Can easily rack up 15-20 games in cup competitions, that and training with top players is more useful than a loan to the Championship imo. Only way we should loan him is if it was like the Courtois loan to a top team

Think its a waste of crucial years of development. Needs constant game time.

Step up from MLS is Championship. Can see a lot of suitors for him. Not sure if there are any suitors in the first division of other countries.

I agree, would rather have him playing 46 games a year in Championship on a regular basis than 15 to 20 at best games a year in the FA and EFL cups.

Another thing to keep in mind is that even if he plays in all those cup games, many of those games could be against lower division teams but he is going to have premier league defenders in front of him.  He isn't going to get much from those games if he is barely tested because his defenders dominate lower level competition.

Would much rather have him tested at the Championship level.

We've got Bergstrom, Baxter and Cumming all comfortable on loan in the lower leagues and would assume none of these would make it into a premier league side.

If Slonina is going to make it he should be too good for a loan to the Championship. Should be a top 5 league or stay at Chelsea.

At 18???

Mason Mount was 19 when he went on to an to Derby, came back when he was 20.

Not really sure the relevance of Mount when we're talking about goalkeepers.

If I'm not mistaken Donnarumma was 17 or so when he was first choice at Milan. If Slonina makes a more reliable goalie than Mendy and Kepa, he can be a toddler with a large wingspan for all I care.

Experience is overrated in modern day football, the next generation of stars are starting early. Gavi, Pedri, Bellingham, Moukoko, Camavinga are all kids.

That's easy to say when you are only naming genuine generational talents.

Slonina wasn't even the best GK in the MLS his final season iirc nor was he even the best young GK. He has a raw skill set that isn't close to being fully developed.

Again, I don't believe there will be any suitors for any of the Top 5 leagues but I would be glad to be proven wrong.

highlights of the above match. Massive deflection for their first goal, Hall giving the ball away for their second, shocking defending for the third. Could maybe have stayed on his feet a bit longer for the last one, other two certainly not his fault.

Watched it live last night, and that was my take on the three goals as well.

In terms of the other players, Hutchinson was pretty anonymous. Harvey Vale on the other hand put in some lovely crosses that any striker worth his salt would have been salivating over. Our guy Burstow was nowhere near being on the end of them of course LOL. Some nice skills on display from Leo Castledine as well.

Agreed with the above, shame to see Vale back playing in PL2 after his loan, really thought he'd kick on after winning YPOTY. Hutchinson seemed to start the season well but not heard much from him in the last few months.

I bet the City cameos didn't help. Another reason we shouldn't throw random youngsters in the lions den because they "can't be worse".

Iirc Donnarumma was 16 when he debuted. The guy was still going to school

And Gavi and Pedri play with one of the best DM/DLPs of all time. Camavinga plays in an experienced filled Madrid team.

He isn’t a random youngster though, came into the Arsenal first team along with Saka, Martinelli & Rowe, and only left because he felt his path was blocked by Saka. Coming here was probably the worst move he could have made, same applies to Chukwuemeka. It isn’t the City cameo that is the problem, it is what happens after that cameo. He has never been seen in the first team after that, same applies to Fofana & the 45min cameo. The right approach to developing youth talent is the Brighton or the Klopp approach to Elliott & Bajcetic, the latter who just only turned 18yrs but has racked up over 500mins in the league this season.

Enciso (18yrs) at Brighton, Rico Lewis (18yrs) at City, Cherki (18yrs) at Lyon, Lukeba (19yrs) at Lyon, Scalivin (18yrs) at Atalanta, Balde (19yrs) at Barca, Wirtz (18yrs) at Leverkusen, Guler (17yrs) at Fenerbahce, Gnonto at Leeds, Garnacho at Utd, and  the 2 players we have been linked to Lavia at Southampton, and Ferguson at Brighton are also both 18yrs.
There is a conveyor belt of kids looking to start at top European kids, and if their parent clubs won’t give them the break some other top team would take the chance.

But again considering every player you have mentioned there has come from at least one youth team where a further dozen players that would have fallen by the wayside. I am not saying that there isn't young talent about, and there are some very promising prospects,  but i think it just needs to be taken in context. Just taking our club for example, all of the young players that we are saying need to be given a shout are players that we have brought in. Meanwhile we have had a youth team every year graduating into seniors and not findign their way through.

[Fabrizio Romano] EXCL: Belgian side KAS Eupen closing in on deal to sign Gabriel Slonina on loan from Chelsea, here we go soon Understand agreement on the verge of being reached on one-year loan valid until June 2024. Slonina will play regularly and he’s key part of #CFC future plans.

good move for him if he is first choice

There's not a chance at all he's not first choice. No way we let him go to sit on the bench.

I think he is too good for Eupen to be honest

it will be great for him to learn some German while he's there (Eupen is in the German part of Belgium)
