How about because I love this sport and care about it, and I want other generations to enjoy it as much as I used to.

Getting angry at me supposedly misquoting you and then totally misquoting what I said sums you up. You're an absolute embarrassment mate.

Nice to know you're not allowed to take against things unless they have no direct effect on you, hope you have never had a single opinion on politics.

Thanks to the people who have been respectful to me, now jog on Malta Blue you weapon.

Oh a weapon, is that a promotion or a demotion from tit?

I'm not getting angry buddy just trying to voice my opinions but because they dont align with yours I got to "do one"?

This for me is quite fun as you are loosing an argument against yourself all by yourself and i love to witness a good argument even if i have to stir the pot a bit.

"loosing" an argument?

Maybe if you enjoy a bit of debate you should learn how to spell first. No wonder you are known as the village idiot.

Ah and there we go correcting innocent by standers spelling to make yourself feel better...the final sign of someone who is loosing an argument

VAR is good. The implementation is not.

The whole "clear and obvious error" is not being implemented well. One week the ref will go over to a monitor and check a replay 10 times looking for contact before eventually changing their decision, the next week we get that farce with the penalty yesterday where in 5 seconds they decided it wasn't a clear an obvious error awarding a free kick the other way for a stone wall penalty.

The way Offside lines are drawn is hopeless and shows a complete disregard for how margin of error works. It should be like Cricket where the decision has to be past a certain threshold or else it's "ref's decision"

That escalated quickly...

Anyway, as a Chelsea fan I don't think many of us want to get rid of VAR because we were regularly screwed when it didn't exist.

For the benefit of our club we just need it to be correctly enforced, there's always going to be instances where it's down to interpretation, like doing a slide tackle in the box and the ball bounces onto raised arms but as long as things like last night's penalty claim isn't totally incorrectly interpreted then it will be fine.

Well that was fun, if there is two things he/she takes way from this is sometimes people dont always agree with everyone else and to pick his/her battles.

If this was learned the world is already a better place.

This one got so offended by my sh*t stirring @Munkworths went completely unnoticed

Hello,

On May 22, outside PL HQ in Paddington, London, a peaceful protest will be held against the use of VAR in Premier League football. This protest is for all football fans.

VAR has ripped the heart and soul out of the game. It has sacrificed the soul and does not even get decisions correct, there are too many examples of VAR mistakes for me to list on here.

VAR is also currently calling offside decisions which it cannot definitively call due to frame rates and margin of error. We can not know the goal that was disallowed for Chelsea in the FA cup final was definitively offside.

Even if VAR did one day "work", it will never work in a way that allows football supporters to experience the raw emotions we used to at football matches. I am happy to answer any questions any users on here have for me.

I do not support a Premier League team, although I have friends who support Chelsea and my grandad was a Chelsea season ticket holder from Kennington. He would be delighted Chelsea are in the CL final I'm sure.

Mods: Feel free to move or close this thread, I simply wanted to share this with Chelsea supporters, no offence intended to anyone.

They don't need to scrap VAR, that is throwing the baby out with the bathwater.  But they need the evidence to be much more obvious and clear when deciding to cancel out a potential goal.

Right now they are calling offside if a finger or a toe is across the imaginary line at the moment they can most clearly determine to be the moment the ball was played.

Instead if you ask me it should require an entire leg at least.  If you can draw that imaginary line across and you've got most or all of your leg across that line at the moment they can best tell that the ball is played your way than you are offside.  But not if it's an arm or just your nose or your toes.

I wasn’t sh*t stirring, I’m just fulfilling my forum role of pointing out to new people you’re a c**t.

Quick there is another new guy on the introduce yourself thread

But I got there first

VAR could be improved immediately by having the VAR line displayed in real time across the pitch using, say, Blue laser beams. Like at a concert.

We could then fit a sensor device to Werner that activates a small electric shock whenever he inadvertently breaks the VAR line.

