Antonio Conte - Now Officially Manager

Featured Replies

how much do we reckon he'll get to spend? or will he be told to integrate more youth players.

I think he will be given 50 - 60 mil and probably get more from player sales and he will be told to integrate youth but of course the youth will have to earn their spot. "No free lunch" and all that...

Edited by summer is coming

I think he'll get 2/3 players and told to intergrating youth. If Elmano is being upfront about the whole youth development thing then they will want to see Conte developing and making it work.

It's the one thing that we haven't cracked yet, youth development. We've built a world class facility, got the best youth players, winning trophies but failing at the last hurdle at intergrating them.

With West Ham rumoured to be looking to spend £50m this summer, I don't think that £60/70m will actually cut it. With smaller clubs being able to spend more, we need to spend more as well and be ahead of them, not be on the same level.

Romans pumped enough money in, he's now looking to build a stadium. We can't expect him to chuck hundreds of millions about every season, that's not realistic.

£60 odd million then whatever sales we generate is very reasonable. Remember we have people like Cuadrado on the books who could go for £15 odd million while still having the Ramires money to play with.

Surely with all our revenue, we could generate more than £60m for transfers? At a time when the squad needs a massive overhaul and quality?

Depends.

Remember the stadium is going to cost a fortune plus did we not have to pay Jose off when he left?

I think the consensus now is we sell before we buy.

i agree we shouldn't need to spend so much. leicester and spurs are leading our league and they've spent far less on players. atletico madrid aren't flush with funds neither and they're in the finals of the cl and have been challenging for la liga, so we shouldn't have to spend so much money to get back to where we belong. we still have quality players and a brilliant academy, so bringing in 2-3 good players for positions needed to fill really should be enough.

I fear were gonna be like Arsenal were, paying off a new stadium and buying below average players.

That's the worry but tbh we can't rely on Roman ploughing his own money in year after year. What happens when he can't afford to do it anymore or after he is gone? What happens to us then?

I think he is trying to get us in a position where we generate enough money via sponsorships, stadium revenue and etc. so we don't have to rely on spending huge sums every season. I think that's also why he's spent so much on our academy hoping we can emerge some talents who are our own. Of course the fact he hires managers who don't play them is an issue or if those managers are instructed to overlook youth? Who knows.

We need to get our player recruitment spot on if we are to avoid doing an Arsenal/Liverpool and no more spending huge sums on players like Cuadrado who just didn't fit in from the get go.

I think letting Jose go cost him a fortune since he signed a new deal months before the sacking then having to bring in Conte wouldn't be cheap either. I don't see it as Roman scrimping but simply trying to make us self sufficient so we don't implode when his money cannot keep us going anymore.

He'd just as well sell the entire starting 11 given the abysmal performances they have put in this season, the next 11 cannot be any worse can they?  Plus sell several of the 100 players on loan around the world because they will never get anywhere near the first team.

Very well said, tbh if we started to use our youth abit better we could set ourselves for a long time. I know it won't happen overnight but these lads are winning trophies every year, they're clearly talented.

Yeah it's highly frustrating as it's not only domestic trophies the boys are winning it's European ones too.

They are clearly very talented footballers but we never see them in our first team. RLC it feels was forced upon the manager and you can see Mourinho/Hiddink for whatever reason were reluctant to use him.

Conte I feel will need to bring a few through but again the pressure of getting the bullet if not doing well will no doubt want him to bring in tried and tested ones.

Tbh I'm not sold on RLC I think people have pinned a lot of hope on him because he's the only one given even a slim chance.

Yeah I think that's been the problem down the years with us tbh. To quick to pull the trigger so manager is reluctant to do certain things like bringing through youth players.

i know people like to criticise arsenal, but in 10 years they've always made top four considering their lack of big money transfers. fair enough they haven't won much within those years, but i would be content to make top four for the next few seasons until the stadium is built tbh. we are going to be in a transitional phase as it is.

I get that and in the world were in financially that would be good but if rather even do what Liverpool did in that decade. They weren't always top four but won trophies, footballs supposed to be about winning trophies not simply making profits. I also feel if you have no chance of winning the CL then it's pointless been in it. Arsenal did make it to one final (which tbh I think is poor given Wengers run there) but you knew they weren't gonna win it.

i am sure we could win trophies in that time and you would expect us to be challenging for the title even if we didn't make big changes, but i don't much care about winning trophies every season considering the situation we're in. if we made top four year after year, made a respectable run at the league and cl and even won the occasional domestic cup, i would be fine with that until we plant our feet fully again. we don't need to spend big in all honesty. buy smart and bring through some of our own and we shouldn't have any issues competing for the title/top 4 under conte.

I know it's greedy to expect but I honestly am not expecting us to win trophies year on year but if it's an either or situation trophies for top 4 I'd take the trophies everytime.

I think that buying smart is spot on, if we'd done that in the Summer things would be much different.

Bayern are such an efficient club. So decisive with their transfers. Renato done, Hummels on the way. And they don't even have any glaring deficiency.

Helps when it's piss easy to win the league every season when all you have to do is buy your rivals best players time and time again.

Well Renato is from Benfica. Just commenting on how well oiled their transfer team is.
