Romelu Lukaku

Well I think he is already a world class footballer, he is the top scorer in the premier league. In a league where every goal matters.

I was pointing out that just because he wasn't world class at the age of 18 doesn't mean anything.

You think Lukaku is world class? You must have very low standards. And every goal matters? So did Lukaku's 2 goals in the 90th minute against 10 man Hull matter when Everton were already 2-0 up?

And I was pointing out the fact that Lukaku didn't even show a glimpse of quality for Chelsea, I wasn't asking for world class performances I just wanted to see a tiny glimpse of class, and he showed nothing, and it's the same now when he plays for Belgium, he drops 2/10 performances regularly for them against good sides.

Not true at all, when Costa wasn't scoring he was still starting games because of what he offers the team with his work rate, always unsettling defenders, effectively pressing from the front, constantly making clever runs to create space, these are all attributes that Conte likes in a striker and attributes that Lukaku does not possess

It could easily be said it's because Conte was trying to play Costa back in form which I don't blame him for that when Chelsea only have one forward. Obviously there's no other options when the manager doesn't trust or rate Batman. It been like playing with 10 men at times over the last few months and Costa's attitude stinks, you can tell in the first 5mins if he is more likely wanting to start a fight or score a goal.

Here are Conte's quotes about Lukaku and Costa, it's pretty clear what Conte wants from his striker, unfortunately for Lukaku he doesn't possess many of the attributes Conte wants in a striker.

"Lukaku is a good guy but for us Diego is very important and, in this part of the season, he will be decisive for us," said the Italian.

"We are talking about two great strikers. But you know that Diego, for me, is the best striker in the world.

"I think it's great to have talent. But I like a lot when you are a warrior during the game and, above all, if players with talent show they work hard during the game."

The first two quotes are a complement to lukaku. The third could be about anything - you got a link where that is a quote about lukaku?

I thought at the time lukaku was just wild. Would run at a man rather than think about beating him. Qualities Diego also is poor at now. I didn't think he was terrible and never thought we should sell him.

I never said the third quote is about Lukaku, it's almost certainly about Costa as he is a warrior type striker who works hard for the team, maybe it was a sly dig at Lukaku as well who knows.

Conte is just trying to big up his one and only forward at the business end of the season. His not exactly going to say his been playing awful since the China rumours and will probably be off in the summer when the premiership and fa cup are still to play for

1 hour ago, pacquiao said:

He actually had 4 starts as he started 1 league game against Blackburn, fact is he had chances to show what he could do in a Chelsea shirt and failed.

and both of Lukaku's goals against Ireland came from Belgium counter attacks where Lukaku was left in space. So no Ireland definitely didn't park the bus.

I was at that game in bordeaux, I'm from Ireland, watch it again and revisit your view. We played a flat 442 with 8 men behind the ball for most of the game.

I think you're missing the point. It's Costa's character, passion and work ethic that Conte likes so much, this is probably why Batshuayi has played so little, its not because he isn't a good player it's because  he lacks these things, same with Sturridge at Liverpool he has Firmino and Origi ahead of him, because he lacks that work rate and ability to press defenders effectively.

When you understand that Conte like Klopp like Pep (who will probably sell Aguero in the summer) don't want a striker just because they can score goals, they want a lot more then that from their striker, you will realise how much of a bad fit Lukaku is in Conte's team.

Yet Martin O'Niel even said Ireland pressed Belgium and after the first goal which was from a counter attack, the game became stretched, but of course you know better than the Ireland manager. :laugh2:

Ireland managed 11 attempts at goal, 46% possession, and Belgium had to make more clearances, tackles and blocks in the game, but Ireland parked the bus right?

And btw saying Ireland parked the bus only supports my argument as Lukaku done nothing in the 1st half when Ireland was defending well (not parking the bus though), it wasn't until they got opened up on a counter attack when Lukaku actually done something, further proves that Lukaku can't do much at all when he hasn't got acres os space.

Mental anyone would describe Lukaku as world class!

i think the term itself gets thrown around too easily these days.

personally, i believe a world class player is someone that could not just play for any team in the world and not look out of place, but is literally one of the top 2 or 3 players in their preferred position.

