September 8, 201510 yr No, Oscar does not stop us leaking goals. He does stop Chelsea leaking goals.... Watch Oscar's placement when he plays. For a kid that young, he is the most tactical player on this side outside of potentially JT. The guys in the middle have never been fast; Jt, cahill, matic and cesc. People wonder why Jose puts Dave as lb, its essentially to cover for JT's lack of speed and Hazard's attacking forwardness... Oscar saves matic/cesc/jt/cahill because he presses like a dog, wins the ball like a dog, so the opportunity for the opponents to get 1v1s against these slow turtles is limited because of oscar pressing and ball retention. Oscar is the one that helps the cms and the cbs and adds another body. Chelsea midfield has looked terrible since Oscar left and both Matic/Cesc have yet to play a good game this season... You don't understand what Oscar brings until he's gone. Oscar is the key for the Chelsea revive. Edited September 8, 201510 yr by Eligius
September 8, 201510 yr I have both Oscar and Willian in my dream team oh which i need to replace one and i have no clue who to replace, is oscar going to be playing once back from injury now that pedro is in the squad? Which is the safest player to keep in the team? Do you get credit for theoretical workrate?

You don't understand what Oscar brings until he's gone. Oscar is the key for the Chelsea revive. Of course his replacement in the midfield, which has either been Willian or Ramires, don't do much running or press the ball much, they are both known for their laziness and lack of stamina and pace.
September 8, 201510 yr Of course his replacement in the midfield, which has either been Willian or Ramires, don't do much running or press the ball much, they are both known for their laziness and lack of stamina and pace. Ramires has rarely or ever played in the hole and Willian has speed and stamina, but does not press like Oscar does. Pressing isn't only about being fast, watch Barcelona during the Pep era. Xavi, iniesta nor busquets are fast midfielders, but they were the best pressing team in the world for many years and won back the ball all the time....Oscar tactical sense allows his pressing to be effective and destructive to the opposite team. RDM knew this as did Jose as did Menedez/scolari/mano. Oscar sacrificied his offensively ability the same way rakitic sacrificied his offensively ability for Barcelona this season, so the team as a whole would be more effective and his teammates would prosper. Playing a team game isn't about individuals, it's about how well the team can play effectively as well as produce results... Best Chelsea has looked all season was the first game when Oscar played until he got subbed out against probably the second best team we faced so far and probably one of the best midfields in EPL. September 8, 201510 yr A problem with Willian and especially Ramires is that they don't offer the same attacking ability as Oscar even if they compensate defensively.
September 9, 201510 yr I agree with eligius. Willian has tremendous work rate and clever going forwards but doesn't do may assists or score much, in fact his goal per shot rate is awful. But he has loads skill and heart and great team players Ramires is more box2box but doesn't have the class or range of passing, he is great bombing forward tho and will tackle, but actually he can be a bit of a liability as gives away lots silly fouls.as his pressing is a bit over zealous But tbh he can score a great goal in a big game. Oscar has the best of both Willian and Rambo and has the 360 degree intelligence to be where the team need him to be, he can press and intercept and he can link the play anywhere last third. He also has good scoring and assist record. I have always been big fan so maybe a tad biased but tbh over past 2 years he has played when we have been at our best and this season we look a bit jaded and lacking in ideas. If he is fit I would bring him straight in against the toffees
September 12, 201510 yr 12 goals in 5 games. 37 goals in 38 games last season... Oscar contributes to our defence but I'm not sure this is the right topic for that post.
September 12, 201510 yr Oscar pressing and defense allowed for the team to work effectively. Most of chances in the first half of the season when Chelsea was playing well was due to oscar retaining possession and hazard/cesc doing their magic. Now, without Oscar the team doesn't press effectively and guys in the middle are all getting exposed because of the increased in opportunities opponents have now against Chelsea. Guys like cahill, terry or ivan where never fast to begin with nor were cesc or matic. Last year, oscar covered the middle so well that they were rarely exposed, however, this season, you can see how slow they are without Oscar.
September 14, 201510 yr This season is going to be his season, we need him to recover as soon as possible.
September 15, 201510 yr Shows you how poor we have been if we are apparently missing Oscar. ... Or shows how undervalued he is when he does play.
September 15, 201510 yr Shows you how poor we have been if we are apparently missing Oscar. How easy dumb fans forget Oscar is usually the best player on Chelsea from the beginning of the season till january... Edited September 15, 201510 yr by Eligius
September 15, 201510 yr I know its naive to say that the absence of one player has caused us to drop down to the level of Sunderland but the reality is Oscar is integral to a fluid and strong CFC. He offers everything we are missing at the moment which is Energy, Movement, link between the midfield and attack and finally set pieces. (If I had a penny for every time Fabregas hit the first man from a corner I couldve funded the Pogba move in the summer). I just hope he is back for the Arsenal game as we really need some inspiration from somewhere
September 15, 201510 yr How easy dumb fans forget Oscar is usually the best player on Chelsea from the beginning of the season till january... No i haven't forgotten but Oscar at his best is still hardly breath taking.
September 15, 201510 yr This had turned into a thread of great cliches!! Love Oscar on his day but have put in plenty of posts on how inconsistent he is and I'm really not convinced that him returning will suddenly make us look like world-beaters again. But I'm looking forward to his return and seeing something different and will be happy to be proved wrong.

It's generally accepted that our form as a team dropped in January which coincided with a loss of form from Oscar. A fit and in form Oscar, in my opinion, is key to getting the team back on track.

September 15, 201510 yr I agree to an extent but am still not convinced it will be as simple as that. I guess we'll soon find out - here's hoping............................. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying as soon as he is back in the team we'll instantly improve but it will be a big step. Fabregas and Willian, being blunt about it, have been sh*t in the #10 role this season. Oscar links up well with Fabregas and Costa and he might be able to help with pulling them out of their slump too.
September 15, 201510 yr I don't expect 2 goals and 3 assist from him, but I believe he will add dynamics to our team even when he's not at his best. He will link up with the striker, run at defenders in the final third, shoot when sees the chance, press the opposition defender or deep midfielder, and track back when required.
September 16, 201510 yr can't wait to see the brazilian baby faced assassin back, god how i've missed seeing him in the team.
