January 31, 201610 yr We've faced bankruptcy, we were bought by an owner with resources beyond our wildest dreams. We've sacked managers, hired interim managers. We've signed great players, we've signed terrible players. We've spent millions, we've received millions. We've taken on loans, we've given them out. We've been world beaters, we've been atrocious. Our board is a merry-go-round and we've been slated by everyone for one thing or another. We've won everything there is and we've all been on this emotional roller coaster together. Together? That's us, the fans. And JT. No one else. That's the bond, no one has been the solid foundation of this club in that length of time along with the fans. He has always been our voice on the pitch, no one can replace that. No one will see that much of a change at this club ever again. I would have loved for him to lead the first team out at the new stadium. That'sa lovely sentiment Gem. One if the best posts I've read in a long time. I'm not upset by the clubs move but it is a bit of a risky one. He leaves an awful hole right now. Zouma and Cahill don't inspire confidence and we could yet face a transfer ban meaning we couldn't recruit a replacement. I do think if a worthy replacement is found it could be a good thing, allowing us to play a bit more progressively and push higher up the pitch without worrying about JTs lack of pace in behind. But that is a big if with no CL football.
January 31, 201610 yr I don't have many opportunities to go to games and such, but does anyone have any ideas if there's anything that can be done to voice massive disgust and anger over some of the actions the club has taken in regards to recent memory, back from the Lampard treatment to this. Supposedly we have freedom of speech in this country, you could write to the club. You could also make a Freedom Of Information request.
January 31, 201610 yr I cant help but feel not only in the decision a bad one but the timing is atrocious. Unless we already have the CB we know is going to step into his shoes next year lined up, it significantly weakens our negotiating position. We are literally letting our first choice CB leave the club on a free. Yes, Zouma is progressing nicely and is the future but it was only a few days ago we were hearing that Cahill wanted out the club due to a lack of opportunities. Foolish decision, foolish timing. This compounded with the Jose Sacking, and the strange buying practices, Falcao, Djiloboji, Cuadrado, and the sales of some of our brightest talents show that this club is being run by f**king muppets.
January 31, 201610 yr His mere presence around the club is worthy of another year. Not happy in Hemel.

Zouma et al would benefit from JT, have the powers that be no understanding of transition planning?
January 31, 201610 yr JT himself has said he wanted to know his contract situation in January. The board would probably have taken the cowards way out otherwise and left it till the season had finished. Fair enough, I wasn't aware of that. Makes sense from JT's point of view. Given that he still wants to play, it is obviously important for him to know. Still, this comes at a time when the club is in its darkest hour for a long time; this is no time to get rid of your stalwart leader!
January 31, 201610 yr Zouma et al would benefit from JT, have the powers that be no understanding of transition planning? No. Which is why we currently have 3 strikers, all injury prone and in the same age bracket fighting over a single striking position. A much better option IMO would have to allow Lukaku to develop under Costa with someone like Drogba last season and then Bamford this. Showing a clear developmental transition and clear pathway to the first team. The same thing happened with Lampard, who if memory serves played 40 games for us in his last season
January 31, 201610 yr Totally f##king disgusted with this decision u dont treat club legends like this...utd kept giggs Everton still got duncan ferguson probarbly loads more examples of clubs being loyal to their legends but oh no not us we f##k them off out without a thanks or kiss me arse!!!! Sturridge being sold to Liverpool. Yes, he was injury prone but who knows how he would have turned out had he stayed with us. He was looking like he was going to turn into a top quality player. If he could stay fit i am sure he would be Liverpool's most important player right now. Di Matteo, fired less than half a season after winning the one competition Roman Abramovich wanted. Benitez, bringing him in was a massive kick in the teeth to the fans. The guy couldn't even apologise for the comments he made about the fans. He never liked us and we never liked him, the club let him use us so he could try and rebuild his career. They gave no thought to what the fans wanted. Mata, our 2 times player of the season and one of the fan favourites, sold to United, one of our biggest rivals in the league. Lampard. At first, i was annoyed with Lampard, i thought he was offered a new deal here and he rejected it and signed for City. With the way the club makes their decision's now though i am sure he wasn't offered a new deal at all and was left to join City. Cech, sold to Arsenal, a club the fans cannot stand one bit. A rival and enemy of the club. Terry, no new contract after spending over 20 years at the club. A player who understands what it means to be part of Chelsea just waved away like he is nothing. This has all happened in the last 4 years, you wouldn't see this at any other club.
January 31, 201610 yr Jesus when you put it in all one post, Scott.. Christ. You could probably add Mourinho to that list too.
January 31, 201610 yr Bonkers decision not to keep ihim on. He's worth his place in the team and is the leader every team and club needs. You have to assume the club have the next manager in place and he wants to build a team without JT. As JT says in his statement, the new manager might yet take a different view come the summer but you'd expect JT to have sorted out a deal elsewhere before then.
January 31, 201610 yr Jesus when you put it in all one post, Scott.. Christ. You could probably add Mourinho to that list too. EXACTLY .....
January 31, 201610 yr Who the f**k makes these decisions, we are turning into an absolute joke of a club.

