Romelu Lukaku

Your superb language use almost thwarted a quip, but here's an alternative.

23 would be higher than 28 if 23 were the number of weetabix stacked alongside 28 rice crispies.

Stack 28 rice crispies and I'll buy us Lukaku.

See my edit in your honour.

I would use edible glue, preferably chocolate. You mean you've never stacked iddy biddy cereal?

If you stack 28 without glue I'll be really impressed. Photo evidence needed obviously.

Hhaaa, glue is best bit.

It's cheating, you would be instantly banned in the European food stacking championship.

Huge diffrence in movement between a static Lukaku and a 34 year old Zlatan. I counted 4 almost identical crosses into the box where Lukaku was starting to slow and ending up 1m from a tap in.

Dont worry, lukaku will improve  :laugh2:

Watching him vs. Ireland the other day was painful, which is kind of a funny thing to say considering he scored twice for Belgium.

He's a strange player. I don't know if I'd want him back for the price Everton are asking for.

Exactly plays for a sh*t team. Give him eden and cesc and see what he can do.

I really, really dislike that argument.

That logic didn't work out for Bony did it? Playing for Everton is a lot different to playing for Chelsea.

More teams attack Everton, giving Lukaku space on counter attack, which is what he is best at, teams against Chelsea sit back and defend deep, Lukaku is awful against that type of football, Costa may not be the best technical player, but his movement and intelligent running help create major inroads against park buses.

I have never once seen Lukaku play well against a deep defense or an astute defence, yes he scores goals but in this day in age you need to a lot more than that as a forward, Troy Deeney has an average goal record yet is about to be signed for £30m, Mario Gomez scored almost a goal a game for Munich in 11/12 and was dropped the following season.

So because of one Bony we can confidently say that ANY striker playing for a mid table team wont be able to make it for a top team?

What about Thierry Henry? or Rud Van Nistelrooy? Or Didier Drogba?

Lukaku is a goal scorer. With the service of the likes of eden hazard and cesc, he would be a 20 goal a season striker despite his "so called" shortcomings.

And why do people keep saying "packed defences". Which team in PL plays that way any longer? Arsenal dont, Spurs dont, City dont, United dont, Soton dont, WHU dont, Pool surely dont, even Stoke has stopped playing that way, Everton and swansea dont, hell I would even put CP in that category.

The rest of the teams are relegation fodder who have a massive difference in class and thats the only way they can play. So out of 19, thats atleast 10 teams which dont play "Park the bus" style football and the rest are lower table teams who I am sure Lukaku has scored plenty of goals against.

Funny you mention Van Nisseroy because despite his goals United were pretty average as a team with him, yet United won 3 titles in a row both sides of Ruuds spell at united but with him they had 1 in 5, as soon as Fergie dropped him in the League cup final United became a better team from then on, Van Nisseroy (like Mario Gomez, like Lukaku) have a lot of flaws that will hurt a team regardless of how often they score.

I was a bit harsh comparing him to Bony, I don't doubt Lukaku's ability to score, but will a goal every other game make up for his abysmal technique, non existent movement, pressing and general unawareness of what's going on around him? He will have to be hitting Ronaldo and Messi figures for me to turn a blind eye to all that.

A lot of the bottom half teams still do, which when all said and done makes up over half our point tally, breaking these sides down is a huge issue for us still, Costa and Cesc helped paper the cracks in 14/15 first half, but that aside we have looked clueless vs parked buses since 2010.

5 years, which saw the emergence of chelsea (2 years), a freak season by arsenal which will never be repeated ever.

Its like saying, Barca with cesc - 0 Champions league in 3 years. Barca without cesc - 2 CL before he joined in 3 years (2009/2011) and 1 CL in the 2 years so far (2015). So, it must be cesc's "lack of quality" which affected Barca.

Meanwhile I am discounting the fact that Jose gave RM balls to fight against Barca, Pep left Barca, puyol, xavi got into mid/late 30s. All of these factors cumulated to affect them. Cesc was another one, specially fitting him in and changing from a 4-3-3 to a 3-4-3. Similarly blaming RVN for united winning 1 out 5 from 2001 to 2006 and 3 on the trot after that is well naive to say the least. Jose left chelsea, arsenal were on a downward spiral, as was liverpool. United was an alpha dog in a 2 horse race against chelsea who had internal squabblings and managerial changes all the time. United winning 3 on the trot had nothing to do with RVN leaving.

Do you think Vardy's overall play is brilliant? Towards the end of the season when teams sat deep, he was given as much of a problem as any other striker. Yet, he won the league for Leicester. A goal-scorer, a good goal-scorer can change the things multi-folds for a team. If we had a decent back-up to costa than the current piece of drivel that we have (Remy, Falcao and Pato), it would have made us a better team.

Which team in PL does not have a problem with park defences? Why do we act like its only chelsea? Or only Lukaku which faces problems? Arsenal lost to swansea, drew to sunderland, palace, whu in their last 10 games. Except for whu, each of those teams had played a solid defensive game. Hell even city with aguero had a lot of problems. I remember there was a point in the season where city had lesser number of points than stoke in the last 20 games. Dont forget city had won 5 out 5 of their starting fixtures and yet despite having KUN for 28 of the 38 games, City managed to score 71 goals in 38 games, just 12 more than a woeful chelsea. This problem of being unable to break down deep defences is not localized to chelsea and/or lukaku.

Henry was signed from Juventus having played for Monaco.

Van Nistletoy signed from PSV off the back of winning two league titles.

And Drogba signed from Marseille when they were playing European football.

I appreciate the point you are trying to make but none of those players career paths are like Wilfred Bony signing for City via Swansea and Vitesse.

Us signing Eidur Gudjohnsen might be a slightly better example but we weren't quite title challengers at that point. Frances Jeffers to Arsenal maybe....

If i remember correctly, Henry had a terrible (6months?) stint at Juve. Arsenal were a super power, as were united and chelsea were aiming to be one. The teams that these superstars got transfered from might not be as low as swansea but they sure had a massive difference in class.

But I do get your point. And as you said there are numerous examples of such cases. Even sanchez coming from udinese to barca.

What teams park the bus?

Full on parking the bus? Not sure, deep defending however?

The three teams that are promoted almost certainly will.

Sunderland will under Big Sam, Palace will, Jose probably will atleast at The Bridge, West Brom if Pulis remains defiantly will, Watford likely will, Stoke will at The Bridge, Swansea might.

Then their will be the good defensive teams like Spurs, Saints, City under Guardiola will be improve defense and under Koeman probably Everton.

That's a lot of points we are going to need to win through patience.

United finished 3rd in three of the seasons.

Difference between Cesc and Ruud is Barca league performances weren't really getting affected, in the league they still were getting high 80s points at worse, in fact they broke their point record with Cesc in 12/13. The CL is a lottery, as we know all to well, I don't ever read tooo much into that or any knockout cup.

Van Nisseroy however was affecting United's general play, a lot of attacks broke down at his feet, replacing him with Saha then Tevez turned United into a breathtaking attacking machine that got the title back off us and won a further two more. Similar thing with Mario Gomez, he scored nearly one a game in 11/12, but Bayern replacing him with Mandzukic (who isn't even half a good scorer) improved Bayern tenfold.

And yes I would have liked Lukaku as an alternative to Costa when things weren't going right, problem is, he didn't want that role and isnt better than Costa, and we got a very good deal for him.
