Antonio Conte - Now Officially Manager

Featured Replies

so difficult to know who is right and who isn't. you get a mix of opinions from juve fans due to how he left juve; some love him, some are a bit bitter towards him. i definitely believe the stuff about pogba being a cut above and that's why he pushed his way into the team, so conte had no choice. some juve fans saying he's reluctant to play youth, which includes insigne (when he was playing really well). if the players are good enough i think he'll play them, but i don't think we can expect major changes in the youth playing policy any time soon.

On paper Conte is a more "sensible" appointment than AVB and Scolari were.

AVB was too inexperienced for the job and Scolari had been away from club management way too long and also had no experience of managing a club in Europe's top leagues.

He's a similar appointment to Ancelotti in that he is experienced but still at the top of his game.

I'm optimistic about the appointment but his success at Chelsea is going to depend on how much he is allowed to rebuild the squad over the next couple of years.

according to many juve fans he won't have any input in transfers. juventus board refused him cuadrado at the time when he needed a winger and so he fell out with the board because of it, and even said in a press conference something along the lines of "you can't eat at a 100 euro restaurant with only 10 euros" lol.

i am optimistic with our scouting due to the players we've scouted in the past so i am sure we'll bring in decent names, but sounds like conte is the type who won't take sh*t from the powers above if they refuse him anything; he won't hesitate in walking away from the club that's for sure. just praying he'll be a success here. many juve fans think he will be, so fingers crossed.

In my opinion, I think the board have given him control/a certain amount of control of transfers. Bidding for a player like Nainggolan and being linked to certain players from the Italian league shows this ( if reports are true).

oh yeah i don't think conte would have signed if he wasn't granted some kind of say in transfers. it probably won't be much of a say, but he'll put names forward i am sure.

The fact he rated Cuadrado is worrying in itself!

Seriously though I assume the board and Conte have spoke about targets, what's expected and budgets. No manager would sign a contract without those things being addressed first.

Cuadrado is a pretty decent player in Serie A, whether or not he can be like that in the Premier League I don't know.

Under Jose he didn't get much of a chance so it will be interesting to see if we bring him back for next season.

He got plenty of chances from what I can remember.

It's the fact he was utter dross every single time he was on the pitch. Jose was right to send him away, if anything Jose gave him too much playing time IMO. He was honestly one of the worst footballers I have ever seen play for us.

I think Chelsea's scouting has been generally really good.  Our issue has been giving players first team opportunities.  That has seen us buy good players and then sell them on without them having any chance here (KDB is a great example).  Hopefully, all Conte needs to do is say I need a round peg for this hole and the scouting team will find him one.

Our biggest issue is that the players seemed to resist Jose demands, will they resist another demanding coach?  Hopefully, not after the car crash of a season we've just had.  I also suspect that getting JT out of the dressing room may help with this.  Before I get slaughter... JT is our leader and a legend, but I also think he may be too "influential" behind the scenes.

He played 312 minutes for us in the league. 2/3 of the games were coming off the bench. Yes he was underwhelming but Mourinho chucked him into a team, that were playing poorly after Christmas anyway just grinding out results, for a few minutes here and there and expected him to make an impact.

I expected him to be able to dribble a ball.

I expected him to not fall over the ball.

I expected him to be able to pass a ball.

All of the things you expected from an international footballer he failed in, it wasn't a case of he didn't impress....it was a case of he was embarrassing to watch every single time he had our shirt on.

Jose would have been an idiot to give him more game time, the last thing you want in a struggling side is a player who cant control a football!

You naming Costa there lol

He did not get plenty of chances. Admittedly Cuadrado never played well for Chelsea but making sub appearances here, starts there with no consistency of games in a new league was never going to help him. Like Mourinho said he can decide on a player within 10mins, obviously he did that with Cuadrado.

His been a good player in Italy that's why managers have rated him.

Yeah compare someone who cant control a football to the man who scored 20 odd goals last season and leads the goal charts for us this season.....

Costa can't dribble and falls over the ball so I was taking the p***

Players are humans too, they need confidence to be able to express themselves to their best capabilities, I think Cuadrado lacked it or perhaps he felt the manager had no belief in him, also his time or arrival wasnt ideal with the team in a title run-in,with no preseason or time to be properly integrated into the team and all that. If Conte believes in him and feels he has something to offer to us, then I welcome back with open arms, just look at Ben-Arfa who couldn't even cut it at Hull now being linked to the likes of Barcelona,Us and Psg after an exceptional season in the ligue 1. If truly Cobte

Salah was a good player in Italy

Marin was a good player in Germany

Atsu was a good player in Holland.

It doesn't make them good footballers, if anything it shows once they get out their comfort zone they are very poor footballers.

Italy is several levels behind the EPL in quality terms bar 1 or 2 teams like Juve. Overall the football on show is pretty average. It's no wonder average footballers look good there.

Did any of those players get good game time for Chelsea?

Considering when they did play they were mince of course not.

Do you expect a Chelsea side expected to win the title to constantly play guys who are obviously not good enough for us.

Atsu moved to Everton and was woeful too, but yeah we should play them because it's our fault they are crap as they need more time on the pitch........

Fully agree, Chelsea have let Mikel sit on the bench for over 10 years and let Oscar be inconsistent for how long? Surely if the manager wants to give the player a chance he is worth a go than spending another load of money.

Personally I don't think Marin was good but he was never given good game time. Either was Salah and then when he is a first team starter we see him playing well. Every player is different and players can't be judged on a few 10min cameos here or there.

Someone can't just say a player is rubbish because they play 10mins.

No one said they were rubbish after 10 minutes.

It was after half a dozen times of being on the park and not being able to do the basic's of a footballer that made my mind up. They might be able to do better in other countries but for Chelsea and English football they are quite clearly not good enough.
