July 8, 201610 yr Why? If an athlete chooses to smoke that's their business. I think it's unprofessional act, shows bad example to the football world. For me, it's shocking to see an athlete smoking, it hurts your health then why you have to use that? If he retires he can do whatever he want, but now he's an active football player and letting the world know that you're smoking it's shocking in my opinion.
July 8, 201610 yr He smokes. There was a belgian player filming him with a pack of cigarettes in his hotel room at the euros. Definitly unprofessional and made me a little less keen on him.
July 8, 201610 yr Does it seems legit to you? A real athlete must protect his health! When I see this, I can't really see a real professional football player, I'm sorry.
July 8, 201610 yr Ballon d'Or winner Zidane not a real professional footballer? Eh?! Is this photo when he still was an active player? If yes, then I can't accept that Ballon d'Or winner will smoke. I just can't understand how a professional football player can smoke. If you will give a legit reason that will approve that smoking is fine in football, then I will leave that. I'm coaching a u15 team at the moment, and these kids looking at the big players and they want to become like them, if they will see them smoking, then everyone will start to smoke. Smoking hurts Sport, destroys health, leads to cancer, everything that hurts the athlete is there, then why should footballer or any athlete smoke?
July 8, 201610 yr why should footballer or any athlete smoke? Suppose when they have finished counting their money, they have to have something to do with thier hands.
July 8, 201610 yr Obviously it's not ideal that a pro footballer smokes but if they are performing as well as they do on a weekly basis I don't see the problem. I know a lot of footballers were drinking and smoking in the 70s and 80s.

Yeah that picture was taken during a World Cup I believe. I'm not saying players should smoke but obviously you can smoke and still be an elite athlete. Can I give a justification for a player smoking. Of course not but then there is no reason for a player to consume alcohol either but at the end of the day they're just people prone to all the weaknesses the rest of us are but if a player like Ashley Cole can be a smoker and still be a sublime athlete who am I to judge?
July 8, 201610 yr Did vialli have a smoke by the tunnel at Spurs when he didn't come off the bench when Ruud was in charge?
July 8, 201610 yr Well, some of you might accept that, but I'm still against to see a football player smoking. And if Nainggolan smoking before games, before training, or at his free time, then I don't want to see him here. I see him as a professional footballer that showing an example to the youth and if this action would be acceptable in the club, then I won't be surprised to see other players smoking as well. As a football player, he must protect his health and live a normal athlete life. Anyways, I respect your opinions and I'm alright with that.

July 8, 201610 yr No, I know what you mean. A footballers career is very short, 10 years at the top at the most if your lucky. So why do anything to jeopardise it.
July 9, 201610 yr No, I know what you mean. A footballers career is very short, 10 years at the top at the most if your lucky. So why do anything to jeopardise it. Yeah I agree with that, I don't and have never smoked so I don't understand why anybody smokes anyway. So for any sort of professional athlete to smoke I find baffling.

Do you seriously believe none of the current players in our squad smoke? Or are you just against them doing it publicly?
July 9, 201610 yr Yeah I agree with that, I don't and have never smoked so I don't understand why anybody smokes anyway. So for any sort of professional athlete to smoke I find baffling. So they shouldn't have a glass of wine or pint of beer either?
July 9, 201610 yr Yes. I would think having some beers is more harmful than smoking a cig once and a while. If it eases your mind I have no problem with it. BTW I have never smoked nor do I endorse it but as deals go that is not a big one.
July 9, 201610 yr So they shouldn't have a glass of wine or pint of beer either? I'm not saying they should or shouldn't do anything I'm just saying I don't get smoking. I never will, it's one of the most idiotic things in the world. You drink to get drunk, you eat bad food for the taste, what sort of pleasure do people get from cigarettes? Cause everyone I know who smokes regrets it, says it's disgusting and that its just to satisfy a craving created by the cig. I don't see the initial point of it like other stuff.
