FA Cup Memories

Featured Replies

They went on to win the CWC, great team of players, Mills, Muhren, Thysen, Mariner, Wark, Beatie, Brasil, a few of them even made it onto the big screen in escape to victory.

I do think with the FA Cup nothing will ever match the greatness of that FA Cup win in 1997. It was the first trophy I ever watched us win and is rightly always remembered for that great Di Matteo goal.

Outside of Chelsea I’ll always remember watching that Man U vs Arsenal classic in 1999. That was one of the greatest matches I’ve ever watched. I also remember I think it was on “They think it’s all over” and Frank Skinner took the piss out of the Giggs celebration and he lost his shirt as we was swinging it, then pulling his chest hair off and swinging that :laugh2:

I remember watching the 1970 on my parents' black and white TV. Can still name the team that won it but struggle to name the Chelsea teams that have won it since. Bizarre. The 1997 Final was wonderful. The atmosphere at Wembley that day was brilliant. Robbie's goal was superb. As for non-Chelsea games, Sunderland beating Leeds in 1973. First final I watched on a colour TV: was invited to a neighbour's house. And 1987 when Coventry beat Spuds.

As for games outside the final, Hereford beating Newcastle in 1972.

Was that the one when Bob Stokoe danced across the pitch in a beige safari suit?

It was. Went straight to the goalie, Jim Montgomery to congratulate him on the fine saves he had made.

Definitely the worst was losing to Spurs in 82 although I've never seen a Chelsea crowd cheer more after a goal then or since when Fillery scored. I don't think anyone went for a slash at half time it was continuous singing till they bloody equalised. Best was De Matteo no question about it although it was a little nerve wracking till Eddie Newton scored but after Robbie's goal even the most pessimistic Chelsea fans were quietly confident.

Di Matteo volley is my favourite.

But I also loved Demba Ba’s goal against United!

Yeah that was a great goal, was so disappointing when we went out to City though they were there for the taking.

Another great memory for me is I remember us beating Hull in 2000.

My first final watching all of it was 1978. I thought the following year the Arsenal vs Man U game was great. 3-2 and the game had everything.

97 will always be special for me, to be there and see my first major trophy. Was only two when we won it in 70!

Remember 79 final, arsenal 2 up v utd pretty boring, 10 mins to go I went up park with my Bonnetti gloves on, came back for tea later and heard it ended 3-2 to arsenal after utd came back 2-2 all in last 10 mins, 81 replay spurs v city, Kevin reeves volley, and Ricky villa goal, utd v Brighton 2-2 extra time Gordon Smith 1 on 1 with Gary bailey in last few minutes to win it for Brighton missed it and replay 4-0 to mancs, and finally the mother of all finals 97!!

First final I remember was Sunderland v Leeds 73. Don't know whether this still happens now, but after the game kids would en masse go down the local park for a kick about.

No ticket for Boro in 97 but celebrated on the Kings Rd. The biggest piss up Ive witnessed with Chelsea

Being born in 87, 1994 was my first memory, albeit quite vague. I remember actually going out into the garden at sometime in the second half to play football and not taking a great deal of interest in it all! I remember my uncle being distraught though.

1997 I was a bit older so enjoyed it much more. Being the first thing I'd ever seen Chelsea win, made it special. I think if we manage a win Sat though it will run 97 close for me personally. We really need it this year and I f**king detest United

Fav Final  1970 . You always remember your first. Having rewatched both matches we were probably outplayed in the first game but this team had spirit and would battle for the shirt. Deservedly winning the replay. Probably my                              best moment in football.

Fave Fa Cup Match 1990  Man U 3- 3 Oldham. My home town team reached the Semi Final played at Maine Rd. Great atmosphere, scoring fluctuated,Roger Palmer equalised towards the end of extra time. This match was part of a                                      live double header on BBC with Palace and Liverpool(4-3). A great days football.

Fav Giant Killings         Hereford beating Newcastle, Colchester beating Leeds, Sunderland beating Leeds

Fav Chelsea    v Liverpool 1997

I have to admit watching the 2001 final with a bunch of Arsenal fans was hilarious when Michael Owen scored a brace and won Liverpool the cup. It was sh*t to see either team win but watching it with gutted Gooner fans made it fun.

I remember aswell the following season when they played each other again (might have been the 4th round) and this time Arsenal beat them. Watched that with my Liverpool mate so that was actually kind of funny in the reverse.
