The club is in disarray and that's down to Roman.

Is all the rage though, pass pass pass until their defence has enough time to organise then get no where, rinse, wash, repeat.

Arsenal have been SOOOOO sucessful with it over the past decade... Or were they better off when they had Vieira, Henry, Pires and Ljungberg running directly at opposition defences scaring the sh*t out of them?

Its what I dont get, they wanted to change the squad back in 2011. Bought in a young manager who was there to do that in AvB and a DoF, Emenalo to oversee player aquisition. The aim was to revamp the squad, transition from the older guard to a new play style. He didnt do it immediately, mainly because trying to play those players like Barcelona and be succesful was never going to hapen. Abramovic then allowed the players to dictate whether or not AvB stayed, instead of backing his manager and his own decision to change the genetics of the team, AvB got fired and no systemic change happened. Instead they plummed for Benitez then Jose who is the antithisis of the style of football the players were bought for.

Abramovic has not allowed the team to drop off the top (until this year) but in doing so the transition of playing style to one that he actually wants has still not happened. The next managerial decision IMO is the biggest test of my faith in Abramovic, does he go for the right manager who will meet the demands that he sets in terms of playing style (Pelligrini, Rogers) or does he go for the manager who is more likely to win (Simeone). More importantly, does he then stick with him if either playing style or sucess is lacking?

theres two choices, as far as I'm concerned, 1:  tippy tappy crap, or 2: pace and power like we have had since 04/05, up until this season, option 1, doesn't bring you success in this league, option 2 does,  The best two teams at tippy tappy crap, barca and the arse, have had one big bogey man haunting them for last ten years, step forward chelsea fc. So why are we changing it? it doesn't make sense, football is about winning, simple as.

For me its simple.

Munich pre guardiola, power, pace, incisive, fantastic to watch with some amazing football

Munich with guardiola, tippy tappy, tedious, can defend against, boring to watch.

Munich side before guardiola were much much better to watch.

Munich pre pep, were like Chelsea 04/06 pace and power, fantastic sides, but all we here of is the love in, from the media of the tippy tappy kings barca, but when barca came up against Chelsea in their pomp 2005 or Bayern in their pomp 2013, they were left wanting!

Is the club really in disarray though ?

Not even close mate. Club is fine a club in disarray would not be planning a new multi-million pound stadium we are having bad season which in reality we are due one.

On matters of taste, Taka v Power, im on the power side. Im not against the Barca style done well however it requires a massive upheaval of the playing squad and a realisation that that entails sacrificing for a better long term prospect. If Abramovic wants this future then I back him as he has earned the right to run the club how he wants and see the football that he wants. What I am against is this desire  being pressed upon the club in a methodology which is clearly not working. The club isnt in disarry, but i feel its a bit rudderless, struggling to really decide what it wants to be. does Roman want to transition or does he want to sustain success I feel the two are not entirely compatible.

Yeah, I don't think we're in disarray ... we're should prepare for a period of transition, though, I think. Basically, I think there will be a big exodus over the summer because some of our players will be keen to leave, and a new manager will bring in new blood.

I honestly think Hazard, Costa and Oscar will leave. They have won the PL, won't play CL. Not sure about Willian. Fab likely will stay I think. I don't think he can do much better elsewhere, and I actually like the idea of him staying. He is a canny little lad ;). Don't get me wrong ... I think Costa, Oscar and Haz are great too, but I just think they will opt to leave. Matic probably too, since he won't be playing next season.

Anyway, what I am saying I guess is that things will change, a lot over the summer, but we will move forward and emerge stronger. I agree with a lot of the comments above about not playing the "Pep style" ... I would love to see a Ballack/Essien midfield, with Fab pulling the strings in a free role.

Is the club really in disarray though ?

Of course it's not. This is an undeniably disappointing season, but "disarray"? Not a chance.

This time last season we were heading for the title. There's nothing to say that this time next season we won't be in a similar position.

Sorry but I find the title of this thread utterly ridiculous bordering on farcical, and - this is just my opinion - but the creator of this thread comes across as little more than a one trick phoney.

Interesting that this thread was started following on from two successive away wins, the second being at MK Dons, but the first at the Emirates. Most Chelsea fans were still gloating over putting a massive dent in Arsenal's title hopes, but this supposed "Shedender" takes it upon himself to rip into the club on any number of levels, not least being an implication that it was a massive mistake to sell Ramires.

When Ancelotti described Ramires as "the future of Chelsea Football Club" I thought he was taking the piss.

