Facebook last night before the final was a cringe fest. people changing their profile pictures to support Liverpool.

Even saw an Everton fan do it....Can't get my head round that myself.

English football could be heading for its biggest shake-up since the creation of the Premier League in 1992.

The Football League wants to create an extra division with 20 teams in each from 2019-20.

It would mean England had 100 teams in five divisions, up from 92. Currently, there are 24 teams in the Championship, League One and League Two.

The Football League says the move would tackle fixture congestion and boost the finances of its members.

The Premier League and the FA have backed the proposal "in principle".

The current 72 Football League clubs will decide whether they support the move at their annual general meeting in June 2017.

"There are clear benefits for everyone," Football League chief executive Shaun Harvey told BBC Sport.

"It is about taking a step back to try to work out what is best for English football.

"We hope that the Football League taking this first step is the catalyst for future change."

More to follow.

A bit tasteless to be bragging about knocking down walls given their history.

One thing that always bugs me about the reportage of Heysel is the talk of the ground's condition, the fact that fans were kicking holes in perimeter walls to gain entrance to the stadium, as if it was the fault of the stadium and not those doing the kicking.

The league reform proposal 'headlines' seem sensible. I can't fault them tbh (though I need to read the full proposals). It's good to see some common sense being applied to the future of the game.

Totally agree with the proposals, those are the sorts of things that need changing.

There was also in the Sky Sports article (http://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/10288212/english-football-league-faces-revamp-under-radical-proposals) talks of focus beyond after they sort the Football League.

1. A Winter Break

I know this ones a but mixed with folk but I'd welcome it

2. Scrapping FA Cup replays

I also partly agree with scrapping FA Cup replays although I think they should only do so from a certain round.

3. Consideration to be given to moving some rounds of the FA Cup to midweek

Not sure about this one tbh

4. The Future of the Community Shield

I don't know if anyone else agrees but I think they should just scrap it.

The press are terrified of upsetting the Liverpool fans, in case they get the Sun treatment. Note how the Mail tiptoes around the trouble at last night's game (link).

There was no segregation in the end which housed the Sevilla fans

Er, that would be because it was the part of the stadium reserved for the Sevilla fans, and therefore the Liverpool fans shouldn't have been there. The Liverpool fans get into a part of the stadium they aren't supposed to be in, and somehow it's someone else's fault when there's trouble.

I'd rather see the League Cup scrapped than FA Cup replays tbh, or have it restricted to clubs in the Football League to take it off our agenda. There really isn't a need for two domestic cups.

As for the community shield most top leagues have a curtain raiser with a meaningless trophy, don't see much merit in it but don't see much merit in scrapping it either. Looks good in team photos alongside other bits of silverware.

Un-effing-believable. Win the cup and THEN plan the parade.

As much as its fun to make fun of them, I don't think ANY club plans these things AFTER the event.

I can't agree with that, it makes more sense to scrap extra games that aren't needed in the FA Cup than an entire competition.

I just think the League Cup is a bit superfluous, particularly as it was created for clubs in the Football League which Premier League clubs are no longer a part of. There's also something inherently neat about smaller sides taking a bigger side back to their ground or earning a trip to a ground they otherwise wouldn't get to play at. For the clubs that don't want the prospect of a replay clogging up their schedule there's also the incentive to play better in the first place so they win the bloody match.

There's a difference between contingency planning and actually putting the notices up, imo. Or paying thousands for graphics on a bus.

They could at the very least say there are plans in place in the event of them winning the cup.

The FA Cup replays provide vital (as in literally needed for survival) revenue for the small clubs. As annoying as it may be for the larger clubs, it's a price that should be paid for the sake of the wellbeing of English football in general.

I actually preferred the fa cup when it was played out to a finish even if it meant a 2nd, 3rd or 4th replay.

Or do as Chelsea did and say "in the event of Chelsea winning the league, a parade will be held on...." - this gives locals advance notice of the possibility  of disruption without seeming arrogant.
