Mertesacker ruled out for "a few months" with a knee injury.

Wenger getting his excuses ready for another failed title push already.

What's going on with Arsenal's medical and training staff? They seem to have more than their fair share of injuries.

Clubs will be allowed to use a fourth substitute during extra time in the latter stages of this season's FA Cup.

The format, which is subject to approval from the International Football Association Board, was first trialled in the Copa America this summer.

It will be introduced in the FA Cup from the quarter-final stage.

Good rule. You're playing an extra 1/3 of a game, so it makes sense to have an extra sub. Let's hope that if we're in that situation, Conte has learned his lesson about bringing on a "penalty specialist" who does this.

Pretty surprised that Arsenal are again trotting out the 'we can't compete with other teams in spending' line; I really thought they'd spend this Summer. A lot of Gooner fans will be unhappy if they buy only one player closed season.

Wolves set to beat Liverpool to 20 million pound man Talisca.

Their new owners seemingly intent to cosplay Football Manager.

Ridiculous. I thought Derby were going money crazy spending £6m on one player in the form of Bradley Johnson.

To be honest the Goonies fans must be tired of hearing it now.

When they see Liverpool as an example spending 60m on two players already they must wonder how they aren't doing the same.

I see no reason why they couldn't go out and spend £100m this summer, especially given that they spent next to nothing last year.

Their club has perpetuated a myth that they are supposedly handicapped when it comes to financial spending compared to other teams.

Wasn't there talk that Ozil was reluctant to sign a new contract unless some well-established reinforcements were guaranteed to be joining them?

I read the same. Arsenal came so close to mounting a proper challenge last season, and the things that stop them from maintaining a challenge are so clear, why not invest? As Forever Carefree said, fans must be losing patience. Where's the club's ambition?

I don't know if I'd call what they did close to mounting a challenge in all honesty. As soon as they closed the gap on Leicester with that late goal they imploded and were out of the race within weeks.

Man City approach Everton over Stones. £50m apparently.

Must admit, kinda gutted he's not with us.

Could turn out to be a Great, but equally could be a dodged bullet and a massive flop.

Either way, £50M was always way, way too much for someone so unproven.

I think Guardiola believes he can mould Stones as he did Pique. Good on the ball but defensively erratic and poor positioning. He does have a lot of attributes and with the correct management he could turn out world class and I'm afraid Guardiola has a good track record with this sort of thing. Good for English national team though.

I think Stones' future hangs in balance. He needs a good manager soon or he may never realise his potential.

Its entirely up to Stones how well he does now. Last season he looked like he had bought into his own hype and was trying to be the new Beckenbaur, getting caught on the ball far too much, out of position trying to take the ball out, forgetting about the defending thing.

Koeman has a pretty good record with centre backs to be fair.

Defending is, like, soooo anti football
