John Terry to leave Chelsea at end of the season.

All I can say is Martin Keown is a classless tw*t and pure scum, gooners must be proud, judges Terry as person despite the fact that he's never played with him, what an idiot. The likes of Carragher can be proffesional, but it's evident Keown doesn't know how to be.

Its shocking and depressing to be honest, but this was going to happen sooner or later.

The glimmer of hope we have is that the 'new' manger coming in will see through the BS and understand the REAL value of JT being part of the squad, perhaps not playing day in day out but for him to be part of the squad is CRITICAL Our spine has been shattered of the years; can we at least keep ONE vertebrae!?!

CAPTAIN, LEADER, LEGEND.... FOREVER!

our board is a mess, dunno their ass from their elbow. so out of touch with the fans it's mental. it feels like they're making decisions deliberately to wind the fans up.

The guy couldn't look past the whole Arsenal and Chelsea rivalry, pathetic really.

A lot of people say he will go to America, but he's still way better than that. Terry could still easily go and play for a top side in France, Germany, Spain or Italy and be successful.

Every single club in the world would still take Terry, he may not get into every teams first 11, but he would easily get into the majority and he would also easily make any team's bench in the world.

It just makes it look even more crazy that we want to get rid of him. It's bad enough that we are getting rid of player that loves Chelsea more than any player we have had for a very long time, or a player that has given everything to this club, but we are also getting rid of a player that is still a very good footballer, it's madness.

This decision is all about business, it has nothing to do with football, if it had anything to do with football then we would be letting Terry decide when he wants to call it a day at the club.

Roma, AC Milan, Man United, Liverpool, Inter Milan, Barcelona, all of these clubs have let their legends finish their careers at the club in recent years, but we are different it seems, we don't allow our legends to retire here, we just tell them they are not getting a new contract and let them finish their careers somewhere else. Honestly, could anyone see any of the clubs i listed telling their legends that they wouldn't be offered a new contract because they were no longer needed ? not a chance.

I can't even remember the last time i seen a Chelsea legend finish their career at the club or had a testimonial after to be honest. I'm not even sure it's happened in my time as a fan.

The self destruction continues.

It's almost a relief because you don't want JT associated with this period, you don't want to remember him playing to salvage the apathy of the gutless mercenaries our pathetic board assembled at this club. The same board of puppets who sent one of the biggest clowns I've ever seen at a top position in the sport to call the greatest manager this club will ever have a random individual. The same group of mediocre ex footballers and clueless businessmen that are ruining, gradually, what was built in the last 15 years. Why is anyone surprised by the treatment John Terry got here? This is Chelsea FC right now, soulless and directionless.

John Terry is still our best CB, easily. John Terry is our only real leader. John Terry is the only real piece of loyalty and affection left between the fanbase and the club. This decision is nonsensical, stupid, lacks any understanding of the game, exactly what you can expect from the people running this club in the last few months. Straight from the head, impulsiveness, short-term throw and try everything in the desperate hope that something works type decisions. To the complete incompetent body. To the careless legs, who pick and choose for who and when to work properly.

JT is the best captain I've ever seen, the greatest defender of his generation and an irreplaceable personality. It was the club's privilege to have one of the game's all time greats give everything for this badge. If this is really his last season in a Chelsea shirt (because even now it's hard to believe and digest the stupidity of the decisions here), at least it gives the fans an opportunity to thank him properly. I hope for him that he goes to a competitive club in Europe because he still got plenty to offer at the highest level.

TERRY ON CHELSEA EXIT - FULL TRANSCRIPT

To be honest, I was in last week before the Arsenal game [i knew] it's not going to be extended.

It's my last run in the FA Cup so I want to make it a good one. It's a big season for me and I want to push on - not just in this competition but in the Premier League as well. I knew before the Arsenal game so mentally I've kind of accepted it. We just have to move on.

They said that when the new manager comes in, things might change. It's a no at the minute. I needed to know now like I have done every January and sometimes it takes a couple of months to get done.

Unfortunately it was a no. It's not going to be a fairytale ending, I'm not going to retire at Chelsea. It's going to be elsewhere, which it took me a couple of days to get over.