So i guess if i was to narrow it down, i would say there are probably 3 or 4 world class forwards in the world at the moment...say for arguments sake...ronaldo, lewandowski, suarez and neymar(heck, throw messi in there if you consider him a forward as well). lukaku is not even close to those guys...and you go a tier below to your higuains, aguero's, aubameyangs, costas, sanchez' and cavani's and if im being honest, there's no way he belongs among that group either

aside from morata himself, there are other young players with good scoring records in competitive leagues like mauro icardi and andrea belotti - i dont think lukaku is too much different than them especially from a statistical point of view, but whenever ive seen any of them play, not only do the aforementioned two have better fundamentals than lukaku at this very moment, but i feel like they have a far greater ceiling than lukaku.

like i said in an earlier post, i haven't seen enough improvement in lukakus game to say he can lead the line for a team that intends on winning the champions league like chelsea and i dont believe he can get too much better than he is right now

Oh you can use google? Well done. Again, I was at the game, we were under the kosh for most of it, we set up for a draw and to frustrate. If you chose to hear what Martin said about the pressing, he said we were pressing and defending for most of the game, couldn't keep the ball, and were generally on the back foot for the whole game. Please check your alternative facts before making snide remarks.

Yes pressing and keeping a tight defensive shape is not parking the bus, Ireland tried to press and win the ball so they could counter attack Belgium.

Ireland had 46% possession more than Italy managed against Belgium, and Ireland had 11 attempts at goal in the game, and Belgium had to make nearly double the amount of clearances that ireland had to make, you are confusing a team who was trying to be compact and not give the Belgian playmakers much space and time on the ball, to a team who has 10 men behind the ball and don't even try to attack.

and as I said if you want to call that parking the bus then it only further supports my argument as Lukaku done nothing in the 1st half when there was less space, again showing why he won't make it at Chelsea.

Oh dear, you still upset because I speak the truth about your idol, you have an unhealthy obsession with such a mediocre player, the fact you actually think someone who doesn't rate Lukaku must have some sort of grudge against him as there is no other reason to not rate him is hilarious.

But fact is Lukaku is never going to make it at Chelsea simply not good enough, but you keep living in your dreamland if it makes you happy.

Hi Pacquiao,

Can you please provide some quotes, statistics and data to back up this statement you have made as you have nothing to back it up with. I'll wait. x

I already have :laugh2: we have been through this, your idol isn't very good and isn't a Conte type striker, I know it's hard for you to accept that his goals mean very little, he can score a hattrick tonight against Watford, and another one against Arsenal still won't change the fact he isn't the type of player Conte has any time for.

Hi Pacquiao,

Your argument is invalid as you are yet to provide any direct quotes, statistics or data to prove such an unfounded comment. You have nothing to prove that he won't make it at Chelsea so i would please ask that you either retract your comment or apologise for spreading such slander.

Thanks. x

Except I have :laugh2:

still waiting for you to explain how Lukaku fits into Conte's system. But we both know that isn't going to happen. Run along with the other two Lukaku fanboys @didierforever and @Osgood is Good both of whom like yourself simply can't take Seeing someone not rate your beloved Lukaku. You haven't countered any arguments or made any valid points, so run along now. :good2:

So just to confirm you have no data or quotes to back up the FACT that you stated?

Poor from you, Pacquiao. I thought you were all knowledgable and only posted facts that you were able to actually back up. Oh well, i guess the almighty Pacquiao is mortal like the rest of us. x

Yeah so just ignore what I wrote. :laugh2:

it's funny how triggered you are, just because someone has a different opinion to you, try making some valid points, it will make you look less like a upset fanboy.

I wouldn't have minded taking a punt on lukaku, but after reading these last few threads it would be make the forum unbearable lol.

This thread should be changed to 'lukaku groundhog day'.

All jokes aside, in an ideal world, Costa stays and we bring in greizmann.

The irony :laugh2:

All you do on this thread and most threads is ignore every fact made by others and just repeat 'back that up'. When the same is done to you, you get defensive as you have just proven pmsl.

The fact you use the phrase 'triggered' tells me all i need to know about you. I bet you have a twitter account called @HazardFlicks or something and tweet people saying screaming and rustled.

Show me examples of this. I'll wait.

I understand the point of a forum is to have discussions (even arguments of a generally friendly and respectful nature) but at some point the arguing becomes so circular and pointless that I wonder what the participants are really getting out of it. No one can see the future and anyone can look at something that has happened in the past and formulate whatever they want to from that. I don't know how Lukaku would perform on this team; in fact I am going to go out on a limb and state that no one can (I know that's hard to believe). I eagerly await the possibility of Lukaku either joining Chelsea or not with equal emotion at this point as this thread as sucked whatever feelings I had about this subject from my body.

Can we all just collectively avoid replying to these desperate posts of his? We could go through the tactical minutiae of how Conte would use Lukaku or point out how Cesc is also 'not a Conte kind of player' but he's not going to relent with this rhetoric.
