I don't think lesblues is dismissing him, at least it didn't come across that way to me. He's expressing a valid concern. To have that many goals in that many games and have no assits at all (I have not checked this, just assuming lesblues is correct) is quite bizzare for an attacking midfielder, if he was a striker then no problem.

Never seen the guy play though, he could be creating chances on a regular basis but his team aren't putting them away. Find it hard to imagine that a player who finds himself in so many goal scoring oppoutunites hasn't once set up others.

Having him and Pedro would make us quite clinical on the counter. Quite like the idea mentioned of sticking him upfront.

What's wrong with that post? Seems like a reasonable question to me.

a) How many goals have we had from midfield open play since Lampard left? Last season we said that if Costa's goals dry up we would have a problem and low and behold... we have a problem, so me personally I don't see goals as a bad thing

b) To say he has 0 assists is absolutely ludicrous?? it means your so lazy you can't even be bothered to go watch a you tube compilation?!?

c) even is he had 0 assists so what, you realize football is not made up of simply the assist and the goal players like modric and iniesta have relatively poor output in terms of number but they are some of the most important players for their respective clubs

d) if we are to be wary of singing some one because the key element of their game may stutter and stop, maybe we shouldn't sign any one ever again? (Again, this point is minor because points a to c pretty much cover it for me

And lastly, regarding this weaker league stuff, I think it's about time we got our head out of our asses on this one, it now seems arrogant to be saying this. The golden years of the 2003/4 to 2010 really are over. We won the CL as an anomaly, in 2012, almost like fait paying us back for every year we actually had a claim at being the best team in Europe and got screwed! but we weren't the best team in Europe not really, to believe that is to be as deluded as the scourers in 2005 when they believed they where all while finishing a full 30 points of the top.

Since then English teams haven't really got close. it says something that 3/4 teams our still struggling to get out of their groups and city really haven't set the world alight. There is every chance that Kiev go through top of the group in a few weeks, Zenit saw to us a few years ago. So I for one am not going to buy in to the "stronger leage" bull. Different yes, I'll even accept that the delta between teams is much smaller in the prem then other leagues but it doesn't make us stronger.

Would he be a success, I don't know, but I wouldn't rule him out for any reason above

i think les blues made a fair point tbh. i understand he's a good goal scorer, but what has his assist stats been over the last 2-3 seasons? however, i don't think douglas costa had that great of an assist/goal stats, but so far he's proven to be a success. i suppose he's worth a gamble. i hear shakhtar's scout in brazil used to work for porto.

1.07 - looks like an assist to me.

Generally players that don't take corners or free kicks have slightly lower assist numbers

Thanks Remodez. I haven't seen anywhere I dismissed or said he is a mediocre player ( some just love making conclusions on your behalf). I was asking if his goals alone are what is people clamor for his signing?. Because as a midfielder was a expecting an assist or two from him. Fair play, I haven't watched him play but I did catch a repeat of yst's match vs madrid (he wasn't in it before madrid took feet off the pedal) and watched his youtube highlights and in my opinion unless we are looking to change system to where the no10 is a trequartista or a second striker, we won't see him at his best and of course he won't always score.

15/16 season

23 apps, 21 goals and 5 assists

14/15 season

37 apps, 22 goals, 4 assists

13/14 season

40 apps, 9 goals, 5 assists

12/13 season

41 apps, 16 goals, 4 assists

This data was from this site:

He seems like a goal scorer and not so much a creative midfielder. If he is a striker, then by all means why not go for him as a back up to costa or a replacement for him. He seems to have good goal stats and he would cost around 30 million which is going rate for a striker these days.

Not to contradict you enigma as I think we're both saying the same thing. I checked his stats via whoscored (www.whoscored.com/Players/40748), it states he's an attacking mildfielder who scores goals. If we are to sign him as a AM (and given how we play our AMs) I don't think he would pull near those figures for us. But if as a second striker or even as 9 then by all means we should go ahead.

I wasn't questioning his ability based on stats, I even said I've never seen him play, I was just questioning how an attacking midfielder with that many goals can have zero assists. It's just something that doesn't happen.

And you don't need to convince me about the weaker league bollocks, I've been saying it for a while now.

The stats posted by engima make far more sense, more in line with, supposedly, the type of player he is. Doesn't change my opinion either way though, would still take a chance and sign him regardless but it makes for better reading.

I think it depends on whether Mourinho will play him as a striker as I don't think there is room for another attacking midfielder as things stand.

Never seen him play, but he was a beast on football manager a few years ago. I think it was 2008!

So , this means 0 assists?

15/16 season

23 apps, 21 goals and 5 assists

That's very confusing.

Well a goal scoring CAM would help address our lack of goals upfront and would also likely help create space for the other attackers with their threat.

I also feel that we are too over loaded with passer/player maker/creative mids/attackers and could do with another goal threat such as Lampard provided. Especially when the main goal threat is out of form.

What are our goals from midfield like so far?

Hazard has 0, oscar has 2, willian 6 (all his free kicks). Pedro I think has 2, one in league cup. That be our output from attacking midfield I think. Pretty awful.

Sounds like we're moving early to secure him. Good news.

Bad news is that Donesk are digging in about a January transfer.

These guys normally have minimum fee clauses. Not sure what his is but if we really want him in January we can make it happen.
