FC4(Xbone) in there somewhere.

Yes! I played it for years after, never really got into another management game after it. Still play it occasionally now.

A bit depressing when I googled the player I always used to buy on the game - Reuved Oved. He was 19 and would always become the best player in the world. He is currently without a team after being released by an Israeli team in the fifth tier of their Football League. I got rather attached to him.

It's really hard to work out but I reckon I sunk 1000-3000 hours into Age of Empires the Rise of Rome (mainly online). Genuinely.

Over a long period of time though. Played it single player 2002ish-2007ish and multiplayer 2008ish-2014.

Innit. Totally sent me loopy. The "bathtub" insanity bit still gives me shivers to this day. Never played anything like it.

Can't say I've played a single Zelda game but they're on most people's lists, as well as the game websites' lists.

Myst

The recent Batman Arkham games

Street Fighter 2

Couple of older games, I loved Star Wars in the arcade, flying into the Death Star and all that...graphics look crap now though!

Then on PC brother of an ex gf had tie fighter, that was really good...

another of my old favourites, was footy game 'kick off' on the Atari...loved that one of formations you could pick was called 'lockout', (park the bus' mode in modern language)think there was a ref called Gupta and he was always sending players off so hard to finish games with 10 men...you could get swerve on your shots by moving the joystick...pace of the game was very good...

One more would be the old 'track and field'...get that joystick a wagglin'!

Thought of this after I posted.  Such a great game at the time.  The big Freddy Kruger and Ultimate Warrior based bosses. I actually got mine on Japanese import at first, which was great until you met the final boss and he gave you the choice to fight him or each other...it was all in Japanese.

Also, who ever watched Games Master with Patrick Moore?

Another one I am forgetting the name of right now, but it too was for the mega drive, and was one of the first 3d character games where you got whisked into an alternate universe, and there were demon dogs similar to those in Ghost Busters that chased you about.

Unless I have somehow missed this, WW was only released on Gamecube and Wii, is that right? If it did come out on the DS I would have it!

I have no idea why I wrote Wind Waker. I rushed my list when I wrote it.

I meant Phantom Hourglass, not the greatest Zelda game but I had a lot of fun when I played, great game on a hand held.

Ah yes, I have that. A great little game. I liked how you could customise your boat.

Have you gone back and played the games you loved as a kid? They're all terrible. Nostalgia is best left in the past.

Except Age of Empires. That is timeless.

Forgot a couple of games - Simpsons Hit and Run and the relatively unknown Europa 1400: The Guild. A great strategy life simulator game.
