Very under the radar indeed, there seems to be some genuine interest in him too. He's a very attacking fullback with potential according to this Brazilian expert on twitter. He was in the team of the season too..

 

PSG apparently also showing interest. I think he was second choice to Baba Rahman, they may be asking too much for him, only speculation.

Years ago I think we would have paid through the nose for Baba without a second thought.

Im glad we are leaving ourselves with other options when the price is too steep. Telles reminds me of Bosingwa, whether thats good or bad....

Usually Youtube is supposed to show the better highlights of a player, but from what I garnered from that video, it seems he's prone to concentration errors and almost rushes in to tackles, it also seems like his decision making can be questionable as seen from 1:59. Again at 2:00, Gokhan Tore gets the better of him with a simple move, it also seems he lacks strength 2:50. I suppose for positives, he has good feet as evidenced by 1:28. 

 

He's a very colorful player. I've never watched him play, and that criticism is from that youtube video alone.

 

If we want to sign a left back from the turkish league, Caner Erkin would be a great option I think.

I think you were correct in reserving your judgement, but you're right. A poor man's Luis essentially. 

 

What I like about Baba is that he's tenacious and aggressive -- a good characteristic for the PL I think, this Telles character is the complete opposite of that (from what I saw from that Youtube video anyway), he was outmuscled easily off the ball several times and it almost seems he lacks a commitment to the cause. Basically, his commitment is almost half-assed as it seems like it's lacking, I don't know what it's lacking but it's lacking in something. 

 

Hopefully we stop messing around and just sign Baba, I'd hate to see us waste more money on "colourful" characters.

David Luiz and Bosingwa, otherwise known as the chuckle brothers was great to watch for comedy. 

I like the guy, not seen him anywhere enough to have a proper opinion on him I just like his all guns blazing attacking style. 

 

Roberto Carlos heaped praise on him, not a bad reference to have on your CV as a young player.

Potentially a very good player but the cynic in me says this rumour has more to do with getting Baba slightly cheaper then actually going after Telles. Maybe I'll be proven wrong

Would this fella even qualify for a work permit? 

 

With the new season less than 2 weeks away it doesn't seem the best idea to be going into a new campaign with no fullback cover in the entire squad. 

 

Imagine Dave or Ivan getting an injury in the opening weekend. We'd be looking at Zouma or (Christ help us) Cuadrado playing at fullback potentially. Not ideal. 

All these rumours though lol. Ridiculous time of the season.

Have to say this was my first thought too. Maybe showing Augsburg that we have an alternative as they are likely playing hardball over Baba Rahman. This guy does appear to have the best characteristics of a Brazilian left-back with all the weaknesses. Not sure he's a Mourinho-type player at all.

This is probably just a ploy to get some leverage on the Baba Rahman deal. I still think that will go through, the difference in valuation seems to be only a few million. If that's the case then I'm sure it will happen. It's not like Stones where the difference seems to be much greater.
