Quite simply we don't have the best candidate at the moment.. I think cesc would be the closest considering everything bar the history but it is that very history that preventing me from supporting him to be the next captain.. 

 

Both azpi and cahill don't possess that leadership & respect by the look of it, costa can be a bit of arseh0le at times otherwise I'd pick him.. Wouldn't be appropriate to select the captain from new recruit so it's sh*t options really.. I think I wouldn't mind tossing a coin to decide who's the captain..

The idea of cesc wearing the armband is vomit-inducing. Sure, he can play a perfect long ball now and then, but that does not make him the captain. This is a player who was booed by the majority of the crowd at SB because the majority of us thought that he had not given his 100% on purpose until Jose was fired, not a desirable trait in the person wearing the band for the forth coming future.

Back on topic, I think some people are wanting us to replace JT with a JT like Captain and we aren't gonna find that.

There will never be a JT again. And people like me need to accept that. But, is cesc the answer? 

 

Yes, he does have the credentials. He has captained arsenal but that was a team that used to concede last minute equaliser every second week. They are also the team that conceded 4 goals to newcastle after being 4-0 up. It was a team that lacked leadership.

Moreover Cesc is 29 and runs like a 50 year old (i should know, I am 50+). Also, is it just me or has cesc become even more unathletic than his arsenal/barca days. I mean, I dont think he was this poor. I honestly think he is not aging well and wont be a definite starter in 2 years' time. Do we want another "stop gap"? 

 

This might sound crazy, but if we actually dont give JT an extension, and we somehow dispose off of GC and Iva, then I will give the armband to Hazard. Hazard is hands down our "best player". The guy needs to start taking things seriously for once. Jose could not get him to do it. Maybe having the responsibility of carrying the team on his shoulders and being the leader on the pitch, makes him a responsible person as well as a professional. The lad has the potential to be a world class player to the level of CR and messi, the only thing stopping him is 'him". This is what I would do. 

I think of who there is for me I can only think of Cesc, I find others just aren't right, not vocal enough or to hot headed. Although what the hell do I know? Conte is gonna know who the right person is (hopefully anyway).

If Cesc was Gennaro Gattuso and Andrea Pirlo's lovechild he'd be captaincy material without doubt.

 

I still think Azpi should be captain, he may not be a natural leader or the most vocal, but i'd like to think it would encourage a togetherness that wins games, i.e. look at what Leicester have achieved. #fightforthepuppydog

Personally, i think Conte will bring in a pretty high profile CB, perhaps Bonucci, to replace JT, and it wouldn't suprise me if he names him as his captain.

If Terry goes and Conte doesn't buy in a new captain, we will be in trouble again next season.

 

Cesc is just to lightweight, I know he's experienced, plenty, but times have changed, the Prem is full of physically tough and very very hungry players.

 

Ivanovic would be a great captain, if he could still play football.

 

Cahill, I would love him to be captain material, truly, but he isn't, not for us anyway.

 

Costa ? oh please, don't even go there.

 

Matic and Mikel can be dealt with in two words, just no.

 

Azpilcueta, we'll just call him Dave, not captain. He would be a good vice captain, but we need someone with way more stature on the pitch.

 

Hazard has been mentioned, not sure about him as captain, but he must be under the wing of our captain, our prized gem that needs a tough captain.

 

Zouma could be a future captain, certainly has the stature and presence of one, if he had not of got the injury, and had carried on improving, who knows he could have been in pole position by now with all the other contenders failing to improve much.

 

Christensen, some people (me inc) think he could make a brilliant captain, he is fast improving, very cool headed, and certainly has the right atittude. But next season he may have to remain on loan for his second year.

 

 

But most of all I just pray we can keep JT for one more season as captain, even if he only plays half of the season, remember we won't have anywhere near as many games next season. 

Fabregas is probably the best candidate considering he can still play football unlike Brana.

 

I agree with Coco though, we need to sign someone like Bonucci who can just come straight into the team and be captain.

Maybe, Maybe not. 

If he fails, then I dont think he would be any different to what he is right now.

If he succeeds, and actually acts responsibly, does not come back from pre-season 10 kg overweight, is accountable for his actions. I mean this is a guy who has talent equal to the likes of CR and Messi. If he had the hardworking nature of CR, then just imagine what a player we would have on our hands.Definiitely worth the risk and worth a shot.

I think the captaincy debate is going to go well into the next season in all honesty, especially if people aren't sure in the choice

Under Conte at Juve (and currently) Italy Buffon was/is the captain, but he also had a solid core with Bonucci/Chiellini/Marchisio/Vidal - all captains in their own right. Hopefully JT stays, I think the club may make an announcement before next week's game at the Bridge (I'd hope so, anyway)