I could go on but I frankly can't be bothered.

Hey. I respect that you took the time to post a reply so I'll try and give a decent response.

Last season we were 18 months into the second reign of Jose and it's fair to say that he'd established the type of football he wanted but that we were entering a tough period where it became evident we needed reinforcements.

We didn't get it and the rest is history.

This season, we're once again searching around for another manager, another type of football and another round of investment when spending seems to be on the decline. That to me is not a recipe that suggests we will be challenging for the title next season.

OK, you got me. I'm actually seated in the MHL this season but ShedEnder is an old name. I'll cop to the factual inaccuracy.

I'm not sure what else to say here. Yes we came off a good result against Arsenal (who are on a poor run of form) and a Championship side who played with startling naivety against us, but the whole situation at the club is troublesome in my opinion. We're a club lacking an identity and in my opinion, lacking a cohesive plan to develop one. I know that's unpalatable for some to here but it seems to be one that others share.

Also it wasn't really a mistake to sell Ramires because £25 million for a 29 year old is impossible to turn down. What worried me was that we sold a player in a position in which we were already weak and didn't replace him. That showed a huge lack of ambition regarding this season, something we've actually been exhibiting for quite a while now.

Again, that is something that has worried me for a while. Not improving a squad with clear issues last summer sends out all the wrong signals.

Hope that's an ok response. I would love to think this is just a blip and that we're on the cusp of a massive resurgence but I don't see any evidence for that and sadly I don't think there's been much presented in this thread either.

Everyone saying that this managerial appointment is crucial... dont we say this every time? When Jose left first time it was crucial to get someone in to continue the success, when RDM left it was essential to get in a manager who would utilise the talented squad we had etc etc.

We thought Roman got it spot on last time... and then it went south. Philosophy, playing style, media charm... none of it matters unless you win. and win. and win. and win. That's the club philosophy... which doesnt leave a lot of room for future planning! And right now we've got a lot of planning to do to ensure we have a manager, squad and boardroom working in harmony towards a common goal. I feel like this season everyone had different objectives: The players want to play freely with creativity and attacking intent, the manager wanted us to be hard to beat and win matches however we can, and the board wanted young players to come through and still have us playing great football AND win...

Let's find a clear vision and ensure it is shared by every player, coach, fan, board member, tea lady, steward etc in the club. Let's be united (NOT United!)

The commitment of the club to freezing the prices of the tickets for the last 5 (?) years is outstanding not just in the context of modern football, but also when viewed in the current economic climate. They also deserve a great deal of credit for reducing prices of Cup tickets, including semi-finals, to £25 which allows people who perhaps can't get into regular league matches to attend a few games a season.

The added benefit of this is that the atmosphere of these matches tends to be the best you'll see at the Bridge.

Commercially we've excelled in certain areas with the prime example being the Yokohama tyres deal. We've also shown an ability to maximise the amount of money we get from letting expendable assets leave.

Then there's the plans for the new stadium which are outstanding and the way they've consulted with local stakeholders has been exemplary and very forward-thinking. The exhibition they had and the way they got us supporters involved was first-class.

The ticket exchange has also been a brilliant model of how to handle the secondary ticketing market in sport.

Ok mate?

But, but, but...... You didn't offer to meet me down the pub to discuss this face to face like a man!

The manager can only do so much. A team will always need good players to succeed.

You will all hate me for saying this but Terry leaving in the summer is great news for Chelsea. You will be able to evolve now - player power is too big at Chelsea with Terry pulling the strings.

I'm shocked. JT made no difference to José s demise despite open support. Do tell us more, intriguing.

Agree totally. There's constant confusion over what this club is trying to be and what it's aims are, and that comes right from the very top. Roman is as responsible for that as he is for any of the success we have too.

I don't think anyone would have a problem with JT leaving if we had an idea of what we'd be replacing him with or evolving into.

The problem is there's a lack of identity at this club and for us supporters, JT was one of the things we could truly identify with. You won't get hate for saying what you did, but I will when I say that Liverpool have a clear idea of what they want to be on the pitch and we don't. United fans talk about playing the United way, Liverpool fans have the old 'pass and move it's the Liverpool groove', Arsenal have their Wenger-inspired style for better or worse but what is Chelsea?

Before Roman we were a continental-inspired, entertaining, cultured team which started with Hoddle. Then when Jose came in we became this machine, combining power with panache, the skill of Robben built on the brutality of Essien. Players like Drogba, Ballack and even Lamps typified that.

