February 20, 20179 yr It makes me wanna puke looking at the draws of the other 'top teams' (i.e. teams that are not at the top, but are still called that for some reason). We really didn't need the pressure of another United game in what will be a nervous spring run in. Everyone wants us to fail. Now comes the hardest part. EDIT: Yes, I do think that an FA Cup game can have an influence on the Premier League. If United beat us at home that would be demoralising for our players. Edited February 20, 20179 yr by PythonLu

Not all the top teams could avoid each other - at least we got the home draw. We really can't complain after how kindly the Christmas fixtures fell for us.

I am interested to find out if the Semis will actually be brought back to neutral grounds from next season with Tottenham playing there all season - would be amazing if that is the case.

Suspect that the FA will continue to play the semi-finals at Wembley as it brings in more money for them and will help pay for the new Wembley which cost a hell of a lot more than the original budget. As you say, what will happen if Spurs are in the semi-final next season. Playing the semi-final at Wembley doesn't feel right. The first time we played a semi-final at Wembley was against Luton in 1994 and it felt strange being there for a game other than for a final.

Those were the days, Grandstand and World of Sport used to do a full program dedicated to the final from start to finish, always remember the TV cameras being on the team coaches doing player interviews on their journey to the stadium.

February 22, 20179 yr Does anyone know if it will be realistic to get a ticket with virtually no loyalty points (like 10 maybe)?

Cup final day was so big, it always seemed hot and sunny, even supporting Chelsea who had no chance of getting there, you chose a team for the day. The cup final programmes on both channels started about 10am!!!! I remember Brighton in 83 going via helicopter to Wembley as they were sponsored by British Caledonian. A couple of years ago bored at work, I bet a work colleague I could name from 1970 through to 2000 the cup finalists and the score, a bit sad, but I got them all correct. That wasn't so much I was a stato but more the finals meant so much in yester year. No chance could I tell you who won since 2000, apart from when we've won it. Nothing will beat 1997 though,"when wise went up"
February 23, 20179 yr And they'd have all the interviews with the wives and kids too. And song sheets in the tabloids and free cardboard clackers. It was an all day affair definitely! And by teatime you'd seen footage of the winning goal about 30 times! I remember for the Sunderland v Leeds final I was invited to a friend's birthday party. I didn't want to go because I'd miss it but my mum made me go...I was in a hump and at some point in the afternoon we went to the corner shop to get some more lemonade and I was just standing there asking the shop keeper what the score was until I was dragged out by the girlie girls. For the Chelsea FA cup game, we decorated the living room and put out home-made wooden rattles (my brother had been busy in DT I guess) and had numbered seats on the settee (no-one calls it that now do they) and the party sevens were lined up. Still am cross that I wasn't old enough to be taken - my brother was taken to the final and my sister to the replay. My dad drove all the way to Manchester on his scooter without a ticket and blagged his way in.

I have no idea how he got in, whether he actually managed to find someone with a ticket so got in legitimately or not. I'll have to remember to ask my sister next time I see her.
February 23, 20179 yr In the town where I live there used to be two florists. On Cup Final Day, one of them would put a display in its shop window with the colours of one team; and the other would have a display with the colours of the other team. I suspect that florists up and down the country did a similar thing.
