Pedro

It's coming.

I love it how papers say "Chelsea are confident of beating Arsenal and Liverpool to the signing of Pedro" ... As if Liverpool would bid for him in the first place, let alone Arsenal. Both clubs have the least ambition in the league

Rumours gathering pace now and the quotes from Pedro and Enrique are the usual sort you get when player and manager alike are trying to be diplomatic about their departure.

If this is wrapped up some time next week that would be a quality addition to the squad and might just signal curtains to a short lived career at Chelsea for Cuadrado.

Past his peak lol

Was Lampard past his peak at 28?

Should we sell Cesc too?

Wingers that are predominantly pace have a much lower peak age than centre mids admittedly he is still very good and will be very good for 3 or so more years but doesn't mean he won't lose a yard or two of pace which with his current play style will be detrimental, however that doesn't mean he can't adapt to this and prolong his career like giggs for example who played on for a long long time at top quality but I don't see that happening and think his price will plummet.

But all of this doesn't mean he wouldn't be a good signing it just means we aren't likely to get our money back which with all the youth we farm in and sell on I'm not sure thats a problem for us and I see this signing as a we need someone to fill a gap while we wait for someone top quality (on hazards level) to become available.

Plus we really need the added depth to the AM if we have two injuries in that area in particular Hazard are team is massively weakened

Robben and Ribery are two examples of wingers who in their 30’s still have tons of pace and their games have always relied on it.

Pedro last season looked every bit as quick as he has always done and he’s not suffered any serious injuries which ‘could’ hamper his pace so really it’s not an issue.

I’d imagine we are not buying him in the hope to sell him for a big fee later on…he’s ready made and in his prime years as a footballer. If we get 2 or 3 good seasons out of him then it will be money very well spent. United bought RVP for more than this is rumoured and he delivered them the title…that was a smart transfer…I doubt they are losing sleep over the amount they spent and how much the recouped.

We didn’t buy Cesc to make our money back either, he will be 32ish when his deal is up but already after last season the fee is justified and I doubt anyone is bothered if we make our money back or not.

I don’t see why you are getting caught up in us making money on Pedro tbh.

Fair point, I will counter with he does suffer with a lot of injuries but not sure that is down to his age

He has less injurys now then when he was 21 - 25, the firs time with he was almost made of glass, the ex bayarn doctor found some way to keep him fit.

28 in a couple of weeks so not young and past his peak so no resale value

Players peak at 27-31.

He isnt 28, yet.... so on a 4 year deal he would end the season as a 31 year old, assuming he was to stay for the duration. We could potentially get his best years.

For the record I am not saying this is a bad transfer i think it adds depth at a decent value.

I just don't get the massive hype about this transfer. It seems the lack of activity has got everyone in a frenzy over an ok signing.

Yes he will add to our squad and make it slightly stronger, but I am not even sure he will be a first team regular but i rate oscar and willian higher than most people do on here, and I really don't think he will make the same impact as Cesc or RVP did in their respective season (if this transfer happens I would love to be proved wrong), and I'm not getting hung up on his price i actually think its quite fair especially in a market were sterling is 50million.

That’s fair enough.

I think he’s a far better footballer than Willian though, I think he has good work rate but his end product is night and day compared to Willian.

I’d like to see Willian moved central as he’s not a very good winger but when played central he looks far more dangerous and seems to look a bit more assured than when on the right. It would also give Oscar a wee kick that he needs to keep up his form instead of tailing off after Christmas.

If this happens I expect Pedro to make the right hand side his own, there is a reason he was a big part of one of the best sides of the past 20 odd years. He has talent and I hope he gets to showcase it at the bridge.

We already have a winger with bags of pace in Juan Cuadrado. It would appear that pace isn't everything.

Indeed but Pedro is hardly just pace, his time at Barcelona shows how good he is with the ball at his feet.

Just because a pacey winger failed does not mean they all will, Pedro is of much a higher standard than Cuadrado IMO.

Yeah I too think Pedro is a better footballer (and much better than Cuadrado) but think Willian offers more to the team so would hope to see Willian in the big games and Pedro in the games we would struggle to break the team down.

Plus the added bonus of being able to rotate Oscar, Willian and Pedro would prevent any tiredness which was definitely showing in January.