But like I say, I knew before the Arsenal game and my performance isn't going to change - the way I train, what I give for the club.

I want to give everything and finish on a high, on 100 per cent good terms with the club.

We spoke about my legacy and coming back to the club when I finish. The most important thing now is to get us up the league.

I didn't feel as though I was playing great in the first four or five games of the season, like everyone in the team, and the performances showed that.

But since then myself and everyone else has picked up back to where we are.

All I can do is keep my head down and plug on because it'll be my last year at the club.

The club will move on. No player is ever bigger than the club. Ideally I would have loved to stay, but the club's moving in a different direction.

No doubt they'll sign one or two great centre-backs. I want to come back as a Chelsea supporter in years to come with my kids and see the team doing great.

Unfortunately that's not going to be with me, but I want to see the team do well. It's going to be my last year and I want to go out at the top.

I couldn't play for another Premier League club. I couldn't do that to the Chelsea fans. It will be elsewhere for sure. I don't know where and I leave that to the people in charge. It certainly won't be in the Premier League.

My agent made the call like we do every January. He got told over the phone and I called to set up a meeting the following day.

The club immediately set that up which was great of them to do that. I wanted to hear it face to face.

They told me. Unfortunately it's not going to be. I feel was though I'm in great nick, I'm playing great and I've got a couple of years to go. It'll just be elsewhere.

CHELSEA'S STATEMENT IN FULL

John requested a meeting with the club the week before last.

In that meeting he asked about the possibility of an extension to his existing contract.

John was advised that while no new deal was currently on the table, that situation could change in the coming months.

The club has the utmost respect for John and everything he has helped us achieve to date.

He is a fantastic servant of Chelsea Football Club and a superb captain and, as such, the club will keep the channels of dialogue open.

Last of the legends to go.

Drogba

Frank

Cech

And now JT.

Truly is the end of an era.

The team no longer has the charisma and identity that made us so successful for such a long time.

It's time to accept we are being downgraded as a club. I think for whatever reason a decision has been made to sit back from the league aspirations for a bit.

The signings ( Hector, dji-bloke, etc) were the beginning of it. JM the second (I believe his clashing with the board was tantamount to the end of his tenure). Now JT.

Just a new era and until there is a fresh view around that boardroom table, this is how it'll be.

All I can say is Martin Keown is a classless tw*t and pure scum, gooners must be proud, judges Terry as person despite the fact that he's never played with him, what an idiot. The likes of Carragher can be proffesional, but it's evident Keown doesn't know how to be.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-3425648/John-Terry-leave-Chelsea-Jamie-Redknapp-Jamie-Carragher-Martin-Keown-verdict.html

Keown is as stupid as he looks. One of the dumbest pundits on TV along with the Redknapp's and Savage's.

I remember his articles from last season when JT was getting worldwide praise from players calling him the best CB in the world again, this guy was subtlety trying (and failing) to hide his bias by discrediting his value or praising others like saying that Cahill is now our top defender and leader or some sh*t like that. No need to take him seriously, full of obvious bitterness.

Oh and Keown is an absolute disgrace. Objectively speaking he is a really poor pundit. Makes his personal opinions of player obvious.

At least Rio can actually talk from a footballing perspective.

To me the statements from JT and the club don't really add up. Both have said the decision isn't set in stone but JT carries on with sentiment that he is definitely leaving the club and won't be here next season.

So is this a plea for fan outrage in an effort to force the board to overturn their decision and offer him that new contract now or it is merely just an early notice to the fans as he doesn't believe he will be offered a new contract/isn't likely to accept the new contract offered.

Ok yes Terry should have another year left in his legs at the top level, well at least it looks that way given the current level of his performances in that they still haven't really dropped off (although he now does look a lot more vulnerable and even had a moment in the game today where he didn't look comfortable when one of the Mk dons players was running at him at pace), but 6 months at his age is a long time and decline is very likely also at that age injuries are a lot more frequent and severe so forcing the club to make a decision 6 months early without a permanent manager in charge will have put the club in a very tough situation, especially as he is one of the top earners at the club and if he were to start to decline and was no longer able to contribute at first team levels, having a player earning that much who can no longer contribute on the pitch is a hard burden to bare.