Bit like the electric fences farmers use to keep the sheep away.

I'd prefer blue lasers though

I'm afraid it will always be subject to human error.

It will never be perfect, I can tell you as an American we've been using instant replay for American football for a long time now.  And it certainly hasn't made officiating perfect.

But it has made it better.

I would point out that when it first came up the usage of it was pretty clunky and there was a lot of controversy and a lot of people wanted to get rid of it.  But we stuck with it and it's a lot more smooth now and there is a lot less officiating controversies than there was before.

I think with VAR it's probably a similar thing.  They have to figure out how to adapt it to soccer.  It won't ever make things perfect, but I think if they adjust things and time is given to acclimate to the system it will work a lot better than it does now.

But right now it's usage is inconsistent and "clear and obvious errors" have often given way to officials saying "his finger was across the line" or "his big toe was across the line" and canceling out goals.  I think at the very least half your leg if not your entire leg should be offside before they call it.  Calling it too tight IMO ruins the attacking spirit.

Make the officials recognize that frame rates are limited and they need to show beyond a reasonable doubt that the player was offsides in order to cancel out a goal.  Not expect VAR to show beyond a reasonable doubt that the player was onside.   Benefit of the doubt should go to goal scorer.

For whatever reason, it never seems controversial in Europe. Must be the English refs.

It seems the FA and PGMOL are using it this way purposefully. That or they don't understand the rules of football no other explanation really

I have tried to pee on one once. Gives a nice jolt. 😂

VAR needs to go back to the clear and obvious errors part. This nanny cam on offsides is a joke.

If they can do such a beautiful job with the goal line tech, bar that one big error between villa and sheff u last season, they can make this system better.

The idea of VAR for me is great. If it was me I would take human out of the loop and replace refs with some grid with AI 😁. It is still flawed. VAR refs need to put a report after the game for people to see why a decision was made. Just after the game a few lines of report. "21mins Tielemans vs Werner was not called a penalty because... (Mike Dean is a c**t). And so on.

The assumption that just because VAR is sh*t now (which is largely down to idiots not understanding its limitations) means that it will always be sh*t and can never offer any benefit seems pretty dumb to me. I'm confident that in more competent hands that VAR could have a positive impact on the sport. People also have very short memories, absolutely nobody was satisfied with the quality of decision-making before VAR came along, this is why VAR exists in the first place, and we were often f**ked over with huge decisions going against us.

I also find the idea of holding an organised protest against VAR in football pretty ridiculous, so I kind of agree with Malta Blue on this.  Kind of.

Shame the OP doesn't want to post on here any more because he seems like a really lovely bloke.

I have always liked the idea of VAR, but the past few years have shown that it's not improved the game a single bit. The biggest problem is the consistency with the rules of the game. Refs seems to make it up as they go along and this is something that has been a problem in the game long before VAR was bought in. The refs are the problem, but no matter how many years go by, they never improve. Those same refs are in charge of VAR decisions, so what hope has VAR ever got of being a success?

We see a player like Bruno Fernandes literally stamp on an Aston Villa player to win a penalty, the ref gives it, VAR takes a look and still gives it. FA Cup final, Kovacic is sent off for a second booking after being fouled himself, VAR takes a look, doesn't overturn the decision. These are just two examples of the refs being absolutely awful in this country, we could easily find more examples, I am sure every fan in the country can find a time where VAR has got it wrong against their team.

The problem is that I have no faith that we will ever get anybody competent enough for VAR. Throughout all of these mistakes over the past few years, they never seem to get punished for it, it's actually the opposite, they seem to get rewarded for their mistakes. Anthony Taylor is the only ref that has taken charge of 2 F.A cup finals. How can such an appalling referee get such special treatment? The protection the refs get is staggering. We are talking about the biggest sport in the world and it's a sport that probably has the worst officials with no sign of improving.

Is that not what the little electric shocks are for?

Doesn't have to be electric shock. It could be needles. I still thinking this through.