Then we tried to change to a poor facsimile of Barcelona and still, NONE OF US KNOW WHY!! We brought in AVB and focussed on technically proficient players with the ultimate aim being Pep Guardiola.

But then he rejected us and we went for a manager who was the antithesis of Guardiola and changed the style again.

The truth may be that we have no identity beyond what Roman is enamoured with at that moment in time and that lends credence to those taunts we have received for over a decade - that we're nothing more than a rich man's plaything. That's why I moan, that's why I say we're in disarray and I have no doubt that I'll get stick for that but what I'd really like is to be shown I'm wrong because there's no joy in being right about this.

Anybody who remembers Ken Bates should LOVE Roman...

It's popular to sh*t on Bates and the guy has few qualities that I like personally, but he took over a club who were in serious trouble and without him I doubt Roman ever buys us.

Think back to 93/94 when he appoints Hoddle and we begin the journey to not only being a title contender, but a team who was enjoyable to watch with world superstars like Ruud Gullit and Marcel Desailly. We beat Barcelona 3-1 at the Bridge for heaven's sake. We went to Wembley, to European finals and we were genuine title contenders.

You also have to give credit to Matt Harding too, a proper Chelsea man who helped revolutionise the club. We were not a rich man's plaything to him, we were a labour of love.

There is a scenario where we actually come out of this stronger.

If we get people with vision in running the club and utilise the world-class academy that we have then the restrictions on spending might not be so bad. We might actually be forced to use the youngsters and build a new team around homegrown talent. That would be absolutely brilliant.

We have a core of players like Courtois, Azpilicueta, Zouma, Willian and maybe Hazard and Costa. If we can incorporate players like Loftus-Cheek, Abraham, Palmer, Christensen, Solanke and Baker then we could have a whole new Chelsea built in a sustainable way and ready for the new stadium in 2020.

That is the dream but I hope it can become a reality.

Ok, lets analyze the managerial activity that happened at chelsea..

Apart from JM, I don't think Roman has ever hired a manager that goes the opposite way of his preferred philosophy.. The Avram grant, hiddink, rdm, benitez are all emergency call that came mid season so we can only judge the one who came at the start of the season which leaves us with scolari, avb, and ancelotti... They're all more into offensive style and for that I say roman stays true to his desire.. Obviously it didn't work out but the main reason why they got sacked is because of a 'palpable discord'. There was no real unity between the manager and players and when that happens, the club is doomed to fail and the sacking was inevitable..

JM is a special case, as much as roman wants that exciting football, he knew that he needed to solidify the grass root of the 'newly promoted club' into the elite class so that's why he hired JM the 1st time.. It turned out a great success apart from the style ( at least in roman eyes and mine) but even that couldn't last long and thus came the unfortunate managerial merry go round for the next decade.. As for the 2nd JM appointment, like I said, it's the nostalgia of the previous success as well as the so called promise from the so called newly refined special one, not too mention the availability of other quality manager at that time..

When you make a decision regarding hiring/buying manager/player, things could work out well or go south, it happens all the time to all the people, surely you can't single out roman for that, can you?

As for the knowledgeable board member, take MU for example, it's really a very good one.. They have bobby and ferguson for years and also they're keeping giggs to play that role but look at them, things still went wrong, didn't they? they don't even have their identity anymore let alone current success and bright future..

Having said that, I'd question roman if he brings a manager like simeone next summer because that appointment doesn't go along with his philosophy that he's been craving but even so, I wouldn't blame him for that, it just shows he puts the club success 1st over his preferred philosophy, try to understand him.. He's the man who transformed chelsea, blaming him for such trivial matter is normally what opposition fans would do..

No, let's not; this thread is past its use by date. Pork scratchings anyone?

Someone mentioned that Sampalo likes to play a very high line. Not sure I fancy that, our defence would get killed in the Prem with the direct teams. Just hit and run for them.

i don't  understand  why roman was reportedly willing to offer guardiola a blank cheque but wasn't willing to let mourinho spend money to sign quality players like pogba and stones to improve our team now they'll probably end up at city and emenalo  goes and signs duds like papa, baba rahman and pedro

We were looking to pay £40 million for Stones, Abramovich was definitely willing to spend the money. Pogba was never going to happen, it's never looked likely. When he leaves Juventus, he will go to Real Madrid or Barcelona.

You can't do much if the clubs don't want to sell their players.