Yes Terry is still a great player and is the leader of our/his squad and for that reason alone i would like him to stay on another season but there are signs that he is on the decline and this could become rapid. I do not believe this is a disgraceful decision by the club and my apprehension towards this decision will be quelled somewhat if they came to this conclusion with Terry, whether it was because he wanted to be assured of playing week in week out and thus would prefer to move somewhere where that is guaranteed rather than taking on a lesser squad role here or whether he just wanted one last and very large payday before retiring I sincerely hope the club made this decision with the man and didn't take it out of his hands.

Even still it will be a huge blow to us as a fan base but it would be a bitter pill to swallow if this happened any time in the future as Terry is Chelsea and always will be Chelsea. Lets not forget this still might be the best course of action for Terry career and I would never want to see him struggle like some lesser players, who when closing in on their retirement, went off the boil (Ferdinand (both for United and QPR), Neville, Gerrard and Caragher spring to mind).

I really hope every thing ends on great terms and I can't wait to see him back at the club in the future hopefully instilling some of his passion and defensive grit and ability into the younger generation.

Especially as we do have a good history of bringing back ex-players for roles at the club.

Didn't realise I was hated so much :)

Can't believe Le Saux is being so glib, but then maybe I can as he is not in the same class as JT.

Anyway, the Gurdian article:

It has to be the only logical reason. It can't be money or form so must be there. I cannot see any other reason

Agreed!

The end of an era. But John will forever live in our memory..... and as he said no player is bigger than the club, as much as this hurts!

It had to happen sometime. Its amazing he has been here so long, fighting 100% in every single game. What an absolute hero on the pitch.

Come mid season next year he'll be 36, not many players get to play that long, and be captain especially at the top sides. Time waits for no man.

Lets hope we go out in a blaze of glory, and lift at least one cup.....

This will run for a while yet...

It’s such a sh*t way to treat him though is It not?

I mean he looks on and see’s Ivan who has been an utter disaster this season being rewarded with a year’s extension while the club captain is made to just twiddle his thumbs and wait till the club see’s fit to address him…..after dealing with others.

It’s just not good enough.

IMO JT's agent and the club are playing hard ball. I.e JT's agent is pushing and putting pressure on the club to give him a 1 year extension and the club are saying they are not ready to make that decision yet, as they wanna see what happens at the end of the season before they decide what money they offer JT. It's all about the money as Chelsea fc is being by the suits as a business.

JT knows how to play the media game and am confident that the club will offer JT an extension but on a lower wage. KTBFFH

I know we can't hang on to our players forever, but really just when things were getting back on an even keel, this happens. I've always tried to embrace the basket case instability around our Club, but at the moment the board seem to be making suicidal decisions. Hopefully this is just the opening salvo in some hard negotiations on both sides.

I think we really need Terry for another season while we try to bed in yet another new manager, I genuinely can't see a good case for not giving him one more season. Yes we've got to look to the future and start playing the younger lads, but having a JT on the bench and round the dressing room with all his experience, is priceless imo.

As for Martin Keown, his disgraceful behaviour when Van Nistleroy missed a penalty that day, is my only abiding memory of his career and he is still as classless as ever if that article is anything to go by.

Edited by SHELLY

Yes Shelly, basic transition planning. JT is pivotal to bedding in a new manager and guiding new and up and coming talent. To let his talent and wealth of knowledge of Chelsea go is beyond ridiculous, especially considering the fiasco of this season.

IMO The person at Chelsea who is making these f*cking crap decisions is Marina Granovskai. She replaced Ron Gourlay a few years ago. My old lady knows more about football clubs than her !

She is backed up by Eugene Tennebaum. Michael Emanalo is just a yes man, he doesn't make any decisions. We have vent our anger towards her.

But as I said before, this will play out for the exit few months and am confident that Roman will over ride her and offer JT an extension but at reduced wages.

Like I say Droogba, hopefully this is JT's side getting in an opening shot, and it gets resolved.

Failing that, surely evil Bond villain Abramovich (according to the  the mainstream media) should have worked out how to clone our best players by now !
