Antonio Conte - Now Officially Manager

Who knows, maybe German media has been talking about it for months and it was a long transfer saga.

English media don't really try that hard for foreign rumours, certainly not to the extent of 'make sh*t up' that they do for english clubs.

Think it's pretty easy given every German's dream is to play for almighty Bayern Munich. Also no team is crazy enough to reject 35 million euros for an 18 yr old who fully broke into the first team early this year.

Nah don’t buy that.

I mean they must have some passion (the fans). If you were brought up a Dortmund, Leverkusen and so on fan then your dream wouldn’t be to play for a rival surely. Maybe it’s different over here but if that’s the case I’m so glad I’m not a German!!

No probs there mate, I only made that assumption based on recent dealings between Bayern and its rivals (Neur, Gotze, Hummels etc) and I agree with you on your point as even footballers have boyhood clubs they want to play for and wouldnt be interested in playing for rivals ( Reus comes to mind here). It was just a thought though and thanks for pointing that out.

We really shouldn't need to spend that much. Just fix the defense and CM. The biggest myth is that we have a bunch of mid-table players who Jose, through his genius, made better. Let's take the spine, Costa, Cesc, Matic, Oscar, Terry, Courtois. Given what you knew of these players' abilities and their history before last season which of these players played better than that expectation? None, they were known as great players, and had played great in the past, and played great last season.

Matic and Oscar were never considered great. And when has Oscar become the spine of the team? He is so erratic. Terry won't be here. Costa is a headcase but quality. Cesc is 29 so not sure now much more he can carry on. Courtois needs another chance.

How much is not "that much" for you. Even if we just fix CB and CM spots it would take the best part of 100-120m.

2 CBs will cost about 50m in total (30m+ for one top CB and 15m for another decent one). 2 CMs will cost us nearly easily 60m+.

Can hardly call it not "that much".

Even after this we will need a left back and a second striker.

it is the wrong decision   taken by a board that is the laughing stock of the football world.....kloop was the man  and we will live to regret the day we didn't install him..

Hopefully Conte can spot the next Azpilicueta, Alderweireld, Kante, Vardy, Mahrez etc. He didn't spend more then 15-20mil on a single player when he was at Juventus and brought in players like Pogba, Vidal, Lichtensteiner, Tevez, Morata.

To be fair, other than Vardy and Mahrez, it's not as if any of those players (on either list) were particularly unheard of.

I find it funny that multiple media outlets claimed the club bid as high as 90 million Euro's for Pogba, yet people are still continuing the myth the club are not prepared to spend.

Even if they did, and there are no credible sources, getting Pogba on the last day was something that would never happen. You have to incredibly stupid if you think you have a chance to make such a transfer of an elite player at the last hour or you were just hoping that people would think you are showing intent. The intent would be a show for your manager whom you have shafted till then, the fans or the sponsors.

That 90 million gets you Pogba in July, 100%. Sometimes people buy your bluff, like Torres.

As efficient as Bayern are, I hope no one is using them to compare against us. Different kettle of fish altogether. They can guarantee their targets champions league and effective attacking football and a title regardless of the manager.

That is something no team in the prem can do hence why not one club is pulling up trees in the transfer market .

You sound like a Chelsea fan that is suffering from Paranoia and hears voices. The only board that are the laughing stock of world football is Utd's whilst Arsenals are admired greatly for their great transfer business every summer.

A board so admired at a club that has won 2 FA cups in the last 10 years. Anyway I thought it was Wenger that does all the transfer business.

quite interesting view from a juve fan before conte signed for chelsea:

"Conte will devour Abramovic, do not underestimate him. The man spits fire and he will not put pen to paper on a contract until Abramovic has given him full authority over the team.

Not saying he'll stay at Chelsea forever, but he's a hardcore disciplinarian and he will quit the second the players try to rebel against his system."

Wrong that 90million means nothing if Pogba doesn't want to leave. Juve know how good he is and would rather a happy Pogba stay for as long as possible than to take the money. Even Barca want him and he rebuffed that move.

few more quotes:

"Before Conte came on, Juve was far from a powerhouse. They finished in 7th place for the two seasons before Conte signed on. I really had little expectation to see them finish in the top 3 in 11-12 when he became manager, but in truth he changed everything. It's because of him that Juve are a powerhouse, which is why I think Chelsea may become pretty scary in the next couple of years."

in response to above quote:

"While its true that Conte was absolutely crucial to Juve's turnaround there was a sharp change in the strategy of signing players which gave Conte the likes of Vidal and Pirlo who turned midfield which was a big problem area into one of our biggest strengths.

Conte will have more control over who is signed, and building squads isn't one of Conte's best skills., so while he will certainly be able to get the most out of what he has there could definitely be problems when it comes to filling gaps in the squad."

response to above:

"True, Marotta is really a mastermind when it comes to signings. Conte thrived under a fantastic management staff. But to my knowledge, Chelsea have a pretty influential staff of their own. I think Conte will be able to bring a lot of his plans to life there."

response:

"I agree, Juve have a great staff of scouts and directors but Chelsea do as well and I think he will be fine there. I'm really more curious about how the current players will react to his management style. He is a very demanding coach, and no offense to Chelsea but the current team seem to have a problem with authority (from a third perspective)."

"It is really not because of Conte that Juve are a powerhouse, the in-club institutions which have existed for decades make Juve a powerhouse. Decades of a winning mentality as a club, forcing provincial sides to fear you automatically makes Juve a powerhouse. Being backed by the industrial backbone of modern Italy in Fiat (with its concomitant political clout both as a company and individual members of the Agnelli family) makes you a powerhouse. Consistently, over decades, signing the best Italian players with a suitable mentality makes Juve a powerhouse. Having the financial ability to, on several occasions, sign the best players in the world makes Juve a powerhouse. Being placed in the industrial capital of Italy at the time of intense South to North emigration providing a massive homebase of fans makes Juve a powerhouse. Being the best supported club in Italy for decades makes Juve a powerhouse. Being in the piemontese region, which had been predestined for greatness by the political establishment of unified Italy makes Juve a powerhouse. A fantastic and profitable modern stadium built entirely by the club and bizarrely not by Conte makes Juve a powerhouse.

Or it was a cheating (or at the very least, extremely dodgy), toupee wearing, completely tactically inflexible, grudge holding prat Conte who in three years turned unheard of perennial no-hopers Juve into a powerhouse. He won you a few titles when Napoli and Roma were as inconsistent as they nearly always are and the Milan clubs are shadows of their former selves."

response from juve fan to above quote:

"That's all true, but you could say the same thing about Liverpool, AC Milan, even Manchester United right now. It's not easy to get out of a rut and while each situation is different and the particulars are different, it takes someone driven to tip the cup.

Conte was a cogwheel in the Juve machine, granted the entire board and team at Juventus was very driven to get back to the top, it took Conte to get them there.

He's undeniably a very complicated character, stubborn, I don't think Hitler held a grudge like Conte...but he was phenomenal at Juve. I think he'll be great at Chelsea too, unlike most I actually don't think he'll have a big say over signings. He'll get what he gets and he'll make the best team out of it, I'm positive."

on youth:

"Is Conte's past track record with youth players that good? Genuine question."

response from juve fan:

"No its not, I think people look at Pogba as the rule when he was the exception pushing himself into the squad with his undeniable talent.

I think its more apt to look at Conte's reluctance to give younger players a role in the Italy squad as a guide, and the stakes are a lot lower for Italy than they will be for Chelsea.

I think the Conte we'll see at Chelsea will be incredibly conservative."