How have the club treated him badly ? This day was always going to happen ..do any of us want a 42 year old JT playing at the back ? No ...is he the player he was 3 years ago?........No. Old father time has drained him of reaction and speed (not that he was overly blessed with this at any point). We all know he is going at the end of the season so we all have a chance to show our appreciation up to his last game for us. IF we were told this after the last game then yes I agree the club would be massively at fault. I am sure JT will go into management so the next couple of years will be the right time to try different challenges in other countries and provide him with time out from Chelsea. It will freshen up his thinking and once out of the boiler room can maybe see from the outside looking in what is going wrong and what he can do to make it right. We should take the time now to enjoy and applaud the finest and most successful Chelsea youth product ever who has given us 18 years top draw service. Revel in the fact that in a few years time our grandchildren will ask " what was JT like " ......as we all get misty eyed and tell them he was Chelsea ............ The most successful Captain in our History who has lifted every major Trophy worth winning. A player we all identify with and a Chelsea Champion we will never forget.....
January 31, 201610 yr JT MUST STAY banners out in force for the Man U game.Lets show them what we all think of their bollocks decision.
January 31, 201610 yr I'm a JT fan, but if any of us owned the club would you pay someone £10 mil ( or whatever ) a year just because they're a legend.
January 31, 201610 yr Once again this club makes an unbelievable decision !! Just shows what a joke we have become..No loyalty,no respect and no class. JT is more about Chelsea than the whole f###ing board put together - he loves the club as we do..He has been playing well this season and what is his reward for playing with his heart on his sleeve and leading the team for all these years - the exit door ??? Makes me so f###ing angry to see this bunch of muppets on the board making sh*t decisions all the time - not for the good of the club but for themselves...I reckon Abromovich is surrounding by a load of twats giving him bulls##t ...Emanelo is becoming more of an influence and becoming too power crazy and what do the yanks know about our game and our club. We are never going to win as much again without an English spine to the team and strong leaders and the way its going we will soon have neither. Gutted by the news today doesnt begin to describe how I feel ... I think its time us fans, the only ones who care about the club, should let our feelings about the board be known - LETS HAVE A REVOLUTION !!!! ... Seriously, though,I hope the fans going wednesday give the board and the Ruskie the sh*t they deserve. Dont understand how the board think they are right about this when the fans and all the real football people interviewed on SkySports dont agree with what this club have done now. F##K the board
January 31, 201610 yr Another legend goes, last one on the current squad. He's the leader, without him I don't know who will take charge. I'm predicting another bad "rebuilding?" season. Does anyone know exactly reason why he will be leaving? Is Stones possible over the summer? Edited January 31, 201610 yr by Michael440
January 31, 201610 yr I'm a JT fan, but if any of us owned the club would you pay someone £10 mil ( or whatever ) a year just because they're a legend. Smart management would recognise and capitalise on his considerable skill set, on and off and beyond the pitch. This disposable society of ours is a disgrace. What better person to have in a pivotal role at the club than one who has risen, and with success, through the club.
January 31, 201610 yr I'm a JT fan, but if any of us owned the club would you pay someone £10 mil ( or whatever ) a year just because they're a legend. I doubt he makes £10m a year, and even so I imagine he would of been willing to take a pay cut and accept less playing time to stay at Chelsea. From the sounds of it, to me it seems like it was the club who decided to part ways, and did not even enter into contract negotiations -- just outright told him he is not in their plans at this moment in time, but this may change with the new manager coming in. That's shambolic. It's as if there is no room for sentiment anymore. I know Chelsea is a business, but it's also a football club first and foremost. And besides the sentiment, JT still has A LOT to offer. Not to be purposely provocatory here, but you look at the way Man Utd have run and treated their legends, and look at us. Tell me you don't see the difference?

Does anyone know exactly reason why he will be leaving? Is Stones possible over the summer? Wild rumour, his support of Jose; lesser rumour he was told no further contract possibly due to age etc.
January 31, 201610 yr People can say whatever they want about JT, call him racist, a scumbag all you want. He is and always will be my idol! My favourite Chelsea player who is loyal to a fault. The best Defender in England the last 10 years easy! Enjoy lifting that premier league trophy last year big man...nobody deserves it more. KTBFFH!!!!?
January 31, 201610 yr I'm a JT fan, but if any of us owned the club would you pay someone £10 mil ( or whatever ) a year just because they're a legend. Perfect example is Iva, does Iva deserve a new contract on his performances this year, no way. Terry has been much better this season, has struggled at times but has put a foot wrong recently. If Iva gets a new contract then Terry does based on performances this year.

This has all happened in the last 4 years, you wouldn't see this at any other club. Don't forget sacking Mourinho, then referring to him as the individual. Sacking Carlo in a corridor in Goodison park, the season after winning the double. Sacking Ray Wilkins while he was watching the youth team play. And now this, telling JT's agent over the phone that's he's not getting a new contract. I guess playing almost 700 times for the club means f**k all to the board. Edited January 31, 201610 yr by Adam
January 31, 201610 yr This won't be a popular opinion but the club had to move on eventually. Sentiment aside I think the timing is right, I'd rather JT moved on than be relegated to 'squad player' next season. Simply irreplaceable. Captain, leader, legend ad infinitum. Edited January 31, 201610 yr by the special one
